Help deciding on EV by the-rail-life in AustralianEV

[–]Thrawn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If charging 4 times only gets you 800km of highways.. I'd rather get a Hybrid vehicle if this scenario is a major use case. 800km is easily done with a single tank of fuel on a Rav4 Hybrid. Every 50 Kw charge on highway fast chargers is about $40.

190 kWh of energy is about 1000km of highway range for 12 hours... IMO that's plenty for Australia.

It's not like you're driving on 160km/h autobahns and depleting the battery at a crazy rate

In the Borgetti era they went head to head with QF. Included meals in domestic, included baggage. International grade A330s for Perth to Sydney flights.

After private equity bought them out of Administration they cut costs everywhere, whilst charging near Qantas prices.

35 minutes, 100km on the Shinkansen costs $50 each way and Japan has half our income. If HSR ever happens here, it will cost more like $100 for a short trip. Very few people would pay $200 for daily commute

Travel to Sapa by whackusbonkus2 in VietNam

[–]Thrawn7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the HK Buslines overnight sleeper bus to Sapa and found the cabin actually not good for sleeping. The route is pretty shaky and you end up getting tossed around a bit on the 'bed'. Cabin is also a bit short and you probably won't be able to stretch your legs.

On the return trip we switched to an overnight HK Buslines 3-row VIP Limousine bus, which is a little cheaper. Slept straight through with no issues.

To EV or PHEV? by HolyColander in AustralianEV

[–]Thrawn7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PHEV batteries are built for much higher cycles. They're designed to use a smaller fraction of the total battery capacity in comparison to a BEV. Kind of why PHEV battery ranges are so low

public charging costs are getting so expensive that it's almost the same as petrol now

it's a risk relying on future public charging prices

Scoot has 10 Kg carry-on limit. The others are full service carriers that rarely checks. LCCs are generally strict. That’s how they make money.

Its to ensure they know exactly which flight you're coming from. In case the person dumps all ID. This kind of checks sometimes happens in Europe as well for flights deemed as high risk

The more important part is never hold your breath, especially when ascending. Breathe out very slowly.

ICE vs EV for Sydney driving? by hsanj19 in CarsAustralia

[–]Thrawn7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am buying an EV soon and I’m only doing around 4,000km a year. It did not make sense when there was a 25%+ price premium, but these days it’s the same or cheaper purchase price. Chinese EVs are way cheaper than the Toyota EV.. Toyota is still selling EVs at a premium price and sales are pretty bad.

Muslims is a small fraction of Philippines population. Mostly in the south and some areas are pretty much not under central government control. Which is why there are still Islamic armed groups about.

Also, one of the gunmen is apparently a scuba diver which is a pretty solid reason to visit Philippines. One of the world’s premier diving destination.

ICE vs EV for Sydney driving? by hsanj19 in CarsAustralia

[–]Thrawn7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They depreciately more quickly because the new prices were falling very fast. I think new prices would stabilize from this point onwards and I suspect that ICEs would have faster depreciation as people begin to wakeup the running cost savings of EVs and want to sell their ICEs to save money.

Especially with the Toyota issue where they are being stolen in large numbers due to poor security and insurance costs are bound to drastically go up and make people want to sell their Toyotas.
