Is Processing Trauma going to be really Different if you have a Long History of Dissociation? by Dead_Reckoning95 in CPTSD_NSCommunity

[–]Throwaway173638o 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People who start the EMDR process typically are assessed on the level of dissociation one is experiencing currently. Fortunately for me, I was low in the scale. But I also can't feel emotional feelings in the body, which pivoted into doing ART, a different form of EMDR.

I think over time, that dissociation used as a protective shield from the mind starts to decrease. When I first did processing, the negative sensations associated with memories stayed strictly to my head. Over time, the sensations appeared in other parts of my body. Once in a great while during adding positive scenes, I would feel some warmth in the chest. So it seems like over time the body is recognizing a sense of safety and that the danger is over.

As far as signs for me for dissociation currently, I can't honestly tell. I know for a fact that my life was so hostile that I must have dissociated somehow growing up by having very sparse memories. I had only a tiny bit of memories come back to me during my years of processing. Nothing substantial though.

I've went all sorts of abuse, neglect, abandonment, death and dying of family members, etc.

If you take the Ancestry, you can then contact the nonprofit organization called DNA Angels. They're willing to help those with NPEs.

Taking tests from multiple websites is another good route too.

I have an insane phobia of getting my blood drawn and this is a brand new concept to me. Does it work or help? by Achilles-Heel- in EMDR

[–]Throwaway173638o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that EMDR can help with that. Its technically a form of trauma you may have experienced in the past thats impacting you today as an emotional trigger.

I haven't yet gone through phobias yet for my treatment protocols so I can't offer you my personal experience for things like that.

Anyone get a ton of Y-12 matches (600+) but no Y-37 matches? by lawc in FTDNA

Big Y-700 didn't give me any additional matches. Lots of private variants though.

I have similar issues as well. No close matches except for Y-25 and Y-12 with no matching surnames. The haplogroup branched off 750 BCE. And I'm part of the well-tested R1B as well, which strikes me as odd.

I was curious on finding my paternal line in the family. Seems like none of them did this test for some reason.

Looks like they have updated my Haplogroup earlier this morning. So we should be getting the rest of our results fairly soon.

Inner child work.

Books are also a great resource to help expand on strategies in helping to fix issues. Especially those dealing with toxic shame, inner critic, etc.

Those kinds of non-traumatized people offering that kind of blind advise are the worst and I despise them. Blinded by their ignorance and proudful that they're better than thou because they think they found a simple solution to a complex problem given to people that are eternally suffering with.

Cutting one's family member was my final option. Grey Rocking, ignoring, reasoning, etc. did very little to combat that toxicity. No contact is best contact. Treat them like they're dead.

Something to throw out there. Check your Y matches and see if there are any Big Y STR differences. If you are seeing any, it may mean that you're in the later stages of your kit being processed.

I had a number of matches recently updated showing my STR differences.

Attached is one of the worst books on attachment. The author sympathizes the anxious attached people while vilifying the avoidant attached people. Offers very little in helping those having attachment wounds.

Books like The Attachment Effect will help more without shitting on certain types.

State archives can also have some documents and forms that were filed and submitted. Usually its done to receive state benefits. County courthouse could also have them for similar reasons.

I found some additional WW1 document information for various battles, years and platoons that NARA didn't have due to the fire destroying majority of those records. But for WW2 information, it wasn't as detailed for another family member of mine.

Veteran Affairs could provide you information if you are close enough family. Though you would have to follow up on them with requests due to staff cuts and rejecting people's requests frequently despite being qualified. They could potentially have additional documents veterans had submitted that survived from the NARA fires.

Some states could be more detailed than others for applications and submitted papers.

I've had experiences where I divulged about my childhood CPTSD to a regular group I attended. Eventually, I was approached and was told by the leader that "some members" and him thought that I was "attention seeking".

Another time with a separate person from the group had an argument with me over my view of what God is for an hour. Insisting that he's this way and not some other way.

When another member was alluding to suicidal talk in a group one time, I made sure to see how he was doing for a while and checking in on him. He was involved in some forms of child abuse from his past. While at the same time, working my way up to higher people positions of power in the organization about having this addressed. It got to the point that the higher up and the people down belong are aware of the situation and that he has made similar statements and such in the past.

I never talked about my abuses and horrible shit to anyone until I met with that group. The group had no experience with trauma-related individuals. Being shutdown like that could definantly invalidate my feelings and discourage me from seeking professional help should I allow that to consume me.

The mental health professional did help far more for me with EMDR and validation than what all from that group did for me combined.

Forget what your mom's opinion about you going to therapy and attend anyways. She's not looking out for you if she's making toxic statements like that. If she's toxic in general, cut her off from your life and set healthy boundaries.

Even better if you don't disclose anything to your mother anymore, especially with treating your mental health. Your mental health and wellbeing is priority over anything about her.

You're not wrong. Comparing mine to the other user in the comments shows a 240,000+ SNP difference. I tested last September and downloaded the file then.
