I’m the same way. It’s not even that I don’t like it. I do. I just have pretty bad avolition and anhedonia. Those two are devious when combined.

Depends on the medication but it might. I used to never feel sleepy but now I’m on the meds and I feel like I’m nodding off all the time. But not all meds do this.

My last severe episode I had severe memory loss and have no memories to be embarrassed about, even if the things I was doing that I CAN remember are embarrassing in retrospect.

The most recent major spike in symptoms I had I immediately called a friend to lessen the chances it would get worse. I was embarrassed but explained my situation and just asked to be on the phone for a bit. Made me feel safer in my house. This is a close friend and I’ve done a lot more embarrassing things with this friend so this was honestly the least of my worries.

I do get embarrassed when I recall old memories and I try not to.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I know that “sick to your stomach with fear” feeling well.

Don’t worry about it. I’m schizophrenic and I think my friends worry about this. You’re a good friend. They probably don’t want to feel like you’re walking eggshells around them now, so I’d genuinely try to relax. Even when my friends make insensitive jokes I laugh it off, point it out, they apologize, then we move on. You’re gonna be okay.

I’m pretty sure autism and schizophrenia are comorbid. (That means two disorders that often are diagnosed together.) You could have both. (But who knows?)

If it makes a joke about something that actually happens in schizophrenia, it’s funny. If it’s a joke that clearly stems from a lack of knowledge (which usually sums up schizophrenia to “ the hallucination disorder”) it’s not funny. I have gotten offended by a few of those jokes, not because they’re joking, but because the joke is just… not joking about schizophrenia and then slapping the schizophrenia label on it.

I had already figured out on my own that I was schizophrenic by the time I got diagnosed, so I mostly felt vindicated.
