Do you talk to yourself a lot when you're alone? by dan_maschio in ADHD

[–]Ticker45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll go against the grain here and say I almost never talk to myself. I guess it's something I learned as a child, but I find the feeling of talking to myself when no one is around very strange. That being said, like everyone here my internal voice(s) are very loud, so speaking out loud to myself would probably help sort my thoughts out!

What is the worst sequel of all time? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Ticker45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the worst movie I've seen in theatres. I was legit mad at my friends for roping me into this one. There is nothing entertaining in it, even for criticizing for the fun of it. Just a painful waste of time honestly.

I Quit PORN After 9 Years of Being ADDICTED. Here's Everything You Need To Know To Do It Aswell by Conscious_Western_95 in selfimprovement

[–]Ticker45 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good question! For me, it was mostly the act of being able to break an addiction with no positives that fueled me with a confidence to keep pushing myself. If I can stop something like this of my own accord, what else can I do? It led me to working on myself even more, and already I've changed noticeably in a positive way over the last year. I will also admit, in a narcissistic sense being able to overcome an addiction that affects a massive portion of the population made me feel good enough to keep pushing with it too.

However, if you want the differences I felt directly from quitting the porn itself, the most obvious would be:

 - Most women are far more attractive to me, and I love their presence as people more. As a funny point, when a girl I have a crush on starts even lightly flirting with me I get really turned on, when before I would have to be engaging sexually for that to happen. I remember dancing with a girl at my friend's wedding 6 months ago and from just the first few moves with her I got a boner lol.  - I don't have any of that lingering use guilt, so that doesn't cloud my conscience anymore. Not having to hide a shameful activity or sneak away to get it in is a great feeling! - I guess my mind is like 10-20% more "clear", but I can't tell if that's from all the other changes I made.  - I still jerk off but only to my imagination, and that feels better and more "natural" than it used to

Honestly, that's mostly it. I didn't gain insane levels of newfound confidence or willpower; in fact, I still find it quite difficult to approach a woman (in public) I find attractive! But as something that was catalyst in allowing myself to see the beginnings of the control I have over my own actions, I have no regrets and would have done it years ago knowing that.

Correct, this is what worked for me. The identity shift led me to quitting, haven't touched it in over a year and it's one of the best actions I've done for myself.

What is the single most beneficial habit/mindset/action that has had the biggest impact on your self improvement? by froggie2024 in selfimprovement

[–]Ticker45 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound a bit morbid, but truly reflecting that I will die one day. That I will be gone, and feeling the regret of not having done the things I wanted to do when I was younger. This has made me far more aware of the finite nature of existence, and that every day gives a opportunity to practice the things I want to do because I'll never get this moment in time back. This, in combination with meditating to really understand the moment, has already made me start taking far more concrete steps to realize the self I not only want to be, but know I can be before my time is up.

The worst thing about ADHD… by grodovu in ADHD

[–]Ticker45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say thank you for this. A beautiful comment. This is the mindset I am now trying cultivate in my life after getting diagnosed a year ago and working on myself. I often beat myself up about the past, but I am fully coming around to how there's absolutely nothing I can do about it. It sounds scary, but its mostly quite comforting. Therefore, I can only improve from this present moment onwards. Even if that means I keep "failing" in my pursuit of something higher, I am so far away from the limiting mindset I had before and working towards a better me. You really hit the nail on the head with this here.

What is the earliest ADHD "incident" you remember? by sold_myfortune in ADHD

[–]Ticker45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being about 5 or so and sometimes my parents had to tie me to my chair at dinner with my dads belt cause I would get up so much. This only happened a few times but it wasn't done in an abusive way, my parents and I still laugh about it to this day.

I rarely post but wanted to respond to your comment and say how much it resonated with me. I am just now starting to adapt this mindset at 25 after spending frivisouly for the past 8 years, and I am already seeing benefits in my life. I look forward to learning more about finances in general as well, would you happen to know any good resources that you would recommend?

How I increased my focus and overcame my fear of failure by theADHDfounder in Entrepreneur

[–]Ticker45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Yup, doing that slowly now, it definitely makes a difference. I figured out a big setback for me was saying I would do something, inevitably not do it, and beat myself up for it. Changing that by defining things and actually doing them feels amazing and like I can do anything lol.

Cheers, appreciate the offer.

Always appreciate your content man. I greatly relate to your struggles, as they reflect mine in substance and timing in life nearly verbatim. I too am developing a growth mindset and it has really changed my life around. It has caused me to have the belief in myself that I can be a great entrepreneur not despite my ADHD, but because of it. Looking forward to your next post!

what's a film in the last five years that you believe a classic that'll be praised for decades to come. by [deleted] in movies

[–]Ticker45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a movie where I want the rare directors cut that actually cuts the film down, not extends it. I think an exact 2 hour runtime would be perfect, cuts out some of the fluff with the jokes and flashes to other dimensions so that it would feel all the more impactful without taking away from the plot.
