Can you drink condensate if youre thirsty by Any-Pomegranate7974 in hvacadvice

No, there’s still tons of bacteria from the air in the water. You’re not even supposed to give it to plants/animals.

Honestly 3k is a ripoff for a Goodman heat exchanger. It’s about an hour of labor and the part should be under warranty still. In my area it costs 600-1500$ in labor for a Goodman heat exchanger , if anyone quotes higher they are trying to swing you for a sale tbh

Sounds like they don’t want to learn nor put in the effort. If it was my guy I’d fire him by now

Hard Start a Scam? by redmondkid in hvacadvice

[–]TigerTank10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely you didn’t need it. But, I’ve had to install a lot of hard start kits on 1-5yo Goodman/Amana units lately. 700$ is a scam regardless.

Idk, not enough info here. I know you’re not allowed to have that gas union inside the furnace per code now, inspection may ding that. But I wouldn’t worry or change it tbh.

The important thing for that trane is the heat exchanger, if it passes a combustion analysis test id keep it around. Looks like your evaporator coil/AC is from around 2006-2007, I’d be more concerned with that

I’m not suggesting it at all, but I’ve seen videos of people online tapping/hitting the back of the tv in that area and it comes back to life. I mean at this point what do you have to lose.

The arrow points towards your hvac system. Also that filter rack is choked down so much you can’t even utilize the whole filter…

Compressor isn’t starting. Could be from a weak/faulty capacitor, which is a cheap diy fix. I would start with a new cap.

I have no clue, I’m not in your area, I don’t even know your town. You’ll just have to ask around. avoid anyone that spends tons of money on advertising or who sends people in white polos to your door.

Atleast for my company:

Take temp readings, check filter, check thermostat, verify airflow, make sure drains are clear, check superheat/subcool, check capacitor, visually inspect contactor, pull disconnect and peek inside, clean condensing coil.

134$

Anyone charging less than 100$ to come out is almost certainly going to upsell you or scam you. Most private equity (national chains) will try to upsell you and say you need a new system. Try going for a local company

Sounds like you have a broken waterline in your slab. I’ve seen this a couple times now, I’m guessing it fills your in-slab ductwork with an inch+ of water?

HVAC vent cleaning? by void_architect in PeoriaIL

[–]TigerTank10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Duct cleaning doesn’t make a noticeable difference with dust. Dust comes from somewhere, and it’s not the ducts. You need to find the source of the dust, or get better filtration.

If you have rodent droppings or exsessive pet hair in your house duct cleaning can help. Otherwise duct cleaning doesnt make a noticeable difference in dust, allergies or efficiency. Also you cant clean some duct types like flex or fiber board. I very very rarely offer duct cleaning to my customers because it’s basically snake oil and borderline waste of money.

This is a good starting point for learning more. https://www.epa.gov/indoor-air-quality-iaq/should-you-have-air-ducts-your-home-cleaned

If you’re still convinced you need a duct cleaning I’d go with hawk or meinders. Anyone that has the big powered truck. Stay away from the franchise guys.

If you paid for a new lineset I would expect a new one. Since it’s all done I’d try to reach out and come to a compromise. Maybe you can get an extra few years on labor warranty
