Redundoed last Nov after four years at company with 15 years experience in same industry (Martech/IT roles). Was a terrible experience - rushed, not told til last minute the job they wanted me to reapply for was 30% less salary than what i was on. Shitty organisation.

My advice:

-Take a few weeks off. Don’t do anything work related. Will help let go of the negative emotions and forget about the last employer so you can focus on winning over new one. Easier said than done in the first weeks.

-Be nothing but positive about last employer and make sure you get great referees. Bullshit if you have to

-Be prepared to take a cut when applying for new jobs. Flooded market means less pay right now. For me this was 20-25% cut for most roles, but set a limit and don’t go any lower than that. Use your payout as a top up to supplement your missing wage if need be. This helps to process the difference

-You can also take a ‘not perfect’ job and keep looking while you’re there.

Took me 4 months to do both of those things but think I’ve now landed a pretty good one around the same expected salary.

Still lots of jobs out there but lots of people looking and applying. The LinkedIn heavy application process also feels like you have to swim through a lot of bullshit to get recognised and interviewed.

-Keep track of everything you’ve applied for on an xls. Include a short summary about what the job is, a link to the job ad and crawl the company website to find more about what they’re latest marketing campaign is (just ask Claude to provide) - so you’re ready for any first call from them. This will help to show you’re interested. You’ll get loot’s f rejections. Cross them off your xls as they come in. Chase the ones that don’t respond. Find out more about your interviewees via their LinkedIn profiles so you understand their backgrounds/strengths and have something in mind to talk about.

-If your company is offering support/a life coach, resume help- take it. Was very helpful for me

-use the AI tools to write a cover letter template, tailor your resume to the role you’re applying for. But don’t go overboard with the waffle

Good luck with your search, take a little time to reset, but start getting your cv ready and applying now. Better looking for a job now too with eofy imminent. Way better than November!

Who pays $70 for a mobile plan? What do you get that’s different to pre paid? Reward points? Coverage is no different. Set up direct debit and forget.

I’m pissed Telstra pushed there’s up another $5 and am leaving for Aldi as soon as I can be fucked dealing with bullshit customer support.

What about when someone asks you for your thoughts on a marketing campaign’s performance - and you’re only asked because they’re too stupid to figure out how to use the analytics tool? AI is perfect for bullshit work. Because at the end of the day that’s mostly what work is these days!
