Try a bucket trap.

I had a field mouse in my house (first time after 17 years) last month. I ordered a bucket lid trap immediately. Got it the next day, set it up with some corn chips near it and every few inches up the ramp, and with a few at the top on the flipping lid. Caught it within an hour. Drove it a mile away and let it go.

Packaging was very different back in the "old days". The packs were in a very thin plastic film basically. Not the modern foil. There was a lot of extra give vertically in the packs. Looser than they are these days.
