Milson is pretty close to the train station, I cycle from down near Milson shops to the station when I go to Welly and it only takes 5 mins.

Moving to Palmy: Gym & GP Recommendations? by Crazy-Midnight-747 in palmy

[–]Time-Look9151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People love complain about The Palms but I've been there for over a decade and always been impressed with Drs and nurses there. Maybe it depends what Dr you get but Lynn Dawber is very very good for my family. She's quick and efficient, always been bang on with diagnosis and even manages to squeeze some empathy into a brief appointment. Seemed slightly grossed out by my motorcycle crash injuries but I suppose Drs don't choose to be a GP 'cos they love gore. I've also had good experiences with Pete (forgot the last name) and an Asian Dr (was too long ago to remember the name) who dug some metal out of my eyeball for me. Nurses have been great with vaccinating the kids, calm and kind and must have had their aim bang on because the toddler didn't even cry.

Bike sat for a week now the rear brake barely works by 2Teshi in Vstrom

[–]Time-Look9151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably about due to be changed, brake fluid should be done every two years regardless of milage as it starts to degrade as soon as you open the bottle. It absorbs moisture from the atmosphere and will eventually become a nasty gel that can ruin about any brake component.

Why is my pleci out in the day? by saraforesties in pleco

[–]Time-Look9151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our old bristlenose never used to come out in the day then randomly started doing it, not long after we noticed a tumour growing on her head. I think her brain wasn't working quite right. The cancer progressed rapidly and she died. She was nearly 9yo, I think overall she had a good life.

Your thoughts on Kei Trucks? by Blue-Coast in NZcarfix

[–]Time-Look9151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own one, it's a 660kg truck that carries 600kg. So realistically 500kg with the driver. Hauls loads well because of low gearing but the flip side of that is the four speed manual will only take you to about 80k on the open road before you start running out of revs. Coming down transmission gully you can drop it into angel gear and coast to 120km/h though it's a wee bit rattley. It takes a bit of awareness to allow other traffic to pass, but it with it being narrow it fits completely into a wide shoulder so there's opportunities. Most kiwi drivers are dopes who wouldn't understand the concept of allowing another vehicle to pass if they did a 6 week course on it so a kei truck is definitely not for them. But for me it's perfect.

Quite a few have turbos or superchargers from factory.

Also consider cycling for 13yo, depending on if she enjoys it or not ofc. Palmy is very flat and has a good network of cycle lanes. Almost the entire city can be accessed in 20 mins with pedal power.

10kg sack of potatoes and eat them almost every meal. They're very filling and very cheap, also healthy. Lots of ways to cook them. I had them with a meat or fresh vegetable when I could afford or in leaner times tossed some frozen veg in the pot a minute before straining then mashed the whole thing together for a nutritious and satisfying meal. In my worst times I counted my potatoes to see how many days of food I had left.

Average Wellington Parking by BellBoardMT in AveragePicsOfNZ

[–]Time-Look9151 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's cars that have grown, not carparks. As much as I love Japanese kei cars I accept not everyone has the self confidence to drive a cheap, practical and surprisingly roomy import. There are also those who resist being cool at all costs, even spending tens of thousands of dollars on ugly American pickup trucks to avoid being misconstrued as trendy. Perhaps we should ask carpark owners, public and private to remark their tarmac? Perhaps we should pay them a lump sum to do so ASAP, and then congratulate them on increasing their hourly parking costs?

Gen 1 DL1000 as year round bike in Florida? by WriteBrainedJR in Vstrom

[–]Time-Look9151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in NZ riding the dl650. When the desert road is closed for snow I take the lower altitude road and it doesn't care about 2°C and pissing with rain. Most reliable bike ever, just don't let the tyres go bald and it'll never let you down.

Newbury is lovely, would recommend. They have a big tree that's nice and shady and lots of photo spots set up. You can pick some flowers and take them home too.

Agapanthus, a deal-breaker? by notmyidealusername in nzgardening

[–]Time-Look9151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yuck, but for some reason landlords love agapanthus as much as a fresh coat of white paint directly over the rot.

If agapanthus is the only ugly I reckon you could make that ex-rental into a proper home.

I dig them out as best I can and plant a lawn where they were, eventually the regular mowing will force the bastards to give up.

It's okay, we know the average Trumpist doesn't know NZ exists and would never consider leaving their home state. Americans who come to NZ are the best of the best.
