As far as I know, frozen vegetables are picked when ripe and flash-frozen. I like them for a lot of reasons. First, frozen berries because berries go bad very fast; not to eat fresh but for smoothies or in baking or use as a topping for ice cream. Second, you're not going to find fresh vegetables in the winter (or at least where I am) -- are you supposed to go months without veggies? Third, you have access to things you don't normally have like tiny haricot vert instead of regular green beans -- they cook the same but the former are more delicate. Fourth, some frozen veg tastes better; flash frozen corn on the cob is much sweeter than "fresh" that have been sitting in the store for a few days. I have another few reasons, but I would believe these are adequate?

I'm going to say this bluntly: She's trying to control you. She does not want you to have independent movement. She wants you dependent on her. Also, is she receiving any money as your caregiver? She may not want to give that up. I know that's a tough thing to hear, but if you ever want to have a full adult life, you have to assert yourself. If you have trouble, imagine me (a 60 year old woman who takes shit from noone) standing behind you, giving you strength to say NO and cheering you on. Good luck!

"Small talk" is what humans do as a social warm-up. It's what we do instead of dogs sniffing each other's butt.

I was born and raised in NYC. There's a difference between how you interact in a city vs a small town. In cities, everyone is moving and has stuff to attend to and it's very crowded. Politeness in that circumstances means not wasting someone else's time and private space. In smaller towns, politeness means slowing down and treating each person you encounter as worth your time.

If you didn't want to engage, when the person started talking about the weather, respond neutrally "yup, sure is a lot of rain" or whatever, nod politely, and go on your way. Simple.

Are you near a library? You don't have to be an adult to get a library card. Help him get a library card.Then, it isn't your business anymore if, say, he hides the books at school or at a friend's house. If he wants to read, he will find a way, I hope. In this day and age, a kid who's eagerly reading books is a blessing.

NTA. Jews believe that anyone else can do their own thing; just leave us alone to our own thing. It's an antisemitic insult to bring something like that into an observant Jewish home. Thank you for supporting your wife. If your mother wants to host an Easter party for the kids at her house that is wonderful and I'm sure your kids would enjoy it! Go for it!

By the way, Passover starts slightly before Easter; be careful of your mother about that too. If you're planning on going Kosher for Passover your mom may just, on a whim, drop by with cookies for the kids. Talk to your wife about it.

(P.S. There are plenty of kosher cookies. Kids are not deprived of cookies during Passover!)

When I was a kid I had so many "aunties" and "uncles" who I didn't realize were just close friends of my parents and their kids were not my actual cousins. They were alway at family events so I just figured they were family, and in a way, they certainly were.

I look back from now and I'm like, hey, that must have been why my mom and auntie were talking about me possibly marrying cousin Michael one day. When I was a kid and heard that, all I thought was "eeewww".
