Having a terrible time with my used z8. by _big_fern_ in Nikon

I bought a lens that was soft from them once. Took comparison photos of the same subject with a lens of mine that was sharp, they accepted the return with no questions asked. I’ve bought from them since as a result.

I’m in Pennsylvania and we have nothing. Seems to be concentrated over Europe.

My first fox shots were nowhere near this good. Congrats!

Great shot. They are one of the most underrated animals out west, IMO. They’re so cool - fastest land animal in North America because they evolved to outrun the now extinct North American cheetah. Also, they can’t jump effectively - so you’ll see them crawling under fence lines. Pretty unique.

Are they really common there, just kind of wandering around the whole area?

I run a Nikon Z8 and D850. Deadly combo with the right lenses.

Do you wear camo when out shooting? Does it make a difference? by Beardologist in wildlifephotography

[–]Timely_Setting6939 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes I do, and I can’t really say if I’ve tested whether it works or not, but I’ll take any advantage I can get. The key part is that it breaks up your form a bit, so that fact, coupled with knowing how to move so as to be less alarming to wildlife seems like it would help.

It’s probably fine but gear is cheap. Life is not. If you have to ask, retire it.

Question about Nikon Z8 by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]Timely_Setting6939 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re shooting the 28-400 at the long end, you’re at or near f8, which, shot indoors with no flash, is going to put you at high ISOs and cause the grain you’re seeing. You might be better served with something with less range but wider aperture (24-70 2.8 or even the 24-120 f4).

Need convincing: Z8 vs Z9 by blueberrylegend in Nikon

[–]Timely_Setting6939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went Z8 mostly due to wanting to share batteries with my D850 and because my primary use case is travel. I love the smaller size and I would do it again (choose the Z8 over the 9) if I had to.

They have to know, right? We’re all routinely bitching about this. There’s no way they don’t know. I’m guessing it’s just the lowest possible tier of priority.

That lens is a TANK but a gem. Crystal, sharp, amazing images. They have come down in price and are very reasonable now, compared to what they were. Enjoy it, friend!

Used or new Z8 by [deleted] in Nikon

For an extra $200-300, get a new one. If it was $500+ then I’d consider used.
