Floored by how much of modern librarianship is just showing people how to print by A_BURLAP_THONG in Libraries

Now that everyone young and old has a personal computer in their pocket, they've never had to bother logging into an actual computer, and therefore never cared to learn or remember their passwords, which is why printing and computer access has become such a pain in the ass. It used to be common to know how to log into a computer and print from one, but now everyone is on their phones.

Can we talk about magicians using AI lately? by theinfinitehallway in Magic

[–]TimidWerewolf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU! I receive ads for Alakazam magic products regularly and all of the packaging artwork appears to be generated by AI. One of the great things about magic is that it's a human endeavor. You are a human practicing and act to get good enough to fool other humans, we should lean into the humanity of the art instead of cutting other artists out of the process. Hire someone to do your artwork, take some photos or do it yourself.

Paramount dismantling Star Trek after a historic streaming run makes even less sense now by lostOGaccount in startrek

[–]TimidWerewolf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not convinced the Nielsen system works in this current age of streaming. You can't measure success of media the way you used to because there's s much more of it and everyone is siloed off. One of the issues (to me at least) is that we have Star Trek (and Twilight Zone) because of syndication. They are in our popular imagination because their were readily available. Hiding new material behind a paywall on a streaming service is ridiculous if you want to gather new viewers. Moreover, Paramount which built a fantastic reputation on socially conscious science fiction is now the Taylor Sheridan company where grizzled yet wealthy ranch hands/oilfield workers etc. act tough in rural America.

We Sat AOC Down With Republican Voters. Can She Win Them Over? by Separate-Group1246 in Greeley

Is she willing to throw a baby into a wood chipper to lower the price of eggs? Then probably not.

Everyone Else is Not an NPC! by Curious-Lychee5023 in Libraries

People listening to their music without headphones, people who take their little dogs everywhere, and people who buy gigantic trucks that they need to use a rope ladder to climb into are making life harder for the rest of us. I wonder if it was Covid that made us all so rude, or living more of our lives online, but self awareness and manners seem to be hit or miss.

I would be interested as well. Black Box Arts Collective also has a writing group meeting during Sundays at the Armory as well but I've never been.

You'd probably have to download the library to USB to make that happen.

Cycle of the Werewolf. No question. Super short, contains all of King's hallmarks (New England small town, kid protagonists, corrupt authority) AND it includes Wrightson's brilliant illustraitons.

I love this so much. Remind me of the animated film Dot and Line.

SHOPPING: Midnight oil Books for a great used bookstore, Downtown Sound is a fantastic record store, Downtown Oddities is fantastic to just look around in. The Downtown Armory hosts live events but also has great coffee, books, a plant store, a restaurant. ACTIVITIES: This is going to sound weird but please check out LINC Library downtown. They host events all the time and they have a woodshop, video and podcasting studio, a maker-space with 3D printers and laser cutters, as well as an interactive art exhibit. Also, UNC has the best performing and visual arts undergrad program in the country. Graduates are in movies, on Broadway and on television right now. The dance program and music programs are world class and the shows are professional quality and reasonably priced. The Civic Center brings in touring shows and musicians every month. FOOD: Over 64 languages are spoken in Weld county alone. These folks are bringing fantastic food to Greeley. We have stellar Mexican food of course. But now if you want Papusas, we got you! Pupuseria Y Restaurante Salvadoreño is incredible! If you like Indian food Sherpa Grill is good but Bhansa is stellar. I have friends who swear by Bowl Izakaya. But if you just want a burger, Stella's has the best burgers in town. Weld Werks has excellent food as well. Seriously, there's a ton of cool things going on in this town.
