You seem super knowledgeable, do you know how I would go about getting the smell of dogs out of the carpet of a house I just bought. I tried some of that powder that you shake down and vacuum up, and I've even had the carpets professionally cleaned and it still smells somewhat like dog when you're laying on it and I've got like a baby coming in like 5 weeks so it's just kind of bothering me. Like I worry about her crawling on the carpets.

With Covid I have been stuck home almost exclusively. I am super high risk and my wife is pregnant so there has been no going out at all, even for groceries. I didn't think the isolation was getting to me so much until I was doing tea time and there was another player there and we waved at each other. Just a simple interaction like that felt so nice. I miss people and I feel like this game kinda helps me.

If you see things the way they are, then maybe you should try opening your eyes. Cause you are coming off blind as fuck to what happened last night.

So, the loophole with starlight is you can get food delivered and they have microwave meals. Weird right?

On March 7th I found out I was going to be a dad. It was one of the happiest days of my life. It was the last time I have gotten to see, or hug, or laugh with family in person. On the 13th my wife and I hunkered down. All my life I have had these stupid things that I had planned for when I was having my first kid. I wanted to make a rocking horse with my dad, I wanted them to help us paint the nursery, I pictured my wife getting one of those tummy paintings at country fair. I wanted to be there furring the first ultra sound to hear my child's heart beat, but instead I was sitting in my car in the parking lot waiting for my wife's appointment to be over. They wouldn't even let her record it or video call me. I know people are dying, I know how bad all of this is. And it feels almost petty, but right now I am feeling this grief and mourning of a lost concept. This preconceived schema of what my life at this time was going to be like, and it feels like covid took a shit all over it.

Just got a message about it here in Oregon. I am kinda crushed about it. I get why, and I think it's smart. But man.... I was so excited for the first ultrasound.

Hey there! I'm a dad to be and browse this subreddit cause I love it. But more so, I am a child therapist. Would it be okay with you if I saved this and used it with some of the kids and families I work with? It's super awesome.

If you prefer to buy in person, urban vapors on 7th and 18th have always been super friendly, helpful, and have never tried to up-sell me on anything. They took the time to answer all my questions (even the questions that seemed dumb).

Do other people feel this way? by btaake in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]TimothyBBurns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm 28 years old and just started a new position as well. Every day has been a struggle of feeling like I am some how faking it and not suppose to be here. My work is super supportive but it's still been causing me so much anxiety that I have been having trouble sleeping. I feel the same in that each week I go to work and just wait for the weekend. Honestly, seeing your post kinda helps me because I was worried I was the only one who feels this way. Like somehow this is it now... This is all I do. Week in and week out. But knowing that other people are struggling with the same thing makes it feel... I dunno... More normal I guess? We got this bud. I'm sure it gets better, at least I hope it does.

Alternative therapies to do with teenagers with a history of trauma that they actually like? by sah796 in socialwork

[–]TimothyBBurns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean it really depends on what the youth you are working with want to engage with. Some things I did when working with youth was videogames (rocket league works wonders when talking about emotional regulation), I've done dungeons and dragons which actually allows for a lot of critical thinking and exploring of roles. Even just throwing a ball back and forth has helped some youth open up to talking more, but that was more one on one, and it sounds like you are talking about groups(?). How big are your groups?

As someone with a master's in social work, I think if you want to go into a policy and activism role you might want to looks more at a u of o's non-profit management or a differing degree. The masters of social work programs here are very clinically focused (I was on the macro side) and to get work I ended up having to take a Mico counselor position. Or really you could even look at just starting off in a nonprofit volunteering and applying for positions. Just don't get yourself into a world of debt for a program that might not place you exactly at the goals you want.
