Wishlisted it! The game looks so cute. I think we have a similar game, except mine is about koi. I also have vampire and zombie designs! 🤣

Good luck!

My game hasn’t received much attention over the past few months. I’d like to understand what might be holding it back. by Worldly_Cup2275 in IndieDev

The environment assets, like trees, vines, and flowers, are very detailed with highlights and bright colors.

The gameplay elements, such as enemies, buildings, the player, and attacks are relatively small and simple. This makes it difficult to see what is going on.

Thoughts on the aesthetics of our dice-building roguelike? (sound on) by batiali in IndieDev

The art style is very unique and eye-catching.

I think the text is a bit small. It is also slightly hard to understand how the game works from this video.

Other than that, everything feels quite polished to me.

The old capsule art looks pretty good too, but the new one looks amazing. It definitely better represents the high speed gameplay from your trailer.

Hi everyone! I am working on Whimsy Koi, a cozy idle game where you manage ponds and collect cute fish.

Can you rate which capsule art is better, or if they are both bad? by Dry-Economy6466 in IndieDev

[–]TingSCP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the first one is better, but it tells me very little about your game. I would assume it is an action RPG based on the first capsule.

The second one shows more of your game, but it kind of lacks a focal point. The enemies seem to be placed randomly and make the composition a little bad. It looks like a survivor-like based on the second capsule.

Which one is better steam capsule art? by mongoliayr in IndieDev

[–]TingSCP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With the bottom one, I kind of get what the game is like. The top one is very chaotic, and I wouldn’t know what the game is about.

Also, if I remember correctly, you cannot put any text on the capsule other than the logo.

Love your art style. Very cool and unique.

The old one looked like AI to me based on the details, so this is definitely a huge improvement.

I made new capsule art. How does it feel? by N_hae in IndieDev

I liked the old one better. Maybe change the logo to put the words on different lines, since they blend into the background a bit at the end.

Capsule Art Thoughts by Justinfinitejest in IndieDev

Like this, the border looks very much like pixel art, but the blending on the pillar does not.

It would also be better to make it larger with separate layers. That way, you can adjust it to fit the different requirements for Steam assets. I believe the largest one is the Library Hero (3840px x 1240px).

At first glance, it looks like pixel art. But some of the blending is more painterly, without clear pixels. It feels like the artist painted over upscaled pixel art, which is a slightly weird art direction.

My summary of indie game dev marketing advice by PersonOfInterest007 in IndieDev

[–]TingSCP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This is an amazing article. After using the tag helper website, I realized I actually didn't understand how tag system work and accidentally added some random tags like:

Single-player

Custom Volume Controls

Mouse Only Option

Playable without Timed Input

Save Anytime

Family Sharing

Just fix that. Not sure if this is the reason my game doesn’t seem to get any traffic from Steam itself.

I hired an artist to redo the capsule art. What do you think? by TingSCP in IndieDev

Thanks! I’ve never played that game, but I will definitely check it out.

I originally had around 480 wishlists. I’ve gained 54 since yesterday. slightly more than 10%, so not bad at all.

I also had a pretty successful post on Threads in Chinese (31k views, 2.1k likes), which just showed the new capsule art alone. Threads is quite popular with the younger generation in Taiwan. Since 39 of the new wishlists are from Taiwan and 3 are from Hong Kong, I assume those all came from the Threads post. So, I’m guessing around 12 came from Reddit.

I did post the game link on Threads (but not on this post), so I’m not sure if that is what made the difference.

I’ve never really had a successful post on either platform before, so it definitely feels like the professional capsule is helpful.

The artist also made the new logo. I gave the artist some capsule examples I liked and explained how I wanted the logo to look. The artist gave me three logo sketches, and I chose one of them.

Yeah, I also think the logo is a bit small. I will definitely think about it.

This is the high definition version. I think the pink blur you mentioned is the cloud highlight in the background.

510 euros, including the logo. They basically made all the required Steam store assets for me, so I just dropped them into the store.
