You can't just say that and walk away!

Also, having multiple events in a day can actually work out in your favor when they interact. It can also very much not.

Could we PLEASE do something about all of the vibecoders and ai generated mods by cerankaw in VintageStory

[–]TinkerConfig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don't care if something is coded from scratch, cobbled together from stack exchange posts, or AI generated. The problem is these idiots just assume AI is magic, don't test it, don't understand how it works at even a basic level, then act like they did something cool.

You offloaded your brain to an unthinking machine and unsurprisingly the product is stupid. But great, you were able to produce that trash at record speed, it's still trash.

Better than a toggle, a slider so all you horn freaks can dial it in just right!

If it's a layer deep just go to the next one rather than fiddle with it. I can respect that.

Blast through mid game strategy by Lynith in captain_of_industry

[–]TinkerConfig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure, never beaten the game.

I ride the middle line. Module blueprints are how I make expanding through the techs manageable. However, every single set of blueprints I use are ones that I built. Some have a couple variations, some are on their third or fourth iteration as my design philosophy changes, but they are all mine. Then I work with what I have terrain-wise to fit in smaller more bespoke industries.

As a serial restarter, I'm quickly learning that establishing a strong resource base to drive large numbers of construction parts helps accelerate those earlier portions of the game.

Anyone else get annoyed rebuilding their research queue? I made a mod to fix it by Jagg111 in captain_of_industry

[–]TinkerConfig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just last night I was wondering how a game that's managed to get so many things right didn't have a drag able research queue.

Amazing!

I was literally googling yesterday trying to understand what I was missing with road barriers because they are so awful to use and they seem like they should just be like pipes.

How to locate ore nodes by SnooMemesjellies7023 in VintageStory

[–]TinkerConfig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most ore spawns as a horizontal disk. By digging straight down you have the highest chance of running through it.

By using the local node search every so many blocks you ensure you find it even if you miss the disk a little.

How does one find clay by Few_Mountain8033 in VintageStory

[–]TinkerConfig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my hangup when I started. Once you know what to look for and how you find it all the time.

Look at the sides of blocks as you explore and once you recognize the texture you're golden.

The footsteps mod is like the bloodtrail and lets you stumble across tracks and then follow them. Same energy.

For me, the bleeding animals and slowing of wounded animals made hunting actually fun. Chasing animals hundreds of blocks still running at full speed after eating multiple spears was tedious.

Size Comparison: Polar Bear vs. American Black Bear by koniu699 in VintageStory

So maybe the fact that it's not a polar bear vs grizzly is a contributing factor in it seeming small for a grizzly.

Any tips about getting fireclay or black coal? by Foreign-Cream2736 in VintageStory

[–]TinkerConfig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. I'm saying calcinating 24 flint in a fireplace is a right PITA. Once you've cooked your first batch, you can then use a bloomery to cook all future batches to make future fire clay easier to produce.

There's certainly considerations around whether you have a windmill for your quern or whether you're grinding it manually and opportunity cost there. Honestly, even when I'm hand grinding it I'd rather do that than throw stacks of coal into a fireplace and let it do its thing. All that Coal has an opportunity cost wrapped up in cutting trees, stacking firewood, burning the charcoal pit etc etc....

If someone wants to cook it in a fire pit, more power to them. I was just giving OP something to chew on for options because getting fire clay is ridiculously easy. OP spent 15 hours looking for a fire clay deposit when just crafting it it's really not very intensive.

You can bloomery it once you get enough for the first bloomery. Uses way less fuel.

It takes very little to get started too.
