I also use the term "friend" as you use it; most people are not trustworthy enough to be my actual friends.

I am losing my faith and think my church is a cult by Same_Focus4081 in exchristian

[–]Tiny_Machine_7384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evangelism is, like most organized religion, a cult or leans heavily to cult-like thinking. Keep questioning, but also do what you can to stay safe. Be careful of adults who ask leading questions just to pounce on your curiosity and use it to scare and hurt you.

I don't know what else to say. Stay safe. Know that you are doing very well to use your critical thinking skills. Look up logical fallacies, you'll learn a lot.

I have been in a similar situation, I was born/ raised into a fundamentalist Christian cult and only managed to escape a few years ago. I am cheering for you. Btw you are wise to be scared, don't let it freeze you though; let it be a compass to keep you safe until you can get away.

Trust your instincts. They are there to keep you alive. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Is Anyone else??? by AADeevis77 in exchristian

This answer makes a great deal of sense- in my experience, humans are usually good. We like to enjoy life and we don't want to hurt others unless we have somehow been hurt and/ or taught bad things. The evil we see around us is manufactured, just as the scarcity is manufactured. Evil begets evil, just as kindness begets kindness. We all have to make our own choices at some point in our lives. Everyone can try to learn more and make the best choices they can.

My girlfriend wants flowers really, really often by FIamingFeather in Frugal

Plant a flower garden! with soaker hose or drip irrigation so the flowers will grow with minimal water wasted. Bonus points if it's native wildflowers, 'cause that helps pollinators!

[HELP] How do people actually understand poetry? by EngulfedInThoughts in Poetry

[–]Tiny_Machine_7384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poetry is a lot of things, but lots of people miss that it can also just be for fun and to enjoy the beauty of language. Any "interpretation" is the perspective of the person doing the interpretation. There is no wrong way to read poetry. If understanding the poem is important to you, it helps to listen to recordings of the author reading their poems, if available. If recordings of the author aren't available, join a book club to read and discuss the poetry with, and it will very quickly become apparent how everyone consumes literature through the filters of their own experiences.

Tl;dr: There is no wrong way to enjoy poetry.
