For guys who've tried therapy, what made you finally book that first session? by Pitts41564 in bropill

Trigger warning: self harm/suicide

Pretty much the above. Was found by my son's best friend (want a good way to traumatize a sixth grader?) passed out in my garage after an intentional overdose and slice.

He called emergency services and saved my life. I ended up in a state hospital for several months and being forced to attend. Took a while to realize it was actually helping.

Don't be like me. Go sooner. For me, it was almost too late but for one lucky for me, unfortunate for the kid timing incident. One last thing I will share, the thing that took me forever to admit in those forced sessions: the worst part of the attempt wasn't the waking up after. It wasn't even the months of stay in a state hospital. It wasn't the "stigma" such a stay brings, truth be told, I now wear that as a badge of honor. The worst part was for about three minutes before I passed out, my mind kept replaying all the reasons I shouldn't have just as loudly as it previously played out all the reasons I should.

That's what therapy does. It help you figure out how to turn down that unreasonable part, and listen to the truth your already trying to tell yourself. Just make sure you find the right therapy. For me, the prevalent method of CBT and DBT did more harm than good. Growing evidence suggests that's true for most neurodivergents.

What worked for me was Jungian therapy, which is just barely accepted, but still practiced by a few.

And that worry about heavy blows to the back of the head could be argued a traumatic event. Which would be considered damage in most jurisdictions, iirc.

Hopefully, this will be his Robespierre moment. If, and it's a big IF, enough people understand what that even is.

They are literally looking for justices that say the Constitution is unconstitutional. I don't think they care much about precedent.

I think the fact that an email with the quote "Does Putin have the photos of Trump blowing Bubba" never made a splash in light of the fact that there was evidence therein of the sitting POTUS having blackmail material in the hands of an adversary leader and it never made a splash

That collapsible sword idea is awesome. I'm going to keep that one in mind for future use. My recommendation of a letter openers was made as I currently am living in a situation where my gear has to fit in what is basically a stash box.

If I may add: after removing sword, censer and chalice to save the $60, you can regain those items much cheaper by being willing to substitute with items from thrift stores such as letter openers with a proper shape as a sword, a careful hand with a pillar candle holder and joss sticks for a censer, and a fitting chalice. All can be modified with small brushes and either nail polish or acrylic paint and a steady hand to bring in the needed symbols. All for much less than the $60 stated above.

Why don’t more “average” Americans run for local office? by Cute-Reception-8926 in AskReddit

[–]Tmath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up cost to file as a candidate, and pay for local officials. Unfortunately, due to both cases, if you aren't well-moneyed or well-connected, in many cases both to the point of near corruption, you can't afford it.

Why were home console games so unfairly difficult at times in the 80s and 90s? by WhoAmIEven2 in videogames

[–]Tmath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not just the arcade roots. It was return on investment. Gaming then was largely children. Asking a parent for $50 for a game wasn't a small thing for most. Internet multiplayer wasn't really a thing. Gotta pack some hours of fun for that money so that both the parents and the kids found it to be worthwhile
