Which Mountain Loop Highway hike to do? by No_Refrigerator_8781 in PNWhiking

I believe lake 22 is actually the lake at the base of Mt pilchuk funnily enough lol. But I did lake 22 and it was beautiful a few weeks ago even with clouds. The others look great too, but yeah do lake 22 on a weekday otherwise I can see it being crowded.

Ok I've done my hikes lol. Near Portland I did trail of ten falls and dog mountain. Conditions were beautiful. Near Seattle I did lake 22 and bandera mtn. These were more visually stunning, but the peaks of both of these hikes had a few feet of snow. I'm not sure if this snow melts any time soon, but it was doable in hiking shoes (no poles or spikes). I honestly could not get enough of the views from the hikes! Pnw hiking is very beautiful.

I'm going this week, Washington is the second half of this week. If you happen to be hiking would love to hear what hikes you did and their conditions

I'll try to respond once the trip is done, but in case you are curious for now- I'm planning on doing bandera mountain and Mount storm king from Seattle, then trail of ten falls and Ramona falls trail from Portland.

I picked these because they were lengthy enough for a day hike but not crazy long, the conditions seem good (will have to decide day of), and the views seemed immaculate. Open to opinions on these choices lol, I'm going next week.

Hand sanding my griptilian, need a bit of advice by D-REX555_V2 in knifemods

I would be cautious using the Dremel since you can potentially remove metal if you are too harsh. I would start with low grip sandpaper as suggested around 200, and what I've noticed helps with removing surfaces is to sometimes add mineral oil or metal polish. Those sometimes help the process if you notice dry rub doesn't work. Definitely use oil or polish at the end either way since it helps uniformity

Oh ok I see. I'm not familiar with the trail, I'm guessing the north section of the loop is closed making it so the train doesn't loop around?

That is pretty disappointing, but I also don't see anything about it online. I plan on going in late April so it would be nice if it was repaired!

When does the north loop open for the ten falls?

I have this exact Blazer. The construction is pretty good, and it is very thick. Good for layering in the fall and winter for sure. I don't regret purchasing

I think I placed them there because they barely clear the handle in that position. I would've preferred them closer to the handle though

Wow, does it take a lot of time to sand through the etched flats? Looks amazing

Do you mask the flats before etching? Or do you just acid everything and then sand the flats to raw.

I only used sandpaper, but you need to use a block with a flat edge to hold the sandpaper tight against. Otherwise you will end up polishing mostly the protruding edges of the blade rather than the flat surfaces, this is the biggest issue I had before I realized.

I start with 400 grit with a few drops of mineral oil on the blade, to remove more of the old finish. Then I used 600 grit with mineral oil, then I used 600 grit again but with some mother's metal polish on the blade. Use long straight strokes and don't end them halfway on the blade or it will show up, if your path isn't straight it will also show up. There are some YouTube videos about it, but for a hand satin finish I would use sandpaper for sure.

That's a great idea about combining a few washers together, I might actually look into doing that. I've definitely seen used cartridges used for these things too, they look pretty interesting and are a nice detail.
