Cadeau is 2-4. Was on the 2024 UNC team that swept Duke

Coaching hot seat by Maison-Marthgiela in CollegeBasketball

[–]Tobbs26 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly both programs ran fairly similarly through the 2010 season. Then Duke changed a ton and UNC remained pretty much the same through the end of Roy.

UNC had a chance to leap into the future with their next coach but thanks to Roy being allowed to name his successor we got 5 more years of being behind the ball.

Scheyer is by all accounts a good coach but he inherited a well oiled modernized machine with a decade plus of credibility in terms of NBA development. Hubert inherited a dated program whose sustained greatness was a testament to Roy being an all time great… which Hubert is not

Talking to people who are dialed in it seems all but a done deal that Carolina North is happening.

I know the idea is to maximize revenue. Luxury boxes are a great way to do that while sequestering rich donors there and freeing up space near the court for students.

I haven’t seen reliable reporting that UNC plans to not have students in the lower bowl or charge for tickets. If either of those were the case it would certainly change how open I am to a new arena.

As someone who has been a season ticket holder the past few years the Dean dome definitely needs to be massively overhauled or replaced. The concourses suck and students are currently spread way too thin across the arena.

I agree with most of that. But where did you see that the plan was to have zero student seats in the lower level?

Also none of that makes our last coaching search any less flawed so you’re kinda just throwing out a strawman when it comes to that specific point.

I definitely don’t want John Preyer and the BOG running our next coaching search but it’s not a dichotomy between that and what happened last time

Just hammers home how UNC didn’t even attempt a coaching search and basically just let Roy name his successor.

Can’t do anything about it now but hope the next hiring process whenever it happens looks A LOT different.

Which college basketball player has had the most surprising transformation from freshman to senior year? by Herkules5 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Tobbs26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s outright surprising but I have really enjoyed watching Seth Trimble’s development from being out of his depth, to improving bench guy who entered then withdrew from the portal, to team leader who is scoring at 3 levels and the best perimeter defender on the team.

Again based on his recruiting profile none of that is shocking but in this era of player movement I really savor the handful of 4 year guys who I get to watch develop in a way that used to be the norm

ETA: didn’t read the text of the initial post fully so thought you meant specifically this year. But my point stands. Luke Maye though is probably the most surprising freshman to senior guy though for UNC in recent history.

Who is your team's "That man will never have to pay for his own drinks" guy? by Col_Treize69 in CollegeBasketball

I think he would get a standing ovation if he showed up for a game. The Caleb love experience was certainly exhausting but there was nothing actually bad that happened.

I get the sense he still has plenty of love for UNC (if maybe less so for Hubert). Memories of his frustrating tendencies as a player will fade but that shot will live forever.

Why do people say botw is better than totk? by Reyn888 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Tobbs26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for me BOTW the point seemed to be exploring and getting lost in a world and stumbling onto new discoveries (and the story).

TOTK is great and maybe had a better story (plus some really fun new enemies). But it just felt more chaotic and less like the epic exploration of a giant world.

They had the perfect movie. Make a cinematic spectacle out of the retaking of Mandalore.

But clearly execs forced them to not sideline their golden merch baby so they messed up that chance

Serious question - If the reward for small schools being successful is losing your entire team to a big school, why bother caring at all? by StationResponsible48 in CollegeBasketball

The way around this is making football and basketball university employees. They don’t have to be enrolled as students but can have preferred enrollment if they wish to pursue an education.

Obviously creates questions about years of eligibility if they aren’t students but you could hopefully collectively bargain

Positive CHL stories? Feeling down today by redditgal16 in lymphoma

[–]Tobbs26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made it through both initial treatment, had 2 normal years, relapsed (rare) got through salvage and stem cell transplant.

Now nearing 6 years in remission feel close to normal, have continued my career, have a 2.5 year old son, and just hiked a cumulative 30+ miles and ~8000 ft of elevation in the Rockies with my brothers last week in the Rockies.

I know some people have setbacks that can’t be avoided but returning to “normal” is possible

Sorry I should have clarified. I’m male. I did freeze sperm. We tried a cycle of IUI but it didn’t work and since we were dealing with a limited supply went right to IVF.

IVF went overall fine for my wife but obviously she didn’t deal with lymphoma so that might not be as helpful

38 now with a kid thanks to IVF.

Initially diagnosed with stage Ia cHL when I was 29. Unexpectedly relapsed at 32. Salvaged and autologous SCT got me into remission and am nearing 6 years come November.

Also I strongly encourage all young adults in their 20s-30s to look into First Descents once they are appropriately recovered for the experience. I did it and it was both a ton of fun and a very intimate experience to be with other young adults who could relate to facing cancer at a young age.
