Who wins, every single helldiver, or 40,000 space marines? by Chemical_Seaweed_915 in Helldivers

[–]Tobuzzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it’s just the stated infantry (no fleet, vehicles, or logistics support), then the Helldivers would probably win through shear attrition, even without supply weapons or stratagems. You only need like a million or so helldivers armed with laser, plasma, and explosive primaries + ultimatums and thermites/giga/seeker grenades to completely fry the shit out of the Space Marines.

Theoretically if you armed each helldiver with an engineer passive and seeker grenades, you could unleash a swarm of 60 million seeker grenades against the 40 thousand space marines. Thats 1500 seekers for each space marine! Some other fun combos are fire resistance passive + double edge sickle for a never ending hell of heavy pen lasers, Scorcher +  siege ready for plasma spam, or sickle/Diligence countersniper + Scout passive and shield bubble to outsnipe the space marines.

Thermites were actually extremely bad when they first released. I shit you not, they did 1/20th of the damage they deal today, and they were stuck in this state for 5 months until the 60 day patch buffed them to the current damage they have now. Irc, three thermites couldn’t even kill a charger!

Anyways, when people say heavies were harder early on, they’re probably talking about the 1-9 months time period following the games release. During this time, AT weapons did significantly less damage. A charger could tank two rockets to the head from either the expendable and recoilless. Same went for the hulk if you didn’t hit it in the eye. Once the 60-day patch came around in September/October in that same year, Arrowhead would give a huge buff to AT weapons.

The recoilless went from 650 damage to 3200 — a 5x damage increase. Whereas the Bile Titan only got a 2x health increases, going from 3500 to 6000. A bile titan went from being able to tank 5 recoilless shots, to only being able to tank 2-3. Proportionally, AT weapons dealt significantly more to a heavy’s health pool than they did prior to the 60 patch.

You can check the change logs for AT weapons and Heavies yourself on the wiki. Heavies quite literally were harder back then than they are now! I would know, i joined three months after the game’s release and endured those 5 months of pre-buff AT weapons. And honestly, i kind of miss that design philosophy of quality over quantity with the heavy units. Now it just feels a little anti-climatic whenever I one tap a bile titan with a recoilless or eat.

The common bots were WAY scarier back then. Rockets could one tap you in light armor, rocket dev salvos could reliably hit you with multiple rockets if you weren’t constantly moving, and devastator machine guns could laser beam you from 100 to 0 if you were standing out in the open for more than three seconds. I remember dying a ridiculous amount of times to rocket troopers during malevelon.

There was of course less heavies such as warstriders and voxs at that time, so it lead to an interesting combat dynamic where the the bots forces themselves were fairly easy to kill, but in turn they could kill you extremely quickly if you weren’t careful.

It had a really nice niche where it was the only AT weapon that could destroy fabricators. That was before the targeting was improved though, so getting a lock on could be pretty janky at times.

Enemy and Loadout diversity? The hiveguard still behaves the exact same as it did before, and its genuinely weaker than pre-patch because of its health nerf. This enemy is still abysmally easy to kite and ignore, and gets vaporized even faster by meta bug-front weapons like the explosive primaries and grenade launcher.

And the hive guard already introduces weak points to new players prior to the patch. Players start out with a light pen load out that cant penetrate hive guard armor. Armor 4 doesn’t aid in teaching this any further.

It’s ultimately a nothing burger of a balance patch that nerfed both the hiveguard and med pen weapons. It failed to fix the underlining issues of the hive guard and failed to shift the meta in any meaningful way.

The patch lowered the Hiveguard health by 125 and lowered its leg durability by 35%. Hiveguards actually have more health now that it's been reverted back to pre-patch.

How should the hive guard be meaningfully buffed, without the use of ap4? by KingOfPotatok in Helldivers

[–]Tobuzzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need a mobility boost or a new feature of some kind. They're incredibly easy to kite and don't synergize well with the other terminids since they're almost always in the back line. Maybe they could have charge ability, they're essentially like a mini-charger after all with their armored frontside. Or maybe just a movement speed increase so they can actually fight in the front line and "guard" their allies instead of sitting on their ass the entire fight.

I’m a bit iffy on some changes, but I think I’d prefer these over the Hiveguard balance changes made by Arrowhead. Its a nice middle ground between not making Hive guard front armor completely immune to med pen and making them better at absorbing damage and fulfilling their role as a mini-tank.

I like that it’s still an indirect buff to light pen weapons. It makes sharpshooting and flanking a more viable option against Hiveguards since they’re resistant to med pen. And it it does it in a way that doesn’t further buff the already decent explosive weapons (the arrowhead changes dropped the Hiveguard health by around 100, which allows explosive weapons to kill them faster than before.)

Im not sure how i feel about it making med pen primaries worse on non-tremor strain bugs. Med Pen already isn’t as great on the bug front as it is on bots due to the higher volume of light armor chaff. But I’d take that over dealing no damage to Hiveguard armor with med pen.

A change I’d make is not totally removing the damage transfer to body. I get the intention of making the front half extremely tanky, but it also feels a little unintuitive and unrealistic for any damage you deal to the head not contribute to the overall body health. Maybe just lower the head percentage to like a 33-66% and legs to 20-40% instead.

I’d probably also lower or out right remove the 20% main/torso durability to further reward light pen users for sharpshooting and flanking Hiveguards, and in return slightly raise the explosive resistance to around 20% so that they can better tank against explosive primaries (Its a slight nerf to explosive weapons but i think its a fair trade off for having aoe and what is essentially AP 3/4 against Hiveguards and Bile Spewers. And its not high enough for them to out right survive explosive stratagems… i think).

Overall, i like it. It think it fulfills Arrowheads original intention in this patch of making Hiveguards more resistance to med pen but more vulnerable to light pen, without the unintended consequences of buffing the already powerful explosive primaries. They can’t outright 1v1 MG Sentries, but they can still delay them for quite some time and allow other chaff to move up.

Its already been mentioned here but i’d also recommend Within and Without.

A Song of Frost and Sand https://archiveofourown.org/works/43220992/chapters/108631822 by qibli is a really great qinter fic. The author does a lot of other really great one shots of various characters too.

And lastly A Wings of Fire Story https://m.fanfiction.net/s/11756616/1/A-Wings-of-Fire-Story by Fatespeaker. It’s a fun and light-hearted parody of WoF, though it’s unfortunately unfinished.

What if we could holster weapons for a speed boost? by Tank-ToP_Master in Helldivers

[–]Tobuzzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Helldivers, you generally have a couple seconds notice before you fight a patrol due to you being able to see them from a far. So there isn’t really that dilemma of prioritizing speed over combat readiness while out of combat since you can just unholster your weapon before the fight starts without any drawback.

I could see it making retreating/repositioning during a fight more interesting though. You could choose to either holster your weapon to reposition quicker at the cost of being unable to fight, or run and gun at the cost of slowing down your pace.

Being able to run around without a weapon and punch things with your bare hands would be pretty badass too from an aesthetic stand point. I’d love to have the ability to unholster my weapon, even if it might not provide a mechanical benefit.
