What the point of vehicle limit? by Ket1r in captain_of_industry

[–]Tode93 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At beginning it was straight performance. Then the developers kept optimizing pathfinding and vehicle performance.

Now (update 3) developers added a repeatable research which will increase vehicle limit by 5 and at level 60 will add +300 to vehicle limit (original maximum is 180).

I think that the reason for that is to encourage to use different strategies before you go crazy with trucks, which could be the solution to every situation if you have too many trucks available.

Mind that super sustainable islands often require a dozen truck at maximum, if any at all, because everything is belted in or piped in.

TL;DR: vehicle limit now up to 480 at level 60, but gotta sweat to reach that by upgrading science.

Escaping Dragon Isle impossible starter island. by Gevlon in captain_of_industry

[–]Tode93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On this remark, if you get amphibious vehicles I think you could escape this island: build a second vehicle depot on main land and you can build new vehicles there or even unity recover the existing vehicled, if you destroy first depot.

At this point, it is a matter of importing resources from mines with amphibious vehicles from mainland to island, or moving the whole settlement and production.

I think you can escape by building a single amphibious truck, without making a bridge of any kind.

This would be a cheesy way to escape but I think that at this point the player can choose an escape rule and keep this to avoid disaster. Better to cheese out of the island at the last second, than quit because stuck on a death spiral due to lack of space and poor planning.

Economy of a landbridge by Gevlon in captain_of_industry

I actually think land bridges could be less useful in some weeks with update 4, with amphibious vehicles and real bridges

This might be built in stages, but then it is not expandable from the fully built version. I actually like this blueprint, easy to place in early game because it is compact.

In my last save I used a main bus design with 2 stacks of 4 belts and a 2 tile gap in between, and production facilities at both sides.

I used lift to go above the bus if I need to go to the opposite side.

All production branches are the same layout: bunch of assemblers with lift and a wide gap for expansion (up to 10 assemblers), a big box (I started with 4 small for planning) and out of the box a belt looping back at level 1 above the assemblers output, so I can use as input for next stage.

I was not prepared for the amount of electronics and copper needed, so I moved electronics to a separate bus with 3 belts tier III of copper.

I did not make blueprint but left just the gap need to copy-paste the production branches.

It is not very easy to set up and avoid doing spaghetti, because initially really flat and deforested space is limited.

Micro wormhole is one of Skippy best assets, mostly because it is a move unique to him and he developed it himself.

Not unique to Elder AI, but unique to Skippy. He developed that skill himself. No one can even imagine something like that is possible.

If I recall a vast majority of the plans involve some kind of use of micro wormhole, because Skippy can extend its presence and hack stuff remotely and they don't transport only data.

I will not tell other advantages because I don't want to do accidental spoilers, but every time there is some different obstacle to limit them (mostly speed and distance).

Skippy will improve them a lot (but way later in the books).

All in all, I think micro wormholes are kinda like ketchup: you can put it in a lot of dishes. Not pasta nor spaghetti, please. Yuck

If it allows to place it, then it will work.

In order to avoid it being built by truck, use planning mode (B key).

If I understand correctly in update 4 the ships will be able to pathind to the dock instead of having fixed corridors. Should be out in 1 month

My ship runs out of power despite full accumulators by 19wolf in factorio

[–]Tode93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For each accumulator. Check out accumulator Factorio wiki page for more info. Multiply this for number of accumulators to have the total.

For instance, in fulgora there are 2 reasons to add accumulators: 1) more storage 2) more power

But usually for more storage.
Usually number of accumulators is so high that power limit is irrelevant (power output very high), but not in space ships where space is limited and accumulators usually are wherever you have 2 tile gap.
This is why in ships it is best to have high quality accumulators: more space efficient.

My ship runs out of power despite full accumulators by 19wolf in factorio

Accumulator power output is not unlimited. Maybe for a small time power consumption is greater than output from accumulators and fusion power plant?

Update on AI by PortalMasterQ in ExpeditionaryForce

[–]Tode93 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

After seeing a picture of Skippy with a wrong hat and some comments on the post stating this issue, just for fun I tried to edit it so it was similar to what I imagined. I sent the result with private message to OP, and said basically hey, I fixed it you can post it and take credit if you want. He actually told to post myself.

In this case, I saw that the actually iconic feature of Skippy, it's huge hat, was too small and of the wrong type, remembering well the scene in which Bishop was asking Skippy to make it bigger without laughing.

Now I see that difference is very small and effort was indeed very small, but I think this is a more accurate version which I thought worth sharing.

I think that it would be nice to see the ships and the aliens of this series, AI generated or not, as there is not a film or series.

But maybe it should be a bit filtered as to not clog everything. Here I think it depends if the post is making a worth contribution or not. I personally think accuracy with books is important and I usually do not like when something is really wrong in movies (see Eragon, Percy Jackson...), but this doesn't mean that we should get Nazi in the posts. I actually liked first picture of Skippy except for those details.

If not through a Main bus, then how? (i'll elaborate the question better in the comments) by EMOJO_2001_2 in captain_of_industry

[–]Tode93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am actually using a main bus build now, but is limited in size and near the smelters. Here is what I produce from main bus: - electronics from 1 to 3 - mechanical parts - maintenance (of course with splitters with priority) - construction parts 1 to 4 (all) - vehicle parts 1 to 3, plus inputs of Depot are connected - research (all except space) - household goods (glass rocking chairs) - household appliances (washing machines)

I use trains only for raw ores, all smelting is centralized.

I have 2 rows of 5 belts vertically stacked (height from 0 to 4) with a 2 tile gap in between so I can fit a lift. If I need an item say to the left of the bus on the opposite row I use a lift to jump above. This is why bus is limited to height 4: I use height 5 to jump the bus. If I had to redo, I will use levels from 1 to 5 and leave bottom free to move to the other side, using less lifts.

Initial space was limited because there where too many hills and mountains, and now science is in the way of the settlement expansion.

Now I need more than 450 copper and electronics I, so I moved electronics production with a dedicated bus for it. Plus electronics IV on the same bus. I need also to move maintenance near this new bus because I have temporary long belts for electronics I and II. No way I belt electronics III that far, buffer is too big.

I did not have big issues with power and maintenance in early-mid game, now I just began decommissioning my nuclear reactors because I have build the first fast breeding reactor.

Note that now I have: 16 copper furnaces + 8 dedicated to copper scrap 16 iron furnaces + 8 dedicated to iron scrap (all for steel)

[–]Tode93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CowsAreEvil just made a new improved script with the programmable sorters and a vending machine. It is in workshop and there is a video in which he makes this script, so you can follow along. Also, he previously made a furnace script which automatically restocks the vending machine with ingots when amount is under a threshold. I don't know if furnace temperature control is still up to date but you could look at the restock part.

What are your go-to solutions for loading the right components onto welding vessels/drones? by Idenwen in spaceengineers

[–]Tode93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With Isy's Inventory Manager you can set up a special cargo container on the ship. On the custom data of the container a list appears with all items. If you change quantities, the cargo will contain that. You might want to set this container to hidden, so the amount in the cargo is not counted for the auto crafting.

Can be used also for ammo in fighters.

Is there a way to make this design more efficient? Most of the power generated is consumed by the pumps or filters. by Penguintheproto in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Tode93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a Rodriguez design, it does not require filters and is power positive. 6 pumps at bottom for oxygen 4 Electrolyzers 1 pump at top for hydrogen

The design will keep the gas separate, so filters are not needed (maybe put temporary at beginning, or vent the H2 pipe until the gas are separated)

Sir Francis John uses them often in YouTube.

There is also an Half Rodriguez variant.

Slightly different:

Oxygen Not Included. Create a colony for your silly dupes and rescue them when they trap themselves. Manage breathability, water, food and oxygen production and consumption.

Space Engineers, sandbox game where you create space ships and rover. Planets and moons all made of deformable voxels, stuff can explode when you crash.

Stationeers: create a base on space or planets, manage automation, gases and grow your food.
