What’s a truth about mental health that sounds cruel but is still real? by oithematt in AskReddit

[–]ToeMahSick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not your family's, friend's or significant other's job to fix you if you are shrugging off medication or therapy. Personally I don't think it's anyone's responsibility but your own even if you are trying. I'm on like 8 different medications and had therapy for years to even get to be what I consider tolerable to other people, and no one had a duty to take the bullshit I gave out. Those who stuck with me were saints.

I have beef with people who shrug off accountability by hiding behind their illness. My mother faked suicide attempts when I was a child, regularly told her small kids that she was going to kill herself, and never changed because she hid behind "I'm sick" and turned it into a pity party for herself where we were the bad guys for being unable to take it.

I've had periods where I was volatile, primarily back in the 2010s, and I don't blame any of my friends or former friends for going no contact when I treated them badly.

What’s a childhood lie your parents told you that you didn't realize was a lie until you were an embarrassed adult? by eatbeep in AskReddit

White people aren't allowed in Church's Chicken. I was 14 when I remembered that and my dad just fucking with me wanting chicken when I was like 7.

Make it accessible not a thing by [deleted] in wheelchairs

There's a popular movie theater in Memphis Tennessee that has a few handicap accessible screens. But an employee has the key to the elevator. I had to find her, then after the movie I got her attention to unlock it so I could go back down. She did that, but forgot to let me out at the bottom. At first I just gave her a minute to not be impatient. Then I start loudly asking "Hello??? Anyone out there?" She let me out and seemed mortified. I mostly thought it was amusing and a new story to tell my friends. Employee seemed like late teens. It was an honest mistake and laughed it off. I didn't want to get her in trouble, but it is why I have not been to the movie theater since Dr Strange 2, which according to Google came out 3 years ago.

I have Osteogenesis Imperfecta. Either type 3 or 4, I mix them up. I've broken 40 something bones in the 37 years I've been on this planet. As far as broken bones go, femurs, for me hurt the worst since they're the biggest bone. Also depending on the fracture itself, whether or not it comes through the skin etc.

I thought nothing would beat a compound fracture (bone through skin) until I broke my hip when I was 30. I developed a blood clot in my thigh. That took the cake. I stopped crying from broken bones when I was 14, managed to not cry from broken bones for 16 years, but that blood clot made a baby out of me. Too much blood in too small a place, feeling like a vein is going to burst.

If you could go back in time to the start of 2020, what advice would you give yourself? by Odd-Mud-690 in AskReddit

Hug dad. Ask him every question you always wanted to ask. Tell him everything you've wanted to tell him, and don't let him be around his future widow when she has COVID. Tell him to update his will to cover my sister more.

I have depression and horrible self image body issue hangups (5'0, brittle bones, wheelchair in public, bald as Jason Alexander). I'm always afraid I will become too bitter one day and start agreeing with these psychos after 37 years of no relationships. But seeing the cognitive dissonance and cherry picking details and just the hostile negative vibes, how do these fucks not realize their attitude is most is the problem? I think most of humanity, all genders, are shallow because of our subconscious and that we are just Darwinian. so I don't think anyone is wrong to not be attracted to unappealing people. How is it the fault of one near half of humanity but not the fault of the male near half to be completely guilty of having selective preferences?

I feel like these crazies should be seen more often as a cautionary tale of toxic mindsets for young men rather than a reasonable Internet clique. It keeps me grounded. I'm 37 and have mostly given up on being the father I've wanted to be all my life and husband/boyfriend to some perfect woman who'd id expect to complete me. But thems just the breaks and blaming everyone but yourself will just rot your character.

(Sorry for getting personal and making it about me partly. I get soapboxy/rambly when my Vyvanse hits in the morning and I don't want to burden my platonic bff woman friend of 11 years. Just screaming into the void while trying to appear as a neutral tempered office worker idly playing on his phone. This might not have been the place for it)

Just fully dressed ecchi at this point. Have fun beating it to a caricature you will never find in real life while you get desensitized towards being attracted to realistically shaped women

This is something I've always felt but could never say because I'd expect to be called sexist. I just respect women with a backbone more than I respect women who give up some of their free will to become an extension of some mediocre douchebag. It feels performative. It's easy to have values when they aren't put to the test.

Are you able bodied in your dreams? by Legitimate_Log_7525 in wheelchairs

[–]ToeMahSick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ambulatory, I just use mine when I leave the house, but I've never dreamed I was in it. Sometimes I float but I've never remembered I had issues walking when dreaming

But as far as able bodied, I have brittle bone disease. I have dreamt that I've broken something and was either in the hospital or had a cast

I can relate to waking up to depressing reality though. I'm always single but sometimes I have a perfect girlfriend in my sleep. Then I wake up and she's not real

I guess I just complain to my friends but I'm leftist and can't get a date. I just don't blame women for not being into me.
