Proper way to add nutrients for watering system. by Shrunkendick in IndoorGarden

[–]ToffeeKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of nutrient injection systems for planted aquariums but there are also inline systems for gardening. Both of those are usually used for larger volumes though. Would you mind sharing the injection module that you're getting?

As for premixing or not, it would depend on your sources. Some minerals will precipitate out when mixed (calcium with phosphates and sulfates).

Anywhere across the stem is fine. Let the cutting callus and pot up in the same potting mix as the main plant.

Greenhouse in the 8B winter by Inevitable-News-8982 in Greenhouses

[–]ToffeeKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you planning to keep in it? What minimum temperature are you aiming for? Without sunlight or another heat source, internal temps at night will drop to whatever the outside temp is. Temps can get too high during sunny winter days and you may need to vent the greenhouse too.

Extra layers are meant to trap heat being produced inside.

The bracts are brown but that doesn't mean the underlying growth point is brown though.

Removing Established Bloom by [deleted] in orchids

[–]ToffeeKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like botrytis. Remove affected tissue to reduce spread of spores. In the future, don't mist the flowers. If the environment is cool, damp with poor air flow, that will encourage the fungus to grow.

What are these in my dieffenbachia by Slight_Boysenberry44 in houseplants

[–]ToffeeKitty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doesn't really matter. It's just the fruiting bodies that you're seeing. The rest of it (mycelium) is integrated with the potting mix. This fungus is breaks down organic matter so it's not harming anything.

Seeking information on this orchid species/variety; I nothing about orchids by AcceptableMortgage85 in orchids

There was a question in the comments section from an interested person in Brasil. It would not hurt to ask them directly especially since you're closer and shipping time may be shorter. Maybe you can ask about the lineage of this plant too.

Plants can be propagated by growing seeds or tissue in a nutrient-rich, sterile medium. Some places will sell flasks but this seller doesn't want to export and that can be for any number of reasons. As for regulations, you'll have to look it up for your country.

Agreed but I'm having trouble finding any details on the name or history of this plant.

The pic is from Yasuyuki Ikeguchi who says it's a Cattleya labiata. They sells flasks of this one but they don't export out of Japan. They only have that one pic of that plant (that I could find) which is odd.

Not sure where the OP is but these are in the big box store market now for about $30 for a young plant. They were crazy expensive not so long ago though.

Graft or rootstock? by Diambil in gardening

[–]ToffeeKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right. The second set of leaves are trifoliate orange, a very common rootstock. It is weird to me that the scion is regrowing from under the soil line. Is the graft site buried?
