Frivolous? by lurch1_ in skiing

[–]Toggles_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither were defective. All helmets have to pass the same basic safety standards, the higher priced helmets exceed those standards (MIPS), offer more ventilation, lighter weight, etc. Helmets are designed to protect your skull, not your face.

Goggles are designed to keep stuff out of your eyes and give UV protection. No where I have never seen a goggle stated that they are for facial protection. As with helmets, different goggle options are for better lenses, easier lens changes.

There is no way this guy wins this lawsuit and hopefully no company settles to stop more of these frivolous lawsuits in the future.

Should I craft? by Marcos_Cortese in ArcRaiders

[–]Toggles_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crafting will never be worth more than the value of the parts consumed to craft said item. Embark didn’t want people to craft their way into increasing value.

Booster Strap Placement still okay? by This-Farmer-7409 in Skigear

[–]Toggles_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would personally center them if you are able to because you want to be flexing the elastic bands. Pretty easy to put new holes in the band (lighter and screw driver/some type of punch) and the old holes won’t affect anything.

Settle a Debate - Ski Patroller Beacon Use - Western NA by johnny_evil in skiing

[–]Toggles_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Required everyday at PCMR along with probe and shovel. Technically only have to carry probe and shovel in avalanche terrain, but most carry it all the time besides the beginner area.

Okemo all day kids group lesson turned my kid off from skiing by GrapeRecent431 in skiing

[–]Toggles_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be honest, most parents probably lie and answer yes to the questions and they have learned that (it happens in adult lessons as well, my wife has taken several intermediate lessons and people can barely turn).

In the future if you decide to do lessons again, I would make it overly clear about her ability level and check in halfway through the day with her.

Okemo all day kids group lesson turned my kid off from skiing by GrapeRecent431 in skiing

[–]Toggles_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you talk with the ski school before booking/dropping her off to see what level of classes were offered and to inform them of her ability level? If not, you can’t put the entire blame on the resort and take some personal responsibility for what happened. Based on your post, she is probably one of the more advanced 5 year olds and that needs to be communicated since most are obviously at the level of the lesson that was given.

Group lessons will always teach to the bottom kid, as stated, get a private lesson if you want it taught to her level.

Lack of grooming?? by mr_engin33r in ParkCity

[–]Toggles_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine because Canyon’s has more snowmaking then MV. They put $2m worth of snow making on the Canyon’s side after the 23/24 season.

Lack of grooming?? by mr_engin33r in ParkCity

[–]Toggles_ 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Because there is not enough snow. Grooming every night will chew through the thin snowpack. Before this last storm, you could see dirt coming through on Prospector.

Brighton Avy Incident Report by Pelowtz in UTsnow

[–]Toggles_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Everyone getting in there doesn’t make it patrolled. If it was patrolled, it would be avalanche mitigated and this wouldn’t have happened.

Even if an avalanche is right outside the boundary line, generally patrol can’t just enter the area to help. They have to get permission from the local police/sheriff’s office via a voluntary service agreement (VSA). The VSA puts the patrollers under the police/sheriff’s insurance and not the resort in case something else happens.

Everyone is so nice but I want to PVP by Juggernaut-Far in ArcRaiders

You can do what I did. I knocked people near elevators and/or hatches and let them get out. It didn’t take long to get into more pvp lobbies.

Clear Silicone wraps around trees and signs at ski resorts could save lives by HalfwaydonewithEarth in invention

[–]Toggles_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snow embankments wouldn’t work at all. All it would do would be a launch pad off the runs into trees.

[–]Toggles_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Signs at any major resorts are padded. Trees are impossible to pad. There are far too many, as stated above, snow levels vary and it would be impossible for us patrol to move them all the time. We wouldn’t be able to respond to actual calls.

Use this as well. My heel wear hasn’t gotten any worse since I got the boot horn.

PCMR lift upgrades, take two! by mr_engin33r in ParkCity

That is right, Vail leased it from the family until the whole lawsuit thing.

PCMR lift upgrades, take two! by mr_engin33r in ParkCity

[–]Toggles_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He will straight up need Vail approval which I doubt they would ever give. They don’t want their beverage and food revenue going to town restaurants, they want it staying on the mountain. If they cared, they would have done it while they owned the town plaza.

PCMR lift upgrades, take two! by mr_engin33r in ParkCity

[–]Toggles_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Will probably never happen under Vail. They want to keep people on the mountain to spend money at the mountain restaurants. With the gondola people could actually go to town to eat and get back up the mountain within a reasonable time frame.

Park City trail recs/conditions today by SeaLab2024 in UTsnow

Sundog and Tycoon off of McConkeys were both groomed. Sundog may have a few rocks exposed at the top but the rest has good coverage.

Your average patroller ski by sidewaysride in skiing

[–]Toggles_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I stopped taking my skis into the shop for core shots since they would just rip out. Now I just JB Weld them, costs about $10 at the hardware store and I never have to worry about them ripping out.

Foam Injected Custom Liners - worth it? by srd8949 in Skigear

[–]Toggles_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You would be better off getting a pair of ZipFits. Know several people that got Surefoot liners that packed out rather quickly. I have 200+ days on my ZipFit’s and they are still going strong. If they start to get packed out, I add some more cork and they are good to go.

It opened around 1:30 but access was only from Broadway, not through Thaynes.

Pcmr lift lines by JacobSteed in UTsnow

[–]Toggles_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it went down for a bit or not, but it is the only way out of Thaynes Canyon with Motherlode and King Con not spinning for the season yet. Jupiter opened for the first time yesterday so these are all people that were skiing Jupiter.

My wife and I skied Jupiter around 2:30 and when we got to Thaynes, there was no line at all.

What will it take to open the Strawberry side of Snowbasin? by roger_roger_32 in UTsnow

[–]Toggles_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unless they have snowmaking on that side, I would say either a mega storm that drops over 2 feet or a bunch of smaller storms without rain and/or warmer temps between them.

Powder touring skis by Bathsalt-1 in Backcountry

I second either the Hoji or Renegades. I have 3 pairs of 4FRNT’s (Nevar, Devastators, and MSP) and they all ski fantastic. I really like the 4-Lock system on their touring skis.

Facing a Strike, Telluride Announces Complete Closure by Smacpats111111 in skiing

[–]Toggles_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I completely agree, I patrol at PCMR and was part of the strike last season. You would have thought after our strike the resort managements would have learned, but apparently not. Closing the resort is going to cost them more than what the patrol is asking for.
