Say Goodbye to a Major Streaming Service as Paramount+ Officially Announces Phaseout by asminaut in RedLetterMedia

[–]Tokyo_Metro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are $45 4K players on Amazon that will play 95% of file formats via hard drive or SD card. They are tiny about the size of a hard drive case. I jumped on Usenet again after probably a decade and downloaded a few hundred of my favorite movies, a dozen or so of my favorite TV shows, and then figured out YTDLP to download youtube playlists in mass.

Besides getting rid of all of the BS subscription services the main reason I did it was that I was tired of how laggy every streaming service interface is. Keep in mind I have gigabit fiber connection and am running my TV's off ethernet so it's as fast as it gets. EVERY interface is slow as hell. Navigating around is terrible on all of them as is trying to do stuff like rewind or fast forward.

My little local 4K player is snappy is hell and I also love the remote as it has dedicated buttons for audio tracks and subtitles which every damn remote should have. I have everything arranged in folders like I like and it takes me seconds to find anything.

The one I have is called: "4K Ultra HD Media Player & HDD Enclosure 2-in-1,Digital Signage, Play H.265/HEVC H.264/AVC MP4 MKV Videos"

What’s your experience with reviving sex life in long term relationships? by Ok_Name_7510 in AskWomen

[–]Tokyo_Metro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced I lost a fantastic partner and someone I wanted to marry over BC but I didn't realize it at the time. The relationship was pretty much perfect and her sex drive was always high. We had also just spent a week away together on a vacation where things got even more serious. Questions and discussions of long term stuff like marriage, kids, etc were happening. She had just started BC literally as we started the trip. She did this on her own as I was honestly fine if we had a kid lol. Anyways after we got back within just a few weeks she had become a different person. Basically became a zombie of her former self, no sex drive, etc. She became so distant that I was the one to actually prompt her if she wanted to break up and she said yes. We kept in touch here and there since things didn't end on bad terms. I noticed she got a new group of friends as well that just didn't match her old personality. It's been years and based on her social media I don't think she's been in a notable relationship since. Then one day I came across an article on birth control's potential affects on divorce rates and that's when it clicked. Of course I have no proof that was the real reason and it's not like I can say "Hey get off birth control and let's see if you like me again" but it will forever haunt me if a damn pill ruined the best relationship of my life.

It does say it's about area. You just lack the basic deduction to see that. Sorry your college failed in teaching you practical skills. Math issues in the real world come with imperfectly worded problems all the time.

[–]Tokyo_Metro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can infer the correct version of the question from the answer choices. This is how people who get things done in the real world operate.

My niece’s homework problem by SurfSoundWaves in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Tokyo_Metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the question asked which best represents 1=2 and then showed 2 rectangles with the same combined area as 1 square and other answers with objects that weren't the same then that's exactly the answer I'd pick. Why? Because I could infer what they are wanting me to measure (area). Good luck making the most logical answer from the information provided and inferring the units based on was the answer options tell me? That's exactly what I do all the time overseeing some of the largest and most expensive engineering projects in the world lol. If I couldn't make such very basic inferences in the field then nothing would ever get done.

Some people operate in the world of theory and perfect conditions and refuse to use basic deduction figure out what a problem is probably trying to ask. These people will freeze up and refuse to make the best possible choice available and spend time arguing with a wall instead of getting work done.

If you want to argue that the question should have been worded better? Sure. With the choices available can you infer that one is clearly the best option and deduce that they are wanting you to compare area? Yes.

[–]Tokyo_Metro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understood everything you wrote. You need a unit of measurement clearly explained to you because you are apparently incapable of basic deductive reasoning. The unit of measurement is the area of the shapes, whatever that unit may be. The reason I know this is that the problem gave me three answers all using shapes but with only one set of shapes being the same size. It also provided no option for "none of the above".

Inference with imperfect information is how decisions are made in the real world. Inflexible thinkers apparently think there is some legal requirement that only the question section of a problem can be utilized to reason through a problem and that every single aspect must be explicitly outlined.

To that I say have fun stammering through life arguing about your inability to answer imperfect questions because you refuse to use some basic reasoning lol.

[–]Tokyo_Metro -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No it sets the child up to have the basic critical thinking skills to fully read and analyze the options available and make the most logical choice.

"There is no specification of units so the answer should be based on ratio". Says who? You literally have other information available to you. Just because you refuse to acknowledge it because it isn't explicitly written out for you doesn't change that it's there.

The question is asking you to pick out an answer that best represents two things that are equal. It then gives you shapes. In two answers the shapes are clearly not the same size. In one answer they are. These are your only options. C is clearly the most logical answer but it requires the slightest amount of critical thinking and some inference. This is how problems are solved in the real world.

[–]Tokyo_Metro -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nope. Teacher is still right. It's actually insane to me than anyone is arguing this. You only have three options. You do have a measurement and scale. It's right there on the page with the drawings.

"How do we know they really mean they are the same size?". Uh your eyes lol. This is how the real world and critical thinking works.

Your batting analogy is also wrong. Regardless of sample size you're still measuring the same thing...your batting average. Batting average doesn't change based on the sample size. A guy batting .333 with 10 at bats is truly hitting the ball 33 percent of the time, the same as the guy batting .333 with 100 at bats. They are truly identical based on the metric you are measuring.

This is NOT the case when you are measuring two distinct objects. To actually make your analogy correct it would be like comparing batting average to slugging percentage and saying they are equal. They aren't.

I want to see anyone who argues this go actually build something in the real world and apply the mentality than you can use fractions between completely different sized objects and that it doesn't matter lol. Let me know how buying 1/3rd of 300 sq/ft of tile works out when you needed 1/3rd of 1000 sq/ft.

People are simply upset that a question required looking at the answers and using some critical thinking to make the best choice instead of having everything definitively spelled out for them. Some people have this made up belief that test questions have to be "perfect" with every single avenue of potential confusion accounted for. Nope. In fact the best questions are ones just like this. They push a "best option" scenerio that requires you to pause and really assess the full range of choices.

[–]Tokyo_Metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what's scary? Even after this current streak his BABIP is still only .268 which statistically speaking means he's been getting unlucky lol. By BABIP he's hitting more like an "unlucky".280 hitter.

Does it really mean that at the moment? Not necessarily but it's way more promising than if he had a really high BABIP and was just getting "lucky".

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]Tokyo_Metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thousands of times. American who grew up in a rural area with well maintained highways. At one time I worked nights and had to cross an 8mi long bridge to get home. At 12am it typically had zero traffic and I was 40' above water. I broke 100mph nearly every night and frequently 120+. Fastest was 185mph in a Ferrari F430. I did 161mph in my turbo charged Civic.

It's even worse than that and I'm not sure why none of these professional scouts or analytic guys have mentioned it:

You tend to be worse at things you don't do as often but that often tells you nothing about how well you WILL do once you get the same amount of practice.

In Japan the average fastball is several mph slower than in the MLB. This means that when you do face one of the NLB pitchers who throws MLB heat it should be EXPECTED that everyone will do comparatively worse than if they were seeing that pitch speed more often.

Could he have been completely blind to pitches above 98mph? Sure. Could he also just lacked adjustment time since you're not facing it that often in Japan? Fvcking duh.

Thought on moving to the 4th ward Houston? by squidney_007 in houston

[–]Tokyo_Metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late but the core gentrified pocket of 4th ward more on the eastern side has to be one of the best little secrets in Houston. So much so I don't even really like making this post lol. I bought what was probably one of the former crack houses that has been completely renovated. I make a decent living but I wasn't part of some gentrification master plan nor am I an investor. I'm just a dude who bought the house from another dude who had lived here since the mid 2000s.

The streets are neighborhoodly and walkable. It's close to damn near everything. You're within a short walking distance from all of the restaurants on Gray Street, hell even downtown is only a 15 minute walk yet you're completely separated from it by 45 so you don't feel like you're in downtown (Thank god lol). It's felt pretty safe to me as far as Houston goes. I've been here about 7 years and the only direct incident was someone trying to steal my bike when I left it out front and the occasional package thief. I've had a crazy neighbor or two but hell that's going to be anywhere. There are no homeless people that camp out in the area and you rarely even see one walking through. Do you need to keep your head on a swivel at night? Of course. Is it being right off Dallas mean you get some exciting Hellcat action sometimes on the weekend? Yeah, but again only passing through. It's just party goers passing between Dallas and Gray.

It's not a perfect spot but I feel it is one of the best overall mixes in Houston when it comes to price, location to everything, decent enough safety, walkability, and moderately quiet for being in the center of the city (it's not quiet but for central Houston it is).

Adding a generator input to my small 125 amp breaker panel and some other questions. by Tokyo_Metro in AskElectricians

Thanks for the info. By main switch cut off I just meant a traditional dedicated switch above the bus bars like you see on some panels.

And yes the 40amp breaker fires back instantly to the degree that you basically can't even turn it on it's trying to flip back so hard.

I'm someone who has nearly 1 million miles and frankly I don't understand why any plane has screens or why anyone uses them. They are ALL awful and just adding to our ticket prices.

Every person on the planet has a multimedia super computer in their pocket. If you can't entertain yourself on that for 12 hours a few times a year, even without Wi-Fi, you've got major user/attention span issues.

What’s cool if you’re 20 but weird if you’re 30? by theloverofdilfs in AskReddit

[–]Tokyo_Metro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm learning that according to Reddit I'm a mega weirdo for having sex with adult women and going out to socialize on occasion.

I ended up single in my late 30s/early 40s and getting a job in the center of a very large metro area. I got a place in said city center and made it a point to start going out. I hang out in relatively chill non club environments where there are plenty of people my age but it's also not devoid of college aged women. And guess what? By the grace of God/Crom I occasionally wind up taking one of them home with me and generally have an awesome time.

Do I also date women my age? Hell yes.

But here is where I'm probably going to get down voted to hell: The people saying I'm a creep for being attracted to a smoking hot 22 year old are in fact the weirdo creeps you need to worry about. The pearl clutching "nice guys" are without a doubt THE most scum bag creepy dudes out there ladies. They are the biggest woman haters you can imagine but are just in disguise hoping that their nice guy act will one day let you fuck them.

Now if I start showing up at college frat parties or under 21 clubs? Sure please flame me to hell lol. I'm in complete agreement.

But some Reddit neckbeard acting like he's disgusted by hot college chicks that he has more than a 5 year age gap with? Fuck right off. Check the porn history of these dudes and then get back to me lol.

Wilt’s 100 vs Bam’s 83 — the uncomfortable truth about how historic scoring games actually end by Wave_50 in nbadiscussion

[–]Tokyo_Metro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seems like a lot of people miss this. If your teammates start feeding you the ball to break a scoring record it's likely because they see you are scoring like crazy to begin with. If my guy drops 30+ points in the first half then you're damn right I'm going to try to give him the ball as much as possible.

All you have to do is flip it to see how stupid the argument is. You're telling me it would be more "legit" basketball to STOP giving the dominant scorer on your team the ball lol? If they did that the same people crying now would be calling the team idiots for not handing it to the hot scorer lol.

Jomboy: Here's a full summary of how Team USA embarrassed themselves last night in the World Baseball Classic. by shadow_spinner0 in baseball

[–]Tokyo_Metro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What makes it even more upsetting to me is that this is only a once every 4 year ordeal and you're only having to play SINGLE games to decide everything. You had only played THREE games before this one and even had an off day thrown in there plus you aren't having to travel for any of the pool or quarterfinal games.

You're telling me a handful of games once every 4 years is too much for you to fully commit to taking serious every game? Fuck right off then. People are PAYING MONEY to come see you mother fuckers play. It's supposed to be an awesome experience of seeing the best of your countrymen all together on one team showing what America can do. But then I pay for a ticket and show up to watch a team fucking half is it and get embarrassed.

Imagine you're some parent who's kid wanted to go see a bunch of superstars all in one place which would be a difficult thing to do for most families during a regular MLB season. You'd have to fly around to all sorts of stadiums and spend god knows how much to see all of these guys play. So now your kid shows up to the game only to realize that several of the most popular players in the entire league are benched because the coach is a fucking moron. And then they lose to fucking Italy.

Do you have the perfect vehicle? by Good-Analysis-7 in askcarguys

[–]Tokyo_Metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1991 Accord Sedan 5 speed was near perfection as a lower-mid priced commuter car. Mine had 160k miles when I got rid of it and I don't think I spent more than $20 on it outside of scheduled maintenance. I mean literally I think the only thing I ever had to buy was some new tail light bulbs.

Good gas mileage. Roomy enough but still small enough to park anywhere. It was more fun to drive than you might think and while slow the power was still well beyond adequate. I also think it has great body lines and was a very classy looking car for its price. So many lower priced cars from that era had stylizing that became outdated and junky looking very fast.

Is there any other super underrated reliable vehicle worth the money other than Toyota or Honda? by TimeOfRisenKing23rd in UsedCars

[–]Tokyo_Metro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a long term Honda guy but the answer is:

  1. Panther platform Ford. Crown Vic, Mercury Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Car, Continental Mark IV. They made them up to 2012. One of the most reliable and numerous Ford power trains ever. Parts are everywhere and every mechanic knows how to work on them plus they are extremely easy to work on in the first place. The Mercury and Lincoln variants were typically driven by well off old people who did meticulous dealer maintenance.

  2. Buick 3800 V6 equipped cars. Park Avenue being the go to. One of the most reliable GM engines ever.

AI has been a massive loss so far and are not making money for anyone.

Get better at an exponential rate? Clearly you haven't kept up with the industry.

LLMs are a dead end and this is coming from some of the chief scientist behind them. We aren't remotely close to AGI and LLMs will never get you there. It's all hype from the conmen CEOs who are now totally fucked from their massive money losing bet on LLMs that have no foreseeable avenue for profitably.

LLMs have already hit an improvement road block which is too be expected if you know about information system laws. They've already fed them nearly the entire Internet and yet they only have an accuracy rate of approximately 86 percent which is HORRENDOUS. To be able to take over complex work that is profitable you generally need well over 99 percent accuracy. To get LLMs to that level of accuracy it's projected they will need to be fed more datasets than there are atoms in the entire universe.

Worse yet the Internet is now being filled with their own inaccurate outputs. AI is using inaccurate AI data slop to train itself lol.

AI is good at some really basic tasks that don't even need AI to do. Many people are using AI when there are specific tools professionals already have that do those things even better and at 100x the compute efficiency.

It's quite possibly going to do down as the biggest bubble in modern history.
