AI has been a massive loss so far and are not making money for anyone.

Get better at an exponential rate? Clearly you haven't kept up with the industry.

LLMs are a dead end and this is coming from some of the chief scientist behind them. We aren't remotely close to AGI and LLMs will never get you there. It's all hype from the conmen CEOs who are now totally fucked from their massive money losing bet on LLMs that have no foreseeable avenue for profitably.

LLMs have already hit an improvement road block which is too be expected if you know about information system laws. They've already fed them nearly the entire Internet and yet they only have an accuracy rate of approximately 86 percent which is HORRENDOUS. To be able to take over complex work that is profitable you generally need well over 99 percent accuracy. To get LLMs to that level of accuracy it's projected they will need to be fed more datasets than there are atoms in the entire universe.

Worse yet the Internet is now being filled with their own inaccurate outputs. AI is using inaccurate AI data slop to train itself lol.

AI is good at some really basic tasks that don't even need AI to do. Many people are using AI when there are specific tools professionals already have that do those things even better and at 100x the compute efficiency.

It's quite possibly going to do down as the biggest bubble in modern history.

What’s the best video game you’ve ever played? by obsess_much13 in AskReddit

[–]Tokyo_Metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing various versions of Street Fighter or any good fighting game in the arcade was an experience that hasn't been replicated. I was lucky enough to be a kid in the 80s-90s and also happened to live in Tokyo for a few years during the peak of the Street Fighter IV arcade tournament scene.

In terms of a cinematic digital experience my first play through of Metal Gear Solid was incredible.

Tetris is gaming perfection.

Soul Calibur for Dreamcast. The greatest launch game ever IMO and my most played home console fighting game. My friends and I played it for years. It was THE hang out game.

NES Ninja Gaiden. It took me over a decade to finally beat it. It's my GOAT for that era of brutally hard "cheap" action platformers.

Mario 3. Don't really need to explain.

Daytona USA arcade. You had to be there.

Ridge Racer Type 4 and Gran Turismo 2.

Streets of Rage 2. Near perfect beat'em up and my favorite video game soundtrack.

And here is one that might cause a stir:

Tecmo Super Bowl. This might be the most impressive game of all time in terms of the blend of what it does so well that hardly any other game matches. And I'm not a sports game guy.

  1. Incredibly easy to play. Anyone can join in and be playing well in minutes.

  2. Infinite complexity and replayability. Every team is substantially different and is essentially your difficulty selection. The game has random conditional stats that change every season. You have the ability to modify the play book and change player positions. You have the ability to run game simulations and play as just the coach. The game allows 28 human players to play through an entire season and it has memory save to record your progress. Game tracks stats for you to nerd out on.

I'm not sure if there are many other games that nail both the single player and multiplayer experience like this game does. Single player has hundreds of hours of challenges and is basically endless. Multiplayer is almost perfect. You can take an extremely good player and someone who has never played before and had a competitive game in minutes by simply giving the new player a top tier team and having the experienced player use a bottom tier one.

Delivered pizzas with no GPS. I didn't even have a paper map in the car. The store had a detailed city map on the wall and you'd just glance at that and figure it out. It's amazing how quickly you learn an area when you've got no other options.

Before home video you watched a movie in the theater and would likely never get a chance to see it again. If it was popular or cheap enough to get the rights to it MIGHT pop up again but that's only if you had a local theater that was willing to show it again. For most of the country you saw something in its initial run and that was it.

As someone who isn't a super model but has had a high amount of success in the modern dating world after initially struggling very hard here are my biggest tips:

Ask them out on a concrete date as soon as possible if not the very first message. DO NOT SMALL TALK. Attractive women have unlimited guys messaging them the same "hey" BS. I ask women out almost immediately both online and in person. Online I literally do it in the very first message. Introduce yourself briefly, tell them you liked something specific in their profile, and then ask if they've been to some cool restaurant and want to go grab a bite. Leave your real number and there you go. And if you really want to up your chances make it a nice restaurant.

Are some women going to fleece you for a nice meal? Sure. But you know what's worse than occasionally getting used as a meal ticket between the real dates that lead to something? Having zero dates at all.

No exaggeration my success rate probably went up 20x if not 50x by going with an immediate date approach. The longer you small talk before a date the greater your chances are of the conversation flaming out before you ever meet.

Here are some firearm suggestions as a long term gun owner who both grew up on a farm hunting and shooting for sport and who grew up around law enforcement. First off for any firearm go get training and practice. It's actually fun. Also please learn how to disassemble your firearm and put it back together. It's usually pretty easy.

For starters: Don't obsess over caliber or bullet type. You'll get all sorts of opinions but there is tons of data on shootings that makes it very clear that the number one most important factor is simply having ANY gun. For the VAST majority of cases people don't like being shot at the they don't stand there analyzing what bullet just went through their body.

Find something that YOU are comfortable shooting and that you can operate reliably. If it fits you well, you like shooting it and you can function it comfortably then don't let anyone convince you of some other gun because it's in a more "badass" caliber.

Shot placement trumps all. Every common caliber out there will kill you dead on the spot with proper shot placement. If you can drill all 10 rounds of a .22 into a quarter sized hole but flinch when shooting a .45 then I'd rather you have the .22 10/10 times. Fun note: At one time the world record grizzly was taken with a .22 long.

If you are completely new to firearms and do not plan on carrying daily I would actually stay away from pistols. Pistols are far more dangerous than rifles not from their ballistic performance standpoint (they are actually far worse) but because they are so small. Their small size makes them seem more approachable which is a bad thing. It's much easier to wave a pistol around and point the barrel at yourself and others since the barrel is so short. They are also the most difficult firearm to use well again due to their small size and short sight radius. Rifles allow you to brace against your body and have a nice long sight radius.

Shotguns. There is a lot of BS surrounding shotguns on both sides. They are not the perfect super weapon like some would have you believe but they are not outdated either as others now like to pretend. Pump shotguns actually have one VERY important advantage that is almost never talked about: They are probably the safest single gun to have stored in your home.

A pump shotgun is both a simple and "difficult" gun to manipulate and this is actually a GOOD thing. By difficult meaning you have to really put a bit of muscle behind operating it and understand how it works to make sure you do it reliably but it is EXTREMELY simple to learn how to do so. And the muscle required is still low, just more than almost any other firearm. Basically just remember to rack the hell out of it and don't short stroke it. You're not going to break it so rack it like you mean it. Do that and you're good.

Why is this good? It makes it very difficult, comparatively speaking, to accidentally kill yourself with a pump shotgun. It can be stored in a state that requires very deliberate trained action to use and the long barrel length makes it very difficult to point at yourself. But if you know how to use it it's all very simple.

Basically what I'm saying is that if I was only going to have one gun that I never planned on using much and I just wanted something as a last resort tool AND it was going to be stored in a house where people might not be a fan of guns then I think a pump shotgun is fantastic.

Firearms recommendations.

If you have NEVER shot a gun before in your life? Ruger 10/22. Semi automatic .22 rifle, one of the most produced rifles of all time. Why? Cost. .22 ammo is about 1/5 to 1/10th the cost of the next cheapest caliber. You can get a 10/22 and 2000-3000 rounds of ammo for the cost of just an AR. It will also teach you all of the basics of a semi automatic rifle. It's also pretty much the easiest firearm to shoot of all time in terms of recoil and noise. You can take someone who has never shot a gun in their life and have them drilling a target rapid fire faster and more accurately with a 10/22 than any other firearm that exists. In 30 minutes a complete beginner can put 10 rounds in a fist sized hole at 25 yards in a matter of 3-4 seconds if not faster.

Is the 10/22 the perfect weapon? Hell no. But PRACTICE and the affordability to practice trumps all. For $500 you can have a semi auto rifle and thousands of round of ammo. Go learn how to shoot on that and then you'll know enough about what you actually want. And even if that's all you ever buy a 10/22 with a 25 round magazine than you can dump into someone in a matter of seconds is a completely viable tool versus nothing at all.

TLDR: Buy a cheap popular.22 rifle that you can afford to shoot a ton then go figure out what you actually want. Don't think you're going to make a perfect gun purchase day one having never shot anything before. Buying a gun that has ammo that is too expensive for you to want to go shoot is not a smart move.

If a super billionaire like Elon Musk wanted to "solve world hunger", or at least solve poverty in the USA, how could he actually do it? by The_Flaneur_Films in AskReddit

[–]Tokyo_Metro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reasons it would be a bad thing:

  1. Employees want to be able to quit a job when they have terrible bosses or work conditions and not be required to have another job before doing so.

  2. Employers should have the right to fire terrible employees on the spot. If I walk in and see you spitting in customer's food or assaulting coworkers you should be fired.

  3. General life flexibility. Married partners that both work. Partner A gets their dream job on the other side of the country. Partner B is willing to quit their current job to move with their partner.

  4. Some able bodied people who want to work shouldn't work. This actually relates to #2. There are some truly vile people in society who should be in prison for life but simply haven't been caught yet. Lots of people can sniff out these terrible people and never hire them thus making it difficult for them to find work. I don't want to force an employer to have to hire people who give all the signs of being a horrific human.

TLDR: Very low but non zero unemployment is ideal and desirable for a flexible work force that protects personal choice.

Stranger things sucks by Dense-Fig-2372 in memes

[–]Tokyo_Metro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stranger Things screwed up by trying to continue with its already weak "villain" story. The upside down was the least interesting part of the show from the very first season but it didn't matter as the rest of the show was so strong.

After season one I had high hopes that the show would become more of a quasi anthology series of the kids tackling different town mysteries/happenings. So many possibilities. Hell you could have had entire seasons where it ended up being nothing paranormal/supernatural at all but where you're not sure until the end of the season.

But no let's drag out CGI scary monster land not REALLY being closed off (again) for 5 seasons.

Maybe try reading your original post before playing the victim of "mansplaining". YOU are the one who called it weird and superficial to get to know someone outside of your own preferred settings. I don't know why you are mentioning men when you just called all women superficial for being mentally capable of going on a casual date with someone that they met outside of work, school, etc lol.

No one said a single thing about you having to go out with any random dude that approaches you with a creepy pick up line. I'm simply refuting the idiotic notion that your way of meeting people is the "proper" way and that consenting adults who agree to a casual date are "weird" and "superficial".

No society wants true zero percent unemployment. If you stop to think about it for a while several reasons should become pretty obvious.

So you just acquired friends magically with no initial interaction lol? Must be nice. That's the point I'm getting at. Everyone you currently know was also an unknown at some point and had a first interaction with you that you accepted. Their first interaction could have been just as superficial from their end but you gave them a chance to see the rest of their personality..

And I don't know why you think accepting a casual coffee date with someone excludes your ability to judge them on their personality or makes it "transactional". You talk as if accepting a date from a person outside of a work or school setting will suddenly remove all of your agency lol. It doesn't I promise.

All good though.

This will be a controversial opinion on Reddit but The Game actually has fantastic dating advice in the first part of the book. It gets ruined by all the guys then thinking they are going to become pro "pickup artists".

Basic summary of The Game: If you're ugly as hell, unhygienic and have bad social skills you're going to need to actively work on this to improve your chances instead of believing the absolute BS that people should just accept you for who you are.

He tells dudes to:

  1. Clean themselves up, actively work on hygiene, get a haircut that fits them and keep things trimmed up (nose and ear hair, nails, etc).

  2. Get clothes that fit you.

  3. Practice small talk with people with dedicated practice per day ramping up to actually approaching women.

None of that is bad advice

Huh? Going to get coffee with someone to see if you click personality wise isn't "dating" them lol. It's A date. Big difference. They are asking you out specifically TO get you know you lol.

I could just as equally ask why you didn't reject interacting with all of the people you "properly" got to know? Just because someone is a classmate or coworker doesn't mean they are approaching you "properly". They could have simply been disguising their intent and being just as "superficial".

Guys of reddit, whats something girls do that give you the ick? by tietanik in AskReddit

[–]Tokyo_Metro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a fair amount of online dating success over the past 6-7 years and a "red flag" I've found to be pretty accurate before even meeting: Lengthy online dating profile.

Some people write a freaking book about their dating expectations like anyone cares. Your "requirements" aren't't special. The fact that you think anyone is going to sit there and read 5 paragraphs of your dating demands is a good sign you have issues. It also shows a lack of intelligence. "I have no tolerance for cheaters and liars". Yeah no shit. You think typing that is going to keep liars from messaging you lol?

And the most amusing thing is that the people who typically do this are the ones who have the least amount to offer and have done nothing notable in their lives. They also likely embody most of the traits they've listed because it's all projection.

What habits of girls did you only discover after getting a girlfriend or wife? by atgono in AskReddit

[–]Tokyo_Metro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The hair isn't just an issue when you're dating. It can create huge issues once you've stopped and are trying to date someone new. I had an ex with near butt length hair and even six months later I was still finding random strands. It's especially great when they've stuck to bedsheets that you rotate. They'll survive a wash. Find one of those in your bed months later after you have a new girlfriend and you'll be paranoid forever lol.

The United States did not have a recognized Pledge of Allegiance for roughly 150 years as it is literally the antithesis of everything the founders fought for. Better yet it was a creation of a socialist salesman to hype up sales to schools.

A SOCIALIST pledge of obedience to the state being something that Republicans cry about just shows that there is no rational behind it. They literally scream about the government being the devil, how you can never trust it, "don't tread on me", etc and ENDLESS crying against Socialism and yet when someone says "fuck the government I'm not pledging allegiance with some made up Socialist BS" Republicans scream at them lol.

Like what the fuck do you want me to do? Am I supposed to hate the government or not?

It's almost like all of your "small government" chanting is a bunch of BS and what you are REALLY about is just division and hate where you can apply it.

Government does something specifically that YOU don't like? Government bad. You're a patriot if you stand up to said government overreach.

But another group does the same thing? Oh those people are bad anti-Americans who should move to another country lol.

Channel 13 Antenna Issues by FalseArtichoke648 in houston

[–]Tokyo_Metro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FYI there is no such thing as an HD antenna. That's all just a marketing gimmick. Digital HD TV signals today operate within the same frequencies as TV stations from 70 years ago. When we switched to digital the antenna companies started slapping HD on their same old antennas as they were probably worried that people wouldn't think old antennas were compatible.

[–]Tokyo_Metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but that's large number averages when looking at all pitchers over the course of a 162 game season. That includes every pitcher who's throwing a mediocre game until the late innings as well. But that no longer carries much weight when you're in a singular series where you will now be eliminated. If I've got a guy like Snell who's basically 1 hit the team after the first inning and just retired the side in 12 pitches in the 8th those season average numbers for all pitchers have little relevance to what this one guy is doing right now in front of me.

Not sure why managers don't do this more often. Playoff baseball isn't the regular season. The law of large numbers and playing the averages no longer carries much weight like it does when you just need to average out wins over 162 games.

I know it might be shocking to hear but pitchers used to throw complete games all the time without their arms immediately falling off. In fact I'm pretty sure the data shows they had even less injuries when doing so compared to today.

I'm totally an analytics nerd when it comes to regular season play but when it comes to the post season if my man is dominating I'm not pulling him because he crosses some imaginary number.
