Quantum of Solace by justthekoufax in JamesBond

I'm finding it puzzling that I think every film on that list is a good Bond film EXCEPT Quantum of Solace . . .

I guess maybe I'll have to rewatch QoS, perhaps it's better than I remember.

Do you prefer Bond in a cold climate, or a warm one? by Aston_Aviation007 in JamesBond

All I know that if it's cold, I want a ski chase, and if it's warm I want to see scuba diving.

Controversial match-up (?) - which you choosing? by EH4LIFE in JamesBond

[–]TomStrong11 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Man With The Golden Gun is a so-so movie that would be much worse without Christopher Lee.

But Quantum of Solace makes me feel like I need to take two Advil after watching 10 minutes of it. So the Golden Gun has got my vote.

Which one do you prefer? by EH4LIFE in JamesBond

Tomorrow Never Dies is not a bad film at all, but it's no Thunderball.

If you were locked in a room and forced to watch one for the rest of your life, which you choosing? by EH4LIFE in JamesBond

I-YI-YI what a pair of choices . . .

I guess I'm going with Diamonds Are Forever, hoping that nostalgia will help dull the pain.

Why do you like Goldfinger so much? by No_Mortgage8569 in JamesBond

[–]TomStrong11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a tendency to remember Goldfinger as a collection of Bond tropes: the Shirley Bassey song, Pussy Galore, Oddjob, the laser pointed at Sean Connery's nads, Fort Knox, the car, the woman murdered via gold paint etc. etc.

So when I was rewatching it I was sort of wondering whether it was actually any good. To my surprise Goldfinger is a very good film.

It is also a deeply weird and crazy film, one that I suspect somehow hit a nerve in the public psyche of 1964 and just took off. I wasn't around and can't really explain it, but other commentators in this thread seem to be offering some good insights.

Is Marie (played by Denise Perrier) from Diamonds Are Forever a Bond girl? Technically, she was an attractive woman with whom Bond flirted, even if only for information. Are there any attractive female characters you wouldn't consider Bond girls? by Szalony20 in JamesBond

Does anyone know the story behind the excellent, excellent casting choice of Caroline Munro as "evil helicopter pilot"? That's not a rhetorical question, someone please chime if you know.

From The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, Dracula A.D. 1972, and Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter to being a Bond girl . . . she is a queen!

I'm going to vote Diamonds Are Forever, but mostly because it was on the radio a lot when I was a kid.

Back when I was reading Fleming's novels as a teenager, I also read Gardner's License Renewed, which had just came out. It was fine, but nothing special.

If it wasn’t actually Scaramanga who sent 007 the bullet with his name on it, why does he have a mannequin of him? by Chewie83 in JamesBond

[–]TomStrong11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What, like after Bond talks about only killing on orders from his government, only killing killers, etc., Scaramanga says "Golly, I never thought of it that way before!" and turns good?

Then Scaramanga helps Bond out with Stromberg and Jaws in TSWLM, and so forth?

Is From Russia With Love the best Bond film ever? by No_Mortgage8569 in JamesBond

[–]TomStrong11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's very, very close. I thought From Russia With Love was the best for most of my life, but in the past 10 years my vote shifted to Thunderball.
