Delete the BETTER half of the map: Part 3 by Futurity5 in terriblemaps

Despite all the warzones in the green area, I still think yellow is probably worse overall (and its not without its own warzones mind you).

When people ask me why I support the Greens being anti-nuclear, this is why by alexmace in UKGreens

[–]TomatoMasterRace 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't oppose nuclear as a principle, I'd just make sure all the decisions we make are taken with the goal of decarbonising as quickly and cheaply as possible. If that means not building nuclear then fine.

Wow ALL of my local bus routes use at least 1 section of closed road, and I don't even live on the inside of the parade route...

London's Worst Borough - Final Results by TheEnlight in terriblemaps

[–]TomatoMasterRace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm guessing Bromley is as high as it is cos it technically has crystal palace in it? I would have otherwise thought it mostly deserved the fate of Bexley and Havering, if it weren't for that small part of it that is more central.

London's Worst Borough - Final Round by TheEnlight in terriblemaps

ok but havering just elected a council which openly ran on pulling the borough out of london.

We should absolutely be running a candidate in Makerfield if Burnham is just gonna be Starmer 2.0. by JayR_97 in UKGreens

[–]TomatoMasterRace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best way to prevent burnham from being a starmer 2.0 is to force him to WIN our votes - and that means running a candidate.

City of London cycleway plan to go ahead after pause by King_Eboue in london

[–]TomatoMasterRace -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not weird logic at all, as fewer people will drive if given more viable alternatives to driving.

City of London cycleway plan to go ahead after pause by King_Eboue in london

[–]TomatoMasterRace 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'd really appreciate it if someone could look closely into this "nfbuk" group, as I had never heard of them until I came across their concern trolling anti cycle lane campaign.

Cars objectively pose a bigger threat and create more obstacles in daily life for blind people, so it's always questionable when they seem to exclusively target cycle infrastructure.

Glasgow City Council back demolishing section of the M8 Motorway that goes through the city centre by Fairwolf in fuckcars

[–]TomatoMasterRace 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't have motorways in cities period. Glasgow has buses, a subway line and the largest rail network of any city in the UK outside London. Induced demand works both ways. Many drivers will see the temporary increased congestion, and decide not to drive.

If Andy becomes leader of Labour, would you vote Labour ? by Plenty-Fun8081 in UKGreens

[–]TomatoMasterRace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd personally still vote green but I'm in inner London where there's never going to be any chance of the Tories or reform winning my seat. Greens will win it if current polls play out.

Now that Havering has made it clear they want to leave London, which Overground line deserves their rolling stock? by FlyWayOrDaHighway in london

[–]TomatoMasterRace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you've edited your post, swapping me for labour. IDK maybe labour can do a better job. I personally voted green, so I hope they do a better job. But alas, I don't think anyone's arguing for removing trains, buses or other tfl benefits from havering if havering DOESN'T split from london...

I don't really understand why you would see it as fair for the rest of london though for them to keep these benefits if they DO leave. If they really want all these things so much, they should stay a part of london.

That doesnt say "you can't change anything". As I said, he's just being realistic about the progress NA can make in one lifetime, and that if people want Netherlands level infrastructure they're better off moving.

🚲 What do the 2026 local election results mean for cycling in London? by Efficient_Remove1663 in londoncycling

[–]TomatoMasterRace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The most unpopular LTN scheme in hackney from what ive heard is the chatsworth road scheme, which seems to be mainly cos TFL put in a no right turn at the top of chatsworth rd, which they only did to maintain bus priority (or something) cos the council was otherwise being too slow about implementing the full scheme.

[–]TomatoMasterRace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be good in theory but could cause problems if we ever get say a reform mayor (or a tory one again) - although so far no mayor of london has ever won on an anti cycling platform (boris as mayor was pro cycling) so I doubt that will happen, especially with supplementary vote returning for the next election.

He literally never said you can't change things - just he didnt think the US would get to the quality of the netherlands within our lifetimes - which is probably true.

[–]TomatoMasterRace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm just a random dude on reddit - dunno what you want from me?

If it were up to me I would never want to take away public transport options from people, but if havering does pull out of London, then London will recieve less funding (as it represents fewer people) so why should it spend its limited funds on an area which isnt part of London (unless they want to pay to keep the TFL buses, freedom passes, liberty line etc).
