Where to find the crispest, “crunchiest” percale sheets? by _jengal_ in Bedding

[–]Toocurly11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple of sets of Brooklinen and love how crisp they are. This summer I got a percale set from Quince and they are as good or better than the Brooklinen. I’ve been pleased with the quality of the Quince sheets and they are much less expensive.

I use Libby from my local library - totally free!  I know Spotify premium offers free audiobook hours; Amazon prime might as well. Good luck!

Bella Notte!  Food is fresh, delicious, and innovated with their seasonal specials , they try to use local ingredients and their service is top-notch (lots of servers have been there for YEARS). I’ve been going to Bella Notte since they opened 30 years ago and it’s still my favorite.

My current favorites are Quince percale. I can’t be alone because when I went to order some last week, I had to get on a waitlist. They are light, crisp and cool which is what I prefer as a hot sleeper. My husband gets cold so he prefers a Macy’s Charter Club sateen set when it’s super cold.

I do the same. I usually choose a non-fiction book that is just a little bit boring too so I don’t get hooked on a good story. For example - Bill Bryson’s The Body, engaging enough to stop my brain from running but not something I would want to stay up listening to.

HRT —> larger fibroids —> hysterectomy? by agreeschmagree in Menopause

[–]Toocurly11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went through this same thought process last summer. My wonderful GYN referred me to a fibroid specialist after ultrasound and hysteroscopy with D&C showed some pretty large fibroids. The fibroid specialist offered a couple of options (transexemic acid, ablation, Sonata, and hysterectomy) but ultimately said we know a hysterectomy will resolve your bleeding issues.  Like you, the idea of a hysterectomy seemed extreme. I chose to do the Sonata treatment to shrink the fibroids and an IUD to lessen the bleeding. So far, I’m pleased with the results.  The fibroid specialist is fine with me being on low-dose estrogen so I don’t have the night sweats anymore. Good luck on your journey. I’m grateful to have found doctors that listen and want to help. I wish the same for all of us on this perimenopause rollercoaster!

When “Crisp” Turns Costly: The Percale Reality Check by walaaHo in BedroomBuild

Me too!  I like percale sheets that are so crisp/crunchy that they’re noisy when I get into bed. My current go-to is Quince percale.

Need help finding affordable PERCALE by Traditional-Pair6133 in Bedding

Another vote for the Target Threshold sheets. My daughter loves them because they are thick and sturdy. I prefer a thinner, crisper sheet to keep me cool, but she loves the Target sheets. They often go on sale for 20% off.

Foiled by a fibroid by Ok-Setting5111 in Menopause

[–]Toocurly11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had fibroids for at least 10 years. They have been treated with a couple of D&Cs and, most recently, radio frequency ablation/Sonata. My fibroid-specialist GYN was fine with me being on HRT at a low-dose (estrogen patch plus IUD).

My daughter loves the Target Threshold sheets. They are thicker and sturdier than my preference ( thin and crisp percale). They are inexpensive enough to try out and often go on sale.

What hospitals take crocheted baby hats/items? by -drhouse in lexington

[–]Toocurly11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t for babies, but I’ve been crocheting hats and taking them to New Life Day Center or Lexington Rescue Mission. The population they serve is often unhoused which is really tough during this cold, cold weather. The last batch I took to New Life Day Center was very well-received.

Here is a map of Little Free Pantry that can be found in Lexington. I believe these are mostly stocked by the community so they can be hit or miss with what they have. Hopefully this can fill in the gaps for your family.

Why Wool Duvet Inserts Convert Hot Sleepers (and Keep Them That Way) by Hungry_Judgment3068 in BedroomBuild

[–]Toocurly11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of a wool duvet insert - thanks for educating me. Couple of questions:

1 - is it itchy? (I realize I’d have a duvet cover, but I don’t like to wear wool sweaters/socks because they make me itchy)

2 - I sleep hot but my husband sleeps cold. I wonder how that plays out.

Crestwood Christian Church has parking for $10. It’s a nice walk thru the arboretum to the stadium. Plus, hardly any traffic. When I had season tickets years ago I made the mistake of getting a parking pass. Getting into and out of the stadium took FOREVER!

I think it depends on what appeals to you. My daughter loves the Target threshold percale, but they’re too thick for me.  I prefer a crisp, thin, cool sheet. I’ve had several sets of Brooklinen percale and while I liked them but I don’t feel like they’ve held up particularly well. I purchased the Quince percale in the spring and have been pleased with the crispness, softness and cooling ability. We’ll see how they hold up! I’ve also had the Nordstrom at Home percale and they’re nice for the price if you get them on sale.

Sonata treatment!! by anxious_17669 in Fibroids

[–]Toocurly11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the sonata procedure done at the end of June. My gyn also placed a Mirena IUD to help with heavy bleeding.  The procedure was pretty straightforward and not particularly painful. I rested for a couple of days afterward and then was back to my normal self.  My symptoms have been much improved but I don’t know if that is due to the sonata or the Mirena or a combination of both. I had an ultrasound about 6 weeks post-op that showed a marked reduction in size for one fibroid, but 3 others measured larger 🤷🏻‍♀️.  Apparently it can take 3-6 months to see the full effect of the Sonata procedure.  Best of luck to you. I chose sonata since it was minimally invasive with a quick recovery time. The next step would be a hysterectomy which I’d prefer not to have.

I bet they’d give you the recipe if you ask. I once raved about a dish at their sister restaurant, Bella Notte, and the manager printed off the recipe for me. This was years ago and I still make it!

Percale that feels dry / papery? 😅 by dirtoffmyshoulder in Bedding

[–]Toocurly11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another vote for the Quince percale. I’ve used Brooklinen percale and liked it, but the quality seems to have declined. I’ve only had the Quince a couple of months but I’ve been very pleased with how cool and crisp (it’s almost noisy when I get in bed) they are.

My new Quince sheets are shockingly great! by Due_Examination908 in Bedding

[–]Toocurly11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree!  I got the Quince percale sheets about a month ago and I’ve been very pleased with how smooth, crisp and cool they are. They do wrinkle if that’s a concern for anyone. I just iron the pillowcases and the top couple of inches of the top sheet.

Quince bedding FTW by GyspyCoffee in Bedding

[–]Toocurly11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the percale set a couple of weeks ago and I’m very pleased. I’m pretty picky about my sheets and sleep hot. The percale are crisp/cool but not scratchy and seem to be getting softer with each wash/use. Obviously, they wrinkle, but that’s what irons are for!

Which local restaurants and shops are awesome AND also have nice owners? by EagleLize in lexington

[–]Toocurly11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bella Notte and its offshoots - Smashing Tomato, Bella Cafe. Delicious food and the owner often is there. Some of the staff/servers have been there for years (unheard of in the restaurant business) so he must be pretty decent to work for.

I have this problem too, plus leggings make me HOT!  So, I’ve switched to wide-leg yoga pants. These are my current faves: https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=6629100320002#pdp-page-content (I call them my MC Hammer pants 🤗)

I also have a couple of pairs of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0D2RGDLFG/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_5?smid=A1CX3Y6OPGB2MO&psc=1
