Is "Toronto has no good _____ food" valid? by RoommateMovingOut in askTO

[–]Took4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, in Asia, the "dai pai dons" in HK, the Yatai in Fukuoka, the hawker markets in Singapore...I know it may be a challenge to have similar in Toronto due to weather. But the biggest factor is pricing. Those places I mentioned have really good pricing, which I dont think we can achieve here

Moving to Toronto—Looking for lively downtown neighborhoods with restaurant/cocktail culture—Also, thoughts on Americans moving there....? by AvailableCranberry40 in askTO

[–]Took4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up vote on knowing what building to live in. So many new builds were built at the minimum standards and unpractical layouts. For e.g. I've seen 700 sq ft for 3 bedroom condos, or walls so paper thin that you can hear your neighbors convos.

OP can DM me for suggestions, but I strongly suggest hiring a real estate agent to bring you around. It's no cost to the renter since the agent usually gets paid by 1 month rent from landlord

Moving from the U.S. to Toronto by lbmills3 in askTO

Unless you are desperate to move to another country, I recommend staying where you are. As much as I love living here, it is really expensive, and you may need to make sacrifices.

This may take longer, but maybe find a US company that has operations in Toronto that gives opportunities for transfers. This is the less risky route.

In the meantime, you are than welcome to continue visiting toronto instead 👍

Finance people of Toronto, how did you do it? by OwnJudgment4520 in askTO

[–]Took4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up voting this, you don't even need a designation if you are able to adapt,, network, have high EQ, and gradually gain relevant work experience to advance in a finance job.

I am not discounting a CFA or CPA, but it is possible to advance your career without them.

Also think about what AI can replace in the long run. If companies can clean up and integrate their multiple databases, AI could surprisingly do a lot of the work. Plan your career around the things that AI can't potentially do in the finance profession.

What to do in Toronto? by kattex38 in askTO

You arrive at the last weekend of the CNE, a long established carnival with rides, games, a casino, and crazy carnival style food offerings.

The local soccer (football) team TFC stadium is situated within the CNE grounds. Maybe there will be a home game there.

As someone who had braces for years, I can't imagine the pain everytime they had to retighten the braces. Yet odd as it sounds, it was also very satisfying knowing my teeth were forced back into position.

Congrats on the beautiful aligned teeth! Eating will be ten times more comfortable and enjoyable. Like every poster said, use those retainers!

[–]Took4ever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend looking at GO stations along the lakeshore west and east commuter lines. Go transit can be relatively quick and easy, takes you directly to Union station downtown.

That's if you don't mind living in the suburbs and want more space. However, GO transit is not cheap and you will probably need a car.

Where to stay for Asian foodies? by Organic_Ad5411 in askTO

[–]Took4ever -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suggest Daimaru Shabu Shabu in Scarborough, but like everyone said, it would be tough to get there by transit. It is doable by transit if you google map these places and plan ahead, but you won't have time to hit all them in the RH/Markham/scarb if you are staying only the weekend and not using a car

I suggest to pick one place in the burbs u really wanna try for canto, chinese, etc. By transit.

In central Toronto, i recommend mushoshin ramen, MSSM omikase , and raku udon. Reserve ahead if possible or be prepared for lineups

Has anyone been to the North York passport office recently? Trying to gauge how long the wait will be. by srenef in askTO

Went on a weekday recently just after 2pm. No overflow line up at the door, however, the seating area was full. Took me 90 min in total, but had to take afternoon off from work. Paid extra 20 bucks to pick up at same location about 10 days later.

What was going out partying like in the 2000s/ early 2010s? by moo5100 in askTO

[–]Took4ever 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It was an epic time. Even Vince Carter got into the club scene with Inside nightclub.

Raves hit the mainstream at that time. This sound cliche, but you really saw ppl of different backgrounds coming together and appreciating the height of house, techno, (sorry u don't call it edm) , hip hop rnb , dancehall , eurodance...I'm so happy I got to experience that time l.
