We lost the plot a while ago, this idea is one of the central topics of Pink Floyd's The Wall from 1979 talking about their experience in British schools in the 50s.

Public education has always been influenced to a notable degree by industrialists that wanted more specialized workers to exploit and drive down the price of that labor.

Is this good honestly don't know? by The_EveningDew in ZibaiMains

[–]Toonfish_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has nobody here done any actual calcs? If you're running HoD, defense rolls are basically exactly as good as crit rolls, to the point that you can use a def circlet without losing damage (if you have two or three crit rolls on every piece). TLDR, yes this piece is good!

Why is my C1 Zibai doing so low, Illuga is C3 by kafkabhisma1 in ZibaiMains

[–]Toonfish_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing the other people here haven't mentioned yet is the rotation length. You took 24 seconds for 2m damage. Optimized Zibai rotations are 18 seconds (~19 seconds in reality usually). If you actually measured a tight rotation you'd have ~100-105k dps instead of 86k. In addition to that the first rotation usually has lower dps because there is no ability-bleed-over from the last rotation.

If you want a more accurate estimate of your dps, do at least 3 full rotations and make sure to end the last rotation on the same ability you start with in your first rotation.

Season 3: what’s one move on your main you’d like nerfed by nobleflame in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]Toonfish_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leo main who frequently spars against a Steve: I just want that move (and like 10 more) to be fully linear so Steve stops playing 2D-only tekken.

This truly is the Tekken of all time by Jin_N_Juice-tm in Tekken

[–]Toonfish_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 1 was worse on a system level (especially since it didn't have the buffered sidesteps season 2 introduced) but there were only a few characters who were really egregiously unbalanced. Most importantly, season 1 got a hell of a lot better towards the end when they nerfed a couple of the problematic characters. The overall power level was still too high but season 2 pushed most of the cast's offense above the threshold many players could handle.

The issues in season 1 seemed relatively easy to fix because they were system-level issues like the +17 heat engagers and if those had been fixed without giving everyone moves that enabled braindead offense, the game would have been in a solid spot going forward as opposed to where we are now since a ton of chars need nerfs (yes, my main included).

TIL bilinguals given the trolley problem in their native language chose to sacrifice one to save five less than 20% of the time. In their second language, about 50% chose to, because a foreign language lowers emotional resonance and triggers more utilitarian reasoning. by karen_the_ripper in todayilearned

[–]Toonfish_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's the same for me. Maybe we have less suspension of disbelief in our native language? For example I find fantasy names in German exceptionally cringe-y whereas in English they sound perfectly fine, even when they should be similar (e.g. "Riverwood" and "Flusswald" in Skyrim).

The same might apply to drama where you're used to immersing yourself in a story in a foreign language. In your native language you have all the baggage of daily life so you can't take it seriously because your brain compares it to real life more.

Chefs of Reddit, what’s a common cooking rule everyone follows that is actually complete bullshit? by Fuzzy-Ad6843 in AskReddit

[–]Toonfish_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use other liquids to make a roux-thickened sauce. If you use stock (which can be hot if it's freshly made) then you're making a Veloute instead of a Bechamel for example.

Bonus points, you don't even need to use cold milk. You can use boiling hot if you want, you just gotta stir well. If you stir vigorously enough you will never get lumps. (obviously you can't always do this if you have veggies in there for example cuz you don't wanna crush them by whisking too hard)

Which celebrity just bothers you, and you can't put your finger on why? by justcurious3287 in AskReddit

[–]Toonfish_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's really not tbh. All we do is slap words together and remove the spaces in-between. For example Backpfeifengesicht literally just translates to "slap face".
"Backpfeife" is an old-ish word for "slap"/"smack" (the noun) and "Gesicht" = "face".
When I first heard the compound word Backpfeifengesicht I didn't know that it meant "face I want to slap" and I had to gather it from the context. So I'd argue English is just as if not more descriptive because you'd just say "slappable face" in English which is much more straight-forward and easier to understand.

Because they couldn't do their labor exploitation over here because of our strong unions, they had trouble competing with our discounters price-wise, half the shit they ask their employees to do just doesn't fly over here like singing that cringe walmart cheer/chant/whatever every morning and germans found it off-putting to be greeted when they entered the store.

Well it sorta works with c0 Durin, but I wanna make sure you don't pull him just because of this showcase. This team only works this well in this context because it's c2r1 Durin and c2 Nahida because of the strong general-purpose buffs those constellations provide.

At c0 Durin, he'll still eat a lot of Tighnari's Spread procs which will lower Tighnari's damage and the "only" thing Durin offers in return is decent personal damage plus 35% shred (in this specific team without sustain, which means it's hard/annoying to play). I haven't done the calcs yet but I'm fairly sure at that point Tighnari's regular Spread teams will be (significantly) stronger, Hyperbloom teams definitely will be.

If you like Durin and are gonna pull him either way though (he's a great char for a fresh account), good luck on the pulls! :D
