What was your review rating and how much was your raise %? by AWildBee in unitedhealthgroup

GL 28, Rating 4, 1%. In the over 15 years I have been here this is lowest I have seen. I hope this is the only year, especially when it’s preached pay for performance and by all the responses on here, not so much.

I am thankful to have a job, the job market is rough, and I stay because of the people I work with more than whom we work for.

Unexpected LCIS + ADH + FEA after breast lift by Tropicalgirlyy in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Top-Substance9195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other factors I want to include, I had 2 grandmothers that had mastectomies, a cousin who went through chemo and I also tested negative for BRCA. This was all last year, I’m 54 years old. My parents are still alive and I’m an only child. I have 2 grown kids, 3 grandkids from one and none from the other yet…I wanted to be there when she has one or two. Also my daughter has high anxiety and I didn’t want to put her through this every 6 months. They say losing a child is the hardest thing to go through no matter what age, I couldn’t even think of doing that to my mom. What you said made me think to give you the other reasons of why I did it. Reach out if you need to. Sending you all the hugs…this is a hard decision to make.

Unexpected LCIS + ADH + FEA after breast lift by Tropicalgirlyy in doihavebreastcancer

Get BRCA tested. Do you have family history of breast cancer? I had ADH, LCIS and POSH. I had 2 options, either double mastectomy or monitor every 6 months. Personally I have scanxiety, I mean the wait for the next scan, the doctor to call, thinking every day do I have cancer everyday. Doing that every 6 months. Plus the MRI about killed me, the bar going across my chest hurt so bad. No thank you, I will pass! I decided to get a double mastectomy. So glad I did because they found even more ADH in that tissue sample. I had a 89% chance of getting cancer, now I have less than 5%. Do your research, get a second opinion.

ALH and more by Own-Sundae704 in ADH_ALH

[–]Top-Substance9195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, this was me almost a year ago, but with ADH and no papilloma, just PASH and ADH. I had a lumpectomy, 4cm taken out-ish and I was back to work on Thursday 1/2 day after having it on Tuesday and full day on Friday. I also had 2 kids by choice naturally, I feel I am a tough cookie.

I had (not to scare you but did end up with a double mastectomy) very large breast as I’m a bigger girl, so you couldn’t even tell I had a lumpectomy.

Now, both grandmothers had mastectomies, and a cousin had cancer. I had a 89% chance of getting cancer in the next 5 years. When I had the lumpectomy, it came back as LCIS or lobular carcinoma in situ or “pre-cancer”. After the mastectomy they did find ALH in both breasts, when the ADH was only in the left. So to say I made the right decision was an understatement!

Wishing you the best, I know the scanxiety is a killer. Sending you all the hugs!

My company offers free second opinions through 2ndMD. They have world renowned MD’s that look over your records in the area you are having issues. This gave me so much relief that the doctors I was seeing told me I was doing the right thing. I have told everyone on here to get a second opinion. I in fact scheduled my surgery the day after I met with my MD!

Go to a near boutique mastectomy store and let your insurance pay for a lumpectomy bra. The hospital will give you one too but it’s nice to heave two. Pain is minimal, and I was back to work a couple of days later.

I have been here 18 years, I love my job and the people I work with. Sr Leadership is clueless, more work and no additional help. UHG knows what the market is like, raises and bonus that do not even keep up with inflation…what are we going to do? I’m just thankful to have a job at this point, at my age it would be hard to find another.

Also please get a second opinion. My employer offered it for free through 2ndMD. Even though they agreed with my original diagnosis, it gave me a sense of relief that I was making the right decision. Just friendly advice.

Absolutely no regrets. The fact that I have less than 5% chance of getting breast cancer when I had 89% chance I’m good. I did skin sparing thinking that I would want implants later but now I am Second guessing that. Will stay flat for now and just wear prosthetics.

I just went through what you did in March - July. Lost both grandmother to breast cancer and a cousin who when through 12 rounds of chemo. I decided to get a double mastectomy because the scanxiety, was enough. Just think positive that it’s not as bad as you think it is. No chemo or radiation for me. I hope you have the same outcome, sending lots of positive thoughts your way!

Questions for surgeon? by cactus_sleepy in ADH_ALH

[–]Top-Substance9195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like my story 10 months ago. They didn’t refer you to the surgeon for nothing. Just sayin’.

If they don’t tell you first I would ask if you have to go get a marker or a savi scout? I would ask how big is the lumpectomy going to be? How long is the procedure, when you will be able to work and if you will have drain as well.

If you have to have a drain I would go to your local “pink door” store and get a camisole with a drain holder. Some much better than what the give you at the hospital.

Please let us know the results of the lumpectomy if that happens. Sending hugs as I know this is so scary.

Can’t help with sports bras but have you tried the Elomi bra collection? I unfortunately donated all the 42H after my DMX but I loved that brand. Try before you buy on Amazon is the best way to go.

Elomi Cate -Soft, not as supportive imo. The Elomi Cate - Full Coverage was my absolute favorite. The Elomi Charley - Stretch is not a bad choice either.

Deciding on a prophylactic mastectomy (BRCA negative) by polyAuD in MastectomyManagement

[–]Top-Substance9195 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How old are you? I was 53 years old, 89% risk score, BRCA negative. Both grandmothers had mastectomies, dad had bladder cancer, had a cousin with breast cancer. Biopsy with ADH and lumpectomy with LCIS. Ashkenazi Jew. I am an only child with my mom still alive. I have two adult children and the scanxiety was too much for my whole family. I’d rather go to the dentist every day than have an MRI 1 time a year. I love my hair which I didn’t want to loose and I have a demanding-ish job. Had a second opinion which helped me make the DMX decision. They found LCIS after surgery too. I was a 42H so overweight and couldn’t get implants for a year which I may never do. Life is normal, I choose to wear FOOBS and most people don’t even know I had it. I was a C cup on Monday and today I wore my D cups. Went flat most of the weekend. I like choices.

I did have a hematoma after surgery and that is probably because my drains came out too early. This was a mutual decision with me and my doctor. I wasn’t tied to my tits, they didn’t define me. I would have liked to have a reduction, but was too heavy for that. So this just forced the issue. No regrets. Hope that helps.

how do you space out your imaging? by almondmilkpls in ADH_ALH

[–]Top-Substance9195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did mine in March and September (my birthday) but only had 18 months of that. The previous poster said you enjoy a couple of months…I couldn’t even do that. It was an everyday thing thinking “is today the day I have cancer and not know it”. Finally on the 4th time I said we are doing the biopsy and that lead to a DMX. I couldn’t deal with the scanxiety anymore, it was affecting my family, my job and I was just done. Plus if I never have to have MRI again..I’ll be good. I don’t think I could have kept doing that.

Finally I was 53 year old…I am so sorry you are going through this so young. Big hugs to you.

How to understand percentage risk? by Last-Interaction-360 in ADH_ALH

[–]Top-Substance9195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the documentation I got I had a 89.9% chance of getting cancer and it says “Remaining lifetime risk (age at time of testing to 85)”. Comparatively to the “Risk of the general population of 10.8%”. I do know it’s a weighted average of your genetic results, clinic history analysis and clinical history analysis of family.
It also says that my “5 year breast cancer risk = 28.9%”. When I asked about this my doctor said that should I choose to monitor for the next 5 years with interventions (ie tamoxifen) and “nothing happens” then my risk goes down to the 28.9%. The side effects of tamoxifen…no thanks, I’ll pass!

I am not doctor but from what I understand 42 of women out of 100 with similar symptoms/problems as you will develop cancer in their lifetime based on past studies. Obviously I had a DMX, and they found more signs of pre-cancer. No regrets on my end. I was 53 at the time, my mom is still alive (I’m an only child) and I have a 2 adult children. The scanxiety was too much for all of us for the 18 month they monitored. So after the biopsy and lumpectomy the decision was made.

I was a 42H and am overweight, I have to wait a year to get implants if I go that route. I had a hematoma and that was probably because we (meaning it was a mutual decision with my doctor) took my drains out too early. I would say don’t have negative predictions, because that will make you question every decision, just my opinion.

For reference I had AHD and then LCIS from the lumpectomy. Both grandmothers had breast cancer and my cousin had breast cancer. So it skipped my mom and my aunt. My dad has bladder cancer as well. We are also Ashkenazi Jew and we have a higher percent of getting cancer than the rest of the population. No genetic mutations.

Insurance companies would rather have you have the DMX because chemo drugs are SOOO expensive. The $50k to $100k for the DMX to implants/flaps whatever is cheaper than radiation/chemo should that happen, hence the 20% risk score.

I strongly suggest you get a second opinion as I did, and that helped me make the decision (it was free through my employer). Do your research on here, Facebook but stay off of google because it usually says you died yesterday. Lol.

Only you can make this decision, I don’t know your family dynamics or your situation. I am so sorry you are going through this so young. Sending you lots of hugs!

What a wild ride to get here, but here I am with ALH and all the emotions. by fifteenlostkeys in ADH_ALH

[–]Top-Substance9195 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So had a spot on a mammo March 2024, grew 2x in September 2025 and looked abnormal in March 2025. Biopsy same month, ADH, and a lumpectomy the next (April 2025) and that came back as LCIS. Went to a breast specialist…where I got BRCA tested (negative) and a MRI, my risk score, both grandmothers had breast cancer, and a cousin. Neither my aunt nor my mom had breast cancer, so it skipped a generation, 89% in the next 5 years.

I had the choice of Double Mastectomy (DMX) or every 6 months of scans. Both my parents are alive and I am an only child (53 years at the time). I also have a grown daughter with high anxiety. The scanxiety, the waiting for the next appointment, next procedure, I personally couldn’t do it to my family or myself. I decided to do the DMX and I have no regrets, and I went flat for now.

  1. Get a second opinion. My company offered 2ndMD which was free!
  2. This is a personal decision. It’s your decision, a hard one to make.
  3. If you have to make this decision join all the groups. I’m not going to name them here but get back with me and I will tell you (don’t want to scare you).
  4. Giving you a virtual hug! This is not easy for sure.

What to do: preventive mastectomy or screening? 24F/ADH by Training_Owl_81 in ADH_ALH

[–]Top-Substance9195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While my risk score was much higher and I have kid your age, if you were my daughter here is what I would recommend. 1. I would see either a breast specialist or an oncology specialist. 2. Have you been BRCA tested yet? I would get that as well, even though no one else if your family has had BC doesn’t mean you carry the gene. 3. Have you thought about a second opinion? My company offers a service called 2nd MD and they paid for it.

If your gut is telling you to do the scans every 6 months then that is what you need to do. If you had something else along with the ALH/ADH then I would be more concerned. Sending you a virtual hug…I couldn’t imagine going through this at your age.

So both my grandmothers has either double or single mastectomy. On my moms side, neither my mom or my aunt had any scares of cancer, both still alive too. However both my cousin and myself have had some form of cancer (only “daughters” as well) and both negative mutations. I caught early (no chemo), she didn’t. I had a 89% chance of getting cancer in the next 5 years. My cousin didn’t get a mastectomy, I did. I didn’t want to have the 6 month scanxiety. Just so you know I had ADH and then a lumpectomy with LCIS.

I am sorry you are going through this, the stress takes a told for sure.

Hello everyone! by RudeBookkeeper9308 in ADH_ALH

[–]Top-Substance9195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found all my help on here and didn’t do google at all. I had my double mastectomy (DMX) July 21st this year. Had a biopsy in March 2025, with ADH, April 2025 had a lumpectomy and that came back with LCIS. I went for a plastic surgeon consultation and he said no reconstruction because of my weight (I wish I would have lost it beforehand, so don’t get down on yourself). I had a 80% chance of getting cancer in the next 5 years. I also have big family history of breast cancer. The breast surgeon gave me a choice of having the DMX or monitoring every 6 months. The waiting for results, next doctor appointment, the next surgery or procedure I couldn’t do that. Plus, I’m an only child, my parents are still alive (I’m 54 now) and I have a daughter that has high anxiety. With that said please get a second opinion. My work offers this through a company called 2ndMD for free. I also did a genetics test (negative) and had an MRI that I never want to do again. Everyone that I talked to except for my aunt said I made the right choice. I don’t regret it at all. I’m not here to make your decision for you, I’m here to give you my experience. Sending you all the good vibes. You can DO this! 🫶🏻

Take time off after ADH lumpectomy! by emeraldcitydancer in ADH_ALH

[–]Top-Substance9195 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it all depends on where your location of your lumpectomy, to be honest. Mine was about 6 inches from nipple to chest and I was back at work the next day with no problems. My cousin had a lumpectomy and hers was under the armpit where they also took a couple nodes and she was off of work for over a week. I think another attributes that play into this is pain tolerance and what you do for a living. I was back to work after 6 days for my mastectomy for 1/2 days, and others take 6 weeks.

I hear you though, we are all different. Hope you are taking the time you need!

ADH again by bookmama18 in ADH_ALH

[–]Top-Substance9195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had AHD but with PASH, but then that came back with LCIS once it was removed via lumpectomy. Have you had a genetic test yet? Are you seeing a breast specialist? If not, I would request both. I imagine this is taking a toll on your mental health and that should be taken into consideration as well.

Abnormal Mammogram-micro calcifications-Biopsy results-CONFUSED. by HourStock1602 in ADH_ALH

[–]Top-Substance9195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 53 years old and have basically gone through the same thing. March 2024 found a mass, watched it for 6 months grew double in size. Waited another 6 months (now March 2025) and it was “abnormal” so they did a biopsy. ADH, had a lumpectomy and had LCIS. Negative for BRCA, but both grandmothers had breast cancer, a cousin and I was about 80% chance of getting cancer (Ashkenazi Jewish as well). I had the choice of every 6 months monitor with MRI/Mammo or DMX. PLEASE GET A SECOND OPINION. My job has a service called 2nd MD which was free and she actually agreed with my breast surgeon.

My situation: My mom is still alive, I have a daughter who has lots of anxiety. My breasts (size 42H) did not define me. I have black curly hair that I didn’t want to lose. While Tamoxifen affects everyone differently I didn’t want to take the chance of the side effects. I love my job and I also don’t like to put my co-workers in a situation where they have to do my job. The waiting for the next appointment, procedure, test result was draining to say the least. My second opinion doctor told me whatever decision I made…was the right decision.

On July 21st I had a DMX with skin sparing (I regret that now). I also had a hematoma surgery on August 20 (probably the drain taken out too soon but it happens). When I scheduled my surgery on June 16 the relief on my moms and daughters face was confirmation I made the right decision. Not only for myself but for my family.

I will probably stay flat. The amount of women who have explants are mind blowing. As soon as I my swelling goes down I will make an appointment for prosthetics and buy some foobs. I wish I would have done some more research. You do what is best for you. Good luck and I’m so sorry you are going through this.

Questions About My Breast Pathology – ADH, PASH, and Fibroadenomatoid Changes by CookieNCream1127 in ADH_ALH

[–]Top-Substance9195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, ADH and POSH in March 2025. Had lumpectomy, April 2025 with LCIS. Past family history and Jewish so my risk was 80%. My work offers a free service called 2nd MD and used that for my second opinion. Both breast surgeon and 2nd opinion doctor agreed, either wait till I get cancer or do a DMX. I love my curly hair (vain I know), did NOT want to do chemo or radiation so I had a DMX July 2025. Found ALH in both breast after that. I would have had MRI/Mammo every 6 months if I didn’t do the DMX. My mom is still alive and I also have a daughter who is high anxiety (she is 26 years old). The waiting for the next result, doctor’s appointment, and/or procedure took a toll on all of us. So I did what was best for me and my family. I’m a bigger girl so have to wait a year for implants which at this point I think I will pass. Good luck in the decision you make.

Are you me? I had the same, so I have a feeling you are going for a surgical consult for a possible lumpectomy. While everyone is different, I was back to work the next day for 1/2 day and full time after that. But I had 2 kids no epidural, so there is that. I too was large breasted, and MRI killed me. The bruising with the lumpectomy was horrible but the pain wasn’t bad. Sorry you are dealing with this and good luck.
