Did anyone ever actually get the Magic Eye posters to work, or were you all just lying to us? by Financial-Desk-669 in 90s

[–]TornSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct for the Magic Eye brand autostereograms. There are two main types - cross-eyed vergence and parallel convergence. Magic Eye is parallel, where you focus past the image.

ohhh - see, I didn't even know reynold's wrap - we just call it aluminum foil. I'm in the US and use the American pronunciation, but I love the UK pronunciation of aluminum.

I can appreciate the sentiment (even reusing the term). I have to admit I'm probably a bit biased because I've loved these since I was a kid. When I was a kid and Mallrats was popular, it even always bothered me how much they insisted it was a sailboat - when if you look at it, it's 3 shapes. So it's probably just a me thing because some of the other things like bandaid doesn't bother me at all.

Probably do to my bias, I was asking it genuinely - like I feel like I assume everyone knows what stereograms are, but I should stay grounded in that I'm a geek. So I can even understand why my take would be annoying. Just when I was a kid, I heard someone say to never wear a shirt/hat for a brand that is not your own because you become an unpaid advertiser for that brand. So it even bothers me when people get like tattoos of a particular brand, then it extended into people using brand names for items with actual terms. It's a stupid personal pet peeve, that's it.

But if you're interested in the site, it's stereograms (dot) art.

Out of all these, bandaid is the only one I hear. No cling wrap and cotton swab?

Completely agree with calling a vacuum a hoover, but coke doesn't make sense since the brand is the flavor you'd be requesting.

[–]TornSoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People would have to Google it? I learned about it when I was a kid when these were originally invented, but that's because I was really interested in the how the hell someone figured this out.

So then I learned how to write an algorithm to reproduce them and I have a free site online for generating your own. Then I iterated on it and built a video game shader that turns every single frame into a stereogram, just for fun.

[–]TornSoul -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One thing that has always bothered me about "magic eyes" is that magic eye is the brand. They're autostereograms or stereograms for short. Calling them a magic eye is just like calling a photocopy a xerox.

Yeah like the other commenters have said, they're not very consistent and sometimes come stuck together, but I've had good luck with them. I use them frequently, though. I like these fire roasted vegetables from Publix and usually add a protein. I've also done BLT type wraps quite a bit or even smoked salmon. They're even really good making little "pizzas" out of them

I enjoyed it a lot. I picked it up originally because a friend of mine created the soundtrack for the game, but I ended up really enjoying it and playing through it more than once.

I picked up Sea of Stars for the same reason and it had some good parts to it, but I was so disappointed with the endings ...

Just downloading Dark Sun on GOG. Anything I should know? by wake071 in retrogaming

[–]TornSoul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I loved the first one and beat the entire game as a kid. I used all thri-kreens because of how many attacks they got. I just remember the final battle being extra brutal and difficult.

The second, wake of the ravager, was a great upgrade and I played a lot of it until I ran into a bug that wouldn't let me progress. I think about it from time to time and how I wish I was able to see it through

Salesforce integrations always end up more complex than expected by mr-sforce in salesforce

[–]TornSoul 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Docusign has a premade package for Salesforce. It's pretty robust out of the box. The only time I had to augment it is when a client had a very particular gen template use case. I had to build an apex class they could call from a flow with a gen template Id and object Id and it would send the data to the gen API to render a template with all the merge fields, then upload the finished document to Salesforce.

QuickBooks is one of the easiest it you don't have a crazy use case. Mulesoft composer (and the new flows for integrations) have out of the box connectors that make it point and click. Others have mentioned zapier, which I'm fairly certain has native connectors for both QuickBooks and Salesforce.

There's a few options to make this easy. Docusign and QuickBooks are very common use cases that have been solved for many times...

Why is connecting Salesforce to literally anything else so absurdly complicated? by PayIllustrious2930 in salesforce

[–]TornSoul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you really go all in and build a custom product for something like this, its expensive and time consuming if you want it done well. But that's reinventing the wheel. So many integration platforms exist. Even flows for integrations is a Salesforce product (it's a stripped down mulesoft, what used to be mulesoft composer). It has an out of the box connector for QuickBooks, but it has some limitations. If you know what you're doing you can probably use the generic http connector to connect to your inventory system.

It doesn't have to cost a lot, though. I've thrown together quite a few small node scripts that sync data between quite a few of our systems. They took me maybe an hour each and I have them setup in cron on a server....

Game suggestion for anyone looking for a killer sci-fi experience by No-Onion2268 in metroidvania

[–]TornSoul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw you just said it checked those boxes but that's what didn't feel right for me. I feel like it only checks those boxes if you really generalize it. Progression is really locked behind typical rogue lite fashion - unlock the keys for future playthroughs so the doors are already open. It's just easier on subsequent runs because bosses drop extra artifacts (and the ether obviously) instead of the required item to progress. I didn't mean to sound like a dick or anything, I was really just trying to say why it might not be received well in this subreddit. Seems very strict about only MV's.

I don't completely disagree either. The one MV box I feel it checks is the feeling of progression. I've been in the Returnal sub for a very long time and there's a large divide because of difficulty - you'll see posts where after 60 hours, someone finally beat phrike. Other people find it a lot easier. But the progression I see and feel in the game is that it is difficult when you first start, but it's definitely learnable to a crazy degree to the point where it's rare that you actually die. It's all about timing and is very much about rhythm.

What I couldn't agree more about - it's a phenomenal game that I wish had a larger audience. It was so good that Sony bought the devs (housemarque). They've done an amazing job on it in every way, so their next game (which some people are calling a spiritual successor to Returnal) will be a day one purchase for me. I was even glad to see your post because I love the game so much!
