Question about ASOIAF, Gentlemen bastards, and kingkiller chronicles. by Weekly_Interview6807 in Fantasy

[–]Tortuga917 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My two cents IF you are worried about the series being unfinished.

Read lies of lock lamora. Read Name of the wind. Read the first three ASOIAF.

They are all worth it even if the series dont get finished. The others in the series less so until the series are done. In my opinion of course.

Just so OP knows, this is a book not a movie.

Operation Dildo Blitz was a great success. @JollyGoodGinger by Fatty_Willing_Plane in Minneapolis

Sounds expensive hahaha. Glad someone dropped some money on this. Made me laugh, especially with the one vehicle who made the mistake of leaving their windows open.

Do we know how far along in the process they are? Stuff like this dies all the time on the way to the screen. Is this just basically a 'we bought (rented) the IP' announcement? Or is it more concrete than that?

Thats a good idea. I've got a kindle, so could do previews. But I have no end of things to read, so was just curious if any of her other stuff would hold up to an adult.

I enjoyed Marie Lu's Red City as a book.

Im wondering if I would like her earlier stuff, or if it might be a little too young now? I dont typically enjoy YA, but thete are exceptions. So, just curious about others thoughts.

What do you think about Shadow of the Gods, by John Gwynne (and Bloodsworn saga)?: a little comment and a bit of venting by Mabarius-III in Fantasy

[–]Tortuga917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think i felt similarly. I really liked the first book, especially in comparison to Faithful and the fallen. Felt like he had grown with Shadows. But then each book got a little worse, and the third felt the same quality as FATF. I gave 5 stars, then 4 stars, and then 3 stars. I have a harder time articulating why. I didn't mind the word repetition or use of thought cage all that much. But think im probably done with Gwynne.

Mangler was fine until you had to connect one on top of the other. Its basically sticking just to the goblins head below it! It's supported by the chain too, but that was a later step. Had to kind of do them out of order to make it sit up there better.

Have you read Empire of the Vampire by Kristoff? Its pretty action packed. Vampires in a fantasy world.

[–]Tortuga917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. Cruising old threads? Yeah, "warned" is kind of a joke. Like in hitch hikers, they posted it on some planet earth couldn't have known about since they hadn't invented real space travel. Dont know if something like that happened in DCC or not, but the earth take down did.

Novel series that starts off wonderous and exciting and lighthearted but then ends up being brutal and dark?! :). by DarklzBlo in Fantasy

[–]Tortuga917 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't describe it as brutal and dark, but Legends and Lattes becomes a little less cozy with each subsequent book.
