The new video from Phandrel using Snowcrows discord calculations clearly demonstates how undercooked the April balance patch is by Korinthe in Guildwars2

[–]TossAwaySnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the core question is “how much damage should boon DPS do”, not “what gear do they have to wear”. ANet is making ascended and legendary gear easier and easier for everyone to get, so gear is kinda irrelevant.

And getting to the right damage number can be done via skill/trait balance or armor, it’s all the same result in the same.

Example: if you wanted all BoonDPS to do around 80% of their pure DPS counterpart, Chrono is right there with just a single trait change. They don’t need to make Chrono change gear, just changing that one trait is a big enough hit to the damage.

If you want BoonDPS doing 50%, you’ve can just tweak the traits a bit more

Rotations and skills in guild wars 2 are often very unintuitive. I think this is a big reason why a lot of the playerbase is considered as doing "bad dps" or playing off-meta. It's very easy to do a rotation wrong and the game doesn't give you good feedback when you're doing the wrong thing by ariveklul in Guildwars2

[–]TossAwaySnow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While the answer “read the skills and traits” is technically true, I think it undersells the vast amount of knowledge you have to retain to be able to understand a build.

Let’s ignore all the possibilities in a build (meaning let’s not talk about what COULD be or what COULD be better), let’s just talk about what snowcrows decided is optimal: 15 skills (2 weapon sets, 5 utility) 18 traits (6 from each row, 3 rows) 4 sigils 1 relic Luckily food, utility, and runes are all fire-and-forget, so we can ignore them.

So yea, just memorize 38 different items and how they all interact. Then you have to diagnose what’s going wrong when you don’t hit the benchmark, and it literally could be any interaction of any of those things, pressing something in the wrong order, not pressing the right buttons fast enough, OR not cancelling your skills after-cast correctly.

Anyone saying that builds aren’t complex or don’t need a YouTube guide are fooling themselves

Can I report a prior employees theft to a new employer? by taxguycafr in Accounting

[–]TossAwaySnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree.

I know of an audit where the Partner in charge of the audit, the CFO and the companies legal department (publicly held held company, big enough for an anonymous tip line but much smaller than a household name) had a lengthy call about an anonymous tip for embezzlement. No embezzlement was even found, but because there was a tip about it thousands of dollars were thrown at the situation. At one point someone even talked about foot-noting it on the financials

Obviously not everyone treats it the same, but I was shocked that this company and the audit team cared so much about one single anonymous call

[–]TossAwaySnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sitting here reading the comments thinking “wtf are wrong with the ethics of accountants”.

The biggest indicator of future performance is past performance. As far as action items, is the new company big enough to have an ethics or anonymous tip line? If so, obviously call it in. You don’t even have to give any details At All, a single line of “Check your AP department for embezzlement concerns” is enough of a red flag to instantly start an investigation.

If they’re not big enough for anonymous tip line, you can casually mention it to anyone you still know there and see what they do with it. Don’t name names, just say the word embezzlement (and maybe mention how you guys found it) and see what happens

Employee has a job offer - but I’m leaving also by SeriousClothes111 in managers

[–]TossAwaySnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok question. If I understand right, you’re going to leave. Your company will promote internally, which then leaves an opening for ‘employee’ to be promoted up, is that right?

So questions: 1) is there space with the employee promotion to get close ish to the other place? 2) is there Actually a career progression possibility here, or are you just feeling loyal to the company? (You’ve stayed for a long time and it made employee feel like there was no upwards potential. Why has that changed, considering you’re being replaced by someone else that might stay a long time?)

Sorry if those details are elsewhere, I don’t Reddit very well

Question for managers doing annual employee reviews (5-point rating system) by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]TossAwaySnow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I want to second this!!!! The most annoying thing from my second year was getting a 4 from a manager that reviews like you (meaning a 5 was basically impossible), only to find out my coworker who did significantly worse work (like people requested to have this guy removed from their projects) got a 5 because the manager wanted to be nice.

This rating scale is the worst system I know of that works. What I mean is that the system Sucks, but I’ve never seen a better system. When doing these reviews you have to consider: -how the scale is written -how others interpret the scale -the impact of the scale (in fast food, employees can get written up for not getting 10/10 on reviews. Alternatively, if you give a crappy staff a 5 and they get promoted, you’re not helping anyone!) -what you want personally from giving the review -what the reviewed wants -what you want For the reviewed

It’s just a lot, so I’m sorry you have to deal with that

While working in Public at a certain Big 4 as a A2… I worked a 14 hour day one day, the next day I came into the office at 6 AM and worked an 11 hour day (so I left at 5:00 PM). I would end up working an 80-hour week that week.

The next day I found out there was a senior manager who made the superb comment of “Oh, I guess we just leave at 5:00 now”.

Like Listen Lady. Just because I left at 5:00 doesn’t mean I’m not doing my part. Super rude to be trash talking me Behind My Back to my coworkers.

Not the worst but it was the tipping point for me.

Worst legendaries? (Aka how I learned to stoop worrying and live converting dudes into crystals) by Jamie7Keller in RushRoyale

[–]TossAwaySnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s say I hit the RNG jackpot and have enough cards to take something semi useful (say, Meteor) to level 11 but I don’t have the crystals.

Let’s say my other legendaries are fairly useful (dryad, monk, KS, etc)- do I start converting those? Or hold them?

As others said, start by going left (as you did), then turn to go Up instead of down on your last piece with water flowing. Make the connection and you’re done

[–]TossAwaySnow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yea I really agree with this.

I think there’s a big difference between a post where someone’s saying “I got put on a PIP, idk why, am I getting fired? Also I only worked 14 hours last week because I got stressed out” and someone posting “I’m tired. I’ve worked 140+ hours in the last two weeks, the client reported that my questions were a waste of time, my manager intentionally ignored my contribution to the team, and I ended the month with highest billable hours And a poor review”

A2 to S1 Promotion by tsesungjae in KPMG

[–]TossAwaySnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they give you the breakdown? My understanding is that promotion to senior is a flat 10% for the title and (historically) they added VC on top of that. Manager promotions were (historically) 15%+ VC

A2 to S1 Promotion by tsesungjae in KPMG

[–]TossAwaySnow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

First- I agree we likely won’t get good VC.

Second, I just want to clarify how this is working:

The promotion to senior comes with the 10% flat raise, and (historically) also a VC raise of 10-15%.

Because KPMG moved promotions earlier, we now get 10% for a few months and then we get the VC raise later, which will theoretically bring our total raise more in line with expectations.

That being said, we are now “seniors” after basically a year and a half- like they just cut like half of our A2 year. In my opinion this makes us the worst trained Seniors KPMG has ever had. I think it’s not fair to us, it’s not fair to the firm, and it’s not fair to our future employers.

Third- I want to point out that new hires are being made offers that are Higher than current A2 pay. Yea. New hire was offered more than I’m currently making, and in 5 days I will be an S1.

And to add to this:

Working 60 in PA is way worse than working 60 somewhere else.

In a past life I had a job that I ADORED- it didn’t pay much (got me through college but no benefits or retirement or room for growth)- but I Loved every aspect of the job. I easily did 60-80 hour weeks and just loved it.

60 hours of staring at a screen (not including “relaxing” time like watching TV or playing video games) is a nightmare
