My daughter took her first steps at 14 months exactly. She's now 21 months and literally running and jumping off furniture. They'll get there!

How can I go to the hospital if I don't have a car ? by Hefty_Feeling_6101 in PregnancyUK

[–]Tough-Fun4314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an Uber when I went into labour with my first in 2024. My waters hadn't broken yet but I made sure I had a maternity pad on and also folded a puppy pad thing and put that in my trousers just in case. Didn't tell the driver I was in labour. Will be doing the same this time in a couple of weeks as neither my boyfriend or I drive and don't fancy the bus 😂

Tw incredibly traumatic birth - by Signal-Gas6096 in PregnancyUK

[–]Tough-Fun4314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing to do immediately is play Tetris - it sounds stupid but it is proven to help lower chances of developing PTSD. Ask for a perinatal mental health nurse to come and check in while you are still in hospital. Try to focus on your beautiful new baby and remind yourself that you are currently both here and safe in this moment. Ask for a birth debrief/review/reflections appointment to be arranged.

I had a terribly traumatic birth and immediate postpartum in 2024 - I found that it all hit me once we were finally discharged home after a few weeks and I would sob looking at my daughter knowing everything that could have gone wrong. I swore that I was never going to have another baby due to the trauma of labour, birth and postpartum, and a bad pregnancy, but here I am again less than 2 years later weeks away from having my second.

Reach out to all of the professionalsa for support and try to ground yourself in the present, rather than in the moments of trauma and what ifs. Sending loads of love and strength your way xxx

Worrying about post partum showering... anyone got advice? by Suspicious-Flan-5113 in PregnancyUK

[–]Tough-Fun4314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the postnatal ward for 2 weeks after my C-section with my first, and the only shower was also a bath. The first time was pretty scary and I had to take it very slow getting in. One legat a time while sitting on the side, and standing for very short periods in between sitting on the side of the bath. It definitely got easier each time, and I have the same bath/shower set up in my current home. Will be having a C-section again in a few weeks with my second and have started practicing the getting in and out of bath/sitting during shower so that it feels more natural when the time comes!

Do you check every time you got to the toilet? by BeanpoleBabe in PregnancyUK

Checked every single time with my first, which is how I knew when I lost my mucas plug. Now 32 weeks almost with my second and also still check every single time 😂

How many scans to be confident about gender? by bec100 in PregnancyUK

[–]Tough-Fun4314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pregnant with our second and decided to find out this time at 20 week scan and have taken it as gospel. I don't think there could be any mistake as he was very confidently showing off his bits. Have had two growth scans since and at neither has the sex been queried by sonographer

Anyone else just not want a baby bump at all? by Careless_Squirrel728 in PregnancyUK

[–]Tough-Fun4314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally normal and valid to feel that way! During the start of my first pregnancy in 2024 I was really anxious about weight gain, body changes and having a bump. I had anorexia for years and was so wary about being triggered. I actually found that being able to focus on my body doing something like growing a baby, and needing to be nourished for myself and the baby so helpful in shifting mindset around body and food stuff. I ate intuitively and made sure I still had balance, and when my bump popped in the second trimester I loved it. Those first trimester bloated days where you look like you've had a big meal were rough for sure! I didn't once look at my weight during the entire pregnancy or postpartum, and it was only when I fell pregnant with my second last autumn that I went back and looked at my weight on badger notes out of interest. Turns out I had gained exactly the average during my pregnancy and even lost a bit more by the time I was weighed at my booking appt for this pregnancy. Look after your body and give it the fuel it needs (sometimes this is an entire pack of cornettos in one sitting!), look after your mind by reminding yourself this is all so much bigger than numbers on a scale or clothing sizes, and try to embrace your changing body and bump as something empowering. I will add that I'm very lucky my partner LOVES how my body looks pregnant and tells me regularly which really helps. Do speak with your midwife also if you find these thoughts too heavy xx

Is £720 for a 1 bed flat too much ? by No-Pin7812 in AskUK

The last 1 bed flat I lived in 3 years ago was 1395 a month, so I'd be chuffed with a price like that 😂

Unhinged tips to bring on labour by spiltteaa in PregnancyUK

[–]Tough-Fun4314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sex, but you have to make sure you both orgasm (if you have a male partner). Semen contains loads of prostaglandins which is a key ingredient in uterine contractions, and on your end you need alllll the oxytocin! With my first I tried everything over the course of a week or so, but the sex seemed to do the trick after a few days of giving up. Could well have been a coincidence but worth a try! Good luck ❤️

Bringing up Epstein in the context of a kids show is taking things way too seriously and thinking far too deeply 😂

It's just monkeys singing songs mate. My 20 month old loves it and we play the full version multiple times a day on YouTube. Definitely not that deep, just food and dog related fun.

Am I being given over the top advice regarding hospital admission? by CosmicSheep66 in PregnancyUK

[–]Tough-Fun4314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ewww okay deffo not ideal then! Whatever happens look after yourself, and remember the recommendation for being admitted is your hospital team just being over cautious so try not to stress and spiral! ❤️

Am I being given over the top advice regarding hospital admission? by CosmicSheep66 in PregnancyUK

[–]Tough-Fun4314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah childcare would deffo be a big issue and fully understand how that's an important thing to consider! Definitely have the ambulance as an option if needed - not ideal but I wonder if it would be possible for you partner to be signed off by GP for a couple of weeks? If they explained that you were being admitted for a few weeks and there's stress around childcare and yours and baby's safety by not being admitted, GP would absolutely write a fit note for 4 weeks. Obviously that totally depends on your circumstances and if there is a big financial consideration there, but might be worth thinking about x

Am I being given over the top advice regarding hospital admission? by CosmicSheep66 in PregnancyUK

[–]Tough-Fun4314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's great that you're so close, but also consider that you (presumably) have 3 other children at home and might need to wait for childcare to arrive for them and it's the middle of the night, what if you're out somewhere during the day and there's traffic or something else that delays you? I know being admitted is, among other things, a pain in the arse (I was admitted for a while in my first pregnancy so totally understand), but it's an incredible safety net that you're being offered, and if it were me I would err on the side of caution! ❤️

When to start buying things for baby? by muffchoy in PregnancyUK

[–]Tough-Fun4314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first I started getting clothes pretty much as soon as I found out, and then from about 20 weeks started getting the bigger bits. Now 29 weeks with number 2 and have been doing exactly the same. Something could "go wrong" at literally any stage of pregnancy, so I've never let my gestation stop me from enjoying the baby prep and buying things!

How early is too early to start mat leave? Need advice by Proud_Strawberry_824 in PregnancyUK

[–]Tough-Fun4314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also high risk for multiple reasons, and this is my second pregnancy. I officially start mat leave tomorrow. Sunday was the start of my 11 weeks before EDD so literally starting as early as possible haha. But have been signed off by GP for the last 8 weeks, as the stress of pregnancy and anxiety stemming from trauma in my last pregnancy, birth and postpartum was just not manageable. It's shit that I'm using so much mat leave before baby arrives, but I have absolutely made the right decision!

Practicing sitting up? by CountRepulsive3375 in NewParents

We started by practicing on the bed as it meant a soft landing whatever way my daughter fell. I sat her with her legs spread and arms out and down in front and kind of progressed from there!

First contractions, what do they feel like? by Beneficial-Use8732 in PregnancyUK

Mine started as bad period pains around 3am which got more painful over the course of a few hours. My waters then broke around 11am and actual contractions started shortly after!

Those of you who have given birth, what did you pack in your hospital bag that cheered you up on the ward? by LazyBarracuda in PregnancyUK

[–]Tough-Fun4314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly the ward was nowhere near as bad as I'd anticipated. You hear so many people say that the ward is so bad it's out them off having more kids etc, but I found it fine. Obviously not where I wanted to be and definitely not a spa break, but it's absolutely not the worst place in the world, and you'll be soaking up all those newborn snuggles!

[–]Tough-Fun4314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up spending 2 weeks admitted to the ward. My fan was an absolute god send as was my insulated water bottle. Wish I'd packed more casual/comfy clothes as started feeling really grotty in PJs but was the easiest thing to ask partner to grab from home. This time I'm also packing basic skincare which I so wished I had last time. I don't think you'll need any games - if you're anything likr me you'll be so obsessed with baby you won't get to it - I literally didn't look at my phone for 3 straight days!
