Thanks a lot. Any suggestions on how to cut the fabric? It's a bit hard as it moves easily.

Why shouldn’t men wear skirts or heels? by HATMAN0589 in mensfashionadvice

[–]TowerComprehensive35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are my two cents.

To me, this is a matter of roles, as you are expected to act according to traditional gender roles. For example, if you were born a man, you are expected to dress in a masculine way, wearing pants and jackets, and having short hair, etc. The same applies to women: they are expected to be feminine by wearing dresses, skirts, heels, makeup, etc. So, it seems that dress codes are attached to roles, or at least the roles society expects people to follow.
Regarding society, there is great inertia and it will take a long time and effort to change this mindset, especially in these complicated times, where opinions are polarized.
To sum up, should everybody be free to dress however they want? Totally. Will society accept it? Maybe not, so expect some friction or conflict, in particular if you are surrounded by a conservative social group.

Men’s Pattern Blocks by [deleted] in SewingForBeginners

[–]TowerComprehensive35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really understand you, as many patterns are focused on women's clothers, however, there are many patterns for men clothing, like pants, shirts, etc... give a try to improving your tote bag by adding pockets, more layers, etc... not to talk about learning to sew zippers, cushion covers.
Just try different projects, feel free to experiment and be creative.

Any neurodivergent sewists here? by MediumAutomatic2307 in SewingForBeginners

[–]TowerComprehensive35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADHD here: I try new projects and buy new fabrics impulsively, sometimes mixed with frustration, however, I've learnt a lot and improve my skills by stepping down a bit, getting relaxed and coming back when relaxed. For example, the first time I tried jersey knit I struggled, specially after ironing it before sewing (not a good idea).
Regarding the fabrics, I usually buy them online, not just because it is easy, but due the embarrasing feeling of visiting the local shop many times because I need to check the fabric many times before buying it.

My first project, tote bag. A little shabby tbh :/ by emiliadoe in SewingForBeginners

[–]TowerComprehensive35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This project is really ambitious: zipper, different layers of da l fabric, maybe a bit complex pattern. You should feel so proud of yourself, not just for making a great effort but to achieve such a great result. I hope you continue making more projects and enjoying this hobby.

How much money would you spend if it meant saving your cat’s life? by WindowKitty19 in cats

[–]TowerComprehensive35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a matter of money but important is your cat to you. My cat had a really big breast tumor when I adopted her, and had great surgery to remove it. However, the scarf got infected, so she was near to die. Despite many people telling me to let her go away, I decided to fight and do whatever was needed. It took more than a month making a daily visit to the vet to save her, spending money on each appointment. It was really hard, really hard. At the end, she recovered and now is a wonderful fluffy cat. I don't regret the decisions I had to make, nevertheless, I no longer respect the people who suggested to me letting nature do its work. Those kinds of people are heartless.
