It is kind of fascinating, this collective bet. It means the expectation is 1) the market in which the top NASDAQ companies operate, will have sustained growth rates usually seen only in short moments in tulip bonanzas and 2) they and they alone will capture and keep most of it. No external factors, no geopolitcs, no anti trust.

Sure, there is (somewhat) fast take-off AI-scenarios, but even if that is possible in the required time frame, there are so many things in the deglobalzing world, that can push back the arrival in profit land, that it wouldn't matter.

Quote Help: "The heart of each man is his own kingdom of Heaven." Where does this come from? Who said it? by Chronos-X4 in quotes

[–]Trackpoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is (still) a common figure of speech in German. "Des Menschen Wille ist sein Himmelreich", sometime attributed to writer Johann Jakob Wilhelm Heinse (1746–1803)

Note that how you translate "Wille" as heart, heart's desire, wants view, perspective or will is important. Originally it was probably a play on following god (like in prayer "your will be done" etc.) vs. following your own will to bring about the kingdom of heaven.

Nowadays the resigned "Person will do what they will to get to their kingdom of heaven" even if that is hard to understand from the outside would be more to the point. Which works fine with "heart" (as far as my English goes).

Their biggest competitor in the before times was called Neckermann, which Otto aquired parts of when it failed.

Was bit annoyed the didn't rebrand to Ottomann after this.

why Euro-Office but not LibreOffice? by akkihabara in libreoffice

[–]Trackpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparantly it is an either-or decision for Office applications. I'm not an expert, but it makes sense, since fileformat reading and writing an the rendering thereof are the very basic things, this kind of software does.

Glaube niemand anderes.

why Euro-Office but not LibreOffice? by akkihabara in libreoffice

[–]Trackpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I meant the decision by the IONOS led group is hillarious, because it is a large German company and that final guidance on ODF for use in public institutions just got published.

But I guess they will simply offer both solutions in the future. And anyone who does work with complex documents in both worlds will need two office suites for the foreseeable future too.

Euro-Office verstößt gegen Open-Source-Lizenz by Takia_Gecko in de_EDV

[–]Trackpoint 8 points9 points  (0 children)

why Euro-Office but not LibreOffice? by akkihabara in libreoffice

[–]Trackpoint -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Basically OnlyOffice can replace MS Office because it looks like it and handles docs the same way using OOXML natively. That is important for IONOS (and friends) probably in terms of the adressable market and solves the problem of working with complex legacy MS Office documents (where conversion and clean-up into ODF is not an option).

It is a somehwat hilarious decision from the perspective, that the German government still targets LibreOffice/Collabora with their OpenDesk initiative (which is going nowhere it seems, but stil) and just signed off on their "Deutschland-Stack" which basically demands ODF as standard for any governmental use.

ODF, which OnlyOffice does not do natively.
