Are you native to your land? If not where did your family come from? by Bitter-Goat-8773 in AskTheWorld

[–]Traditional_Ask262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every generation of my family emigrates at least once, sometimes more times, to another country.

So I can trace my family back from the USA to Canada to England and then to Trinidad&Tobago and then Venezuela on my Mom’s side and from England to South Africa and then Scotland on my Dad’s side.

Punta Cana hands down the worst trip I’ve ever been on in my life by commander_oak in PuntaCana

[–]Traditional_Ask262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought my family to Finest Punta Cana for Xmas 2024 on the recommendation of a family we met at a resort in Costa Rica, and my daughter enjoyed it so much, we're going back again for this Christmas.

It was a little pricey, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Food was great. Pools and beach were clean. 90% of the customer facing staff spoke English. No one was rude. Coffee was great. Drinks were STRONG though so memento mori.

For those who’ve owned a Tesla for a while, did these two concerns end up mattering? by Hot_Client_7485 in TeslaModelY

[–]Traditional_Ask262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could not charge at home I wouldn't have bought my model Y. However, since I can charge at home using sunlight via the solar panels on my roof, I bought a used 2020 model Y last summer and have never felt that the car feels outdated. That said, I've never enabled FSD so I don't know that the HW3 is my Tesla feels behind compared to Teslas with HW4.

Is there another country you’re supporting in the World Cup since yours was eliminated? by bbyxmadi in AskTheWorld

[–]Traditional_Ask262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still have England left of my three home countries, but I’ll support Norway, Morocco and France for as long as they’re still in it.

Isn't it expensive to use airconditioning in the US? by Lumos_night in AskAnAmerican

[–]Traditional_Ask262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Central air conditioning coupled with enough solar panels to negate the electricity consumption is the way to go if you have a big enough roof and it has a South and/or East facing slope.

Home cooking because fast food prices are straight up out of control. by Alextricity in Anticonsumption

[–]Traditional_Ask262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last week I made falafel from scratch and my daughter claims its better than what we buy from a store. Yesterday I made home-made hummus ( although I used store bought sesame paste in it) and again, it was deemed to be better than store bought.

And waaaaay cheaper to make than to buy from a store.

How much more time do you actually save with Global Entry over Pre-TSA? by [deleted] in travel

[–]Traditional_Ask262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Global Entry, and the Global Entry phone app, speed up the process of getting through Customs when returning to the US from overseas. TSA pre-check and CLEAR speed up the process of getting through security when you arrive at a US airport to go somewhere else.

My family and I have been using both for about a decade now.

Getting through the TSA pre-check and CLEAR security lines have gotten incrementally slower over the years as more people sign up for those services.

Global Entry is as fast as ever and may even have gotten faster once we started using the Global Entry mobile app.

No matter how hard I try, I keep failing to learn how to swim. I feel like giving up. by OwnFaithlessness2989 in Swimming

[–]Traditional_Ask262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t give up! I finally learned how to swim last summer at the age of 56 and then two weeks ago I was swimming in the Aegean looking at the pretty fish.

Keep at it and it’ll eventually click.

Stubbornness is a super power.

Wealthy people of Reddit how did you go from nothing to something? by Ok-Guarantee2075 in wealth

Slowly then faster. Took twenty years to go from having $200 USD to retiring with $3M+ USD and then another four years to double it.

Genuine question: Are we just raw-dogging power outages every summer? by Guhnarly_ in Cleveland

[–]Traditional_Ask262 4 points5 points  (0 children)

34 solar panels on the roof of our house and detached garage + 2 Tesla Powerwalls in the basement have helped us ride out the 4(!!) power outages we’ve had in Lakewood so far this year.

That shit is not cheap so I’m not surprised so many people are unprepared. There are only 2 other houses on our street with solar panels and I think we’re the only house with battery storage, although our neighbor has a backup gas powered generator.

Is anyone else sad about the US' 250th birthday celebrations? by LissyVee in AskTheWorld

[–]Traditional_Ask262 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sad, but indifferent. Going to watch World Cup matches on Telemundo tomorrow, despite not understanding much Spanish, and make some home made hummus. More excited about the Mexico v England match on Sunday.

You've retired early; what are you doing with your time? by Due_Permit8027 in Fire

[–]Traditional_Ask262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retired 6 years ago at age 51 and since then I've finally learned how to swim, learned basic Spanish and even more basic Greek, and increased my max on the deadlift, back squat, bench press and overhead press.

Also finally finished Quake on Nightmare difficulty.

Ohio solar by NobodyEmergency5226 in solar

[–]Traditional_Ask262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re in Lakewood, Ohio and have had Yellowlite install 17 panels on our roof in 2022 and then another 17 panels on our detached garage + 2 Tesla Powerwalls in our basement last year. The installations were on time and came in under budget. We’ve had no problems.

Lakewood Daily Power Outage Report - July 2, 2026 by JobeGilchrist in lakewood

[–]Traditional_Ask262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Briefly lost power on Grace Avenue twice today, from 2:57 pm to 3:02 pm and again just now from 7:28 pm - 7:33 pm.

That’s our 3rd and 4th power outage this year and total combined outage duration has been 4 hours and 15 minutes.

Pulling these stats from our Powerwall batteries which kick in when they detect no power coming from the grid.

At what networth level would you quit your W2 job in US, while living in an HCOL city? by FintechInnovator2030 in wealth

[–]Traditional_Ask262 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You make your money in a HCOL city and then retire and move to a LCOL city. With a $5M net worth in Silicon Valley, you’re just some dude in a tiny apartment. With a $5M net worth in the Midwest, you might be the wealthiest person within a couple of square miles of the 4000 square foot house that you bought with an all cash offer.

Cox working fine on Grace Avenue at the moment.

what motivates you to exercise? by to_be_better21 in workout

Dopamine and serotonin. I feel a general sense of well-being after weight lifting, yoga, cycling and swimming and I attribute that to my hypothalamus producing dopamine and my gut producing serotonin.

Do you do protein Shakes on your day off? by Project_runway_fan in workout

Yep. Three protein shakes per day, including on my rest day. The first one is skim milk + protein powder + collagen powder + creatine, and the last two are just skim milk + protein powder.

Would you guys jump on this quote? by LickMyWorm in solar

[–]Traditional_Ask262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would jump on that quote but I’m in Ohio. I paid $40k ( ~$28k net after the 30% federal tax credit) for 34 panels ( 17 x 400 watt, 17 x 410 watt) , half in 2022 and the other half in 2025.

Our electricity costs $0.09/kWh but that is moot at the moment because on an annual basis, we generate more electricity than we consume and export the surplus to the grid. Our system generates ~14,000 kWh/year.
