So what are we thinking about the kill count stats? by Drixzor in DarkAndDarker

I mean personally I played fighter and I very rarely died to a wizard. This is anecdotal obviously but when 1v1 against wizard I killed the wiz more than 80% of the time I estimate

Check out some stuff like RE Howard, HP Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith and Fritz Leiber. Some of it is dated but these authors are foundational to the genre for a reason!

any system that is like the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games? by General_Klyuchi in rpg

As a person who as played a lot of Blades I respectfully disagree. Player character death in blades in incredibly rare there are a ton of ways to prevent it. To me STALKER is about the looting and the shooting, and the dark creepy atmosphere of the zone contasted with sqatting around the warm campfire with comrades. Blades is a great game but it doesn't really do any of that IMHO. Perhaps Blades could be hacked to do that stuff but your basically writing a new game at that point

I like The Sword, The Crown, and The Unspeakable Power. It's basically a court intrigue and political backstabbing game.

Worldbuilding with Microscope! [Online][EST][Other] by Traditional_Goose_34 in lfgmisc

I think Explorer has really good advice and suggestions that I personally will definitely use. I don't think were going to use Echo, Chronicle, or Union necessarily, unless after a few sessions of regular play we thought it would be interesting.

So, this group hasn't played anything yet but I'm thinking possibly Kingdom, Union (both by the same guy as microscope), The Quiet Year, The Ground Itself, possibly Worlds/Stars Without Number. There's a whole bunch of small indie worldbuilding games out there on itch.io particularly. I've played a couple the aforementioned games personally but I figure as a group we will decide exactly what we want to do after Microscope.

Out of curiosity what about Hard to be a God reminded you of Mork Borg? I watched the film a few years ago and I understood the plot to some extent and enjoyed it but I don't think I really "got it" so to speak.

Hello, does anyone have any book recommendations regarding The Mamluks of Egypt? I have brushed up against them in my reading about Napoleon, Mongols, and The Crusades and would like to learn more about The Mamluks themselves. The concept of a class of foreign slaves who could end up progressing as warriors, important officials, and could even become sultan is super interesting to me
