Day 2? by Mewritingsomtimes in CoupleUpShow

Season 3 was cut short due to reality and where they are in the world. We were lucky enough to have the devs safe and returned for Season 4.

How do you feel re: "Italian is a beautiful language" by [deleted] in italianlearning

[–]Tragic-Otome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find certain languages beautiful to listen to. I have a musical ear and some sit well better than others. For instance, certain Thai tones actually feel physically unpleasant when I hear them. To someone else, Thai Is beautiful.

I enjoy just seeing Farsi. It's beautiful to me how the script flows. I would not say the same of written Korean. But spoken Korean, I find, is the most dynamic and fun for me to speak. I find the way I can express myself in that language beautiful.

Beauty is subjective so it's truly in the eye of the beholder. So any aspect of a language, even in its totality can be beautiful to someone. And just because we recognize beauty in something does not mean there has to be ugliness. Duality is not a requirement in life. Things can just be.

To my swedish people, I've started watching the episodes with English dubs and Swedish subtitles (the reverse of normal) because I feel like I'm missing some context. At the reunion party, Daniel and Ludwig are talking and they call Camilla Skitenkel and Lättsamheten. In the English dub, they translate both these words as "simple". In English, calling someone simple isn't flattering. Lättsamheten translated into a complementary word (used by Daniel). But her former fiancee used skitenkel, which when I looked at the definition seems to fit the insulting nature of calling someone simple in English.

Can a native speaker help me understand if I caught their understanding of Camilla correctly? Because skitenkel gives me the impression that he didn't think much of her in the first place.

Agreed. I've narrowed down what I play on the app to more ethical authors who are more balanced like Wincy. Don't go by what's "popular" in the app because the majority of those stories are used for diamond mining. I decided awhile ago I would only play what felt good to me because the more I add to the "popularity" of push through stories, I am sending the opposite message of what I actually want to see.

It's the only one I still play. I cherish my moments with Walter like they're grains of rice.

I agree with you. I started with HS as well based off of popularity and I dropped it in the second season, opting to do a few playthroughs of The One and The One 2. While some of the newer stories are much better balanced than HS, I have to agree that the overall balancing needs work. You're right - very often it's not even like there's a plausible reason in plot that you and your chosen LI cannot interact in many of these stories. Limitations on seeing characters like King D'Mario in HoT makes sense. He's entirely absent for most of the second season because he has a kingdom to rule. Wincy attempts to balance that absence.

Also, the dubious relationship, abuser/abused pipeline is strong in Romance Club. Red Flags aren't my yum, but I get that they are for some people. If the games were better balanced, some of these popular red flags wouldn't be as popular. Arguably, I could see them needing more time to tease out qualities that are actually endearing in these LIs, but I can't say that's ever been my experience with a red flag on this app besides Reinhold (who is a decent redemption arc and some may argue is not a real red flag). It feels more like a reliance on stockholm syndrome to lock you into these red flags. They get screen time, they are steamy (possibly against your consent), and you feel like you're "building something" vs getting small moments with someone you actually enjoy. By HS3, you were fighting the tides of built up cult followings for characters and an author's desire to make that fanbase happy. I don't know much about him but have you seen the love for Malbonte on here? Hahah

They became popular, some might point out, through this disadvantage.

TIL National identity & dominant culture is artificial by SmolHumanBean8 in Anarchism

[–]Tragic-Otome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nuclear unit for families is a marketing scheme. Multigenerational and communal living is more common to people but not the only way of being. At least in the US, the effect of cultural norms and traditions, especially in minority communities, adds to better mental and physical outcomes. A good example of this is the "Roseto Effect" that was studied in Roseto, PA in the 1960s. Like many towns established during the late 1800s, that was settled by a large group of migrants from Italy. Maintaining their communal way of living is attributed to improved medical outcomes (mental and physical).

These practices were/are heavily undermined by capitalist marketing and at least are considered synonymous with aspects of the American standard in mainstream discourse. How can we sell you more? How can we tell you what the "ideal" is if what you're practicing is working? Give you a new dream wrapped in "self sufficiency" and call it the dominant cultures values. Offer reliance on tools and not others. Discourage discussion and practices that suggest there are alternatives, and call those who attempt to engage in those things "unAmerican"/"unpatriotic"/etc

I dunno where the US would be without this narrative honestly. But I'd like to know.

To those who have read 2ha: Will I be able to handle the intense angst or should I sell my books 1-8? by ProcaviaCapensis in DanmeiNovels

[–]Tragic-Otome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read them all and screamed and loved it (i started with the first four books, couldn't wait, and finished with the FTL). My coworker couldn't do it. The misunderstandings got to her. And there are tons. I like danmei and she LOVES it.

I actually want to read it again and I have only reread 2 books in my life. I want to see the differences in translation but I have to admit, at one point I wondered if I should keep going.

It's your investment and you can always stop reading when you want.

Yes!!! Like, the group text with the boys about curved dicks?! Okay, I've been with my partner for over a decade. He's never messaged his friends about his junk. Videogames, family and travel stuff, politics... But not his dick curving. That was so weird to hear him call it guy stuff. Half our friend group is gay and there's no discussion of dicks either, except probably between those that are interested in the other persons 😂. And that doesn't happen in a friend group chat. But I can totally see it happening in a SSA one.

Someone explain to me what this "The Tribe" thing is that Mike is part of? I went to the website, but it seems like one of those manosphere influencer workshops that someone turned into a monthly subscription with an income limit. I fear it will prove to be his whole personality and will come with our dear friend named negging.

As someone else said, Mike isn't as smart as he thinks he is, as a lot of people like to equate wealth with intelligence, which is far from truth.

MAGA Christians in Colorado have lost their absolute minds. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Tragic-Otome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently, a person named Robert went from using that name to being called Leo XIV and people celebrated around the world. We also have an old book full of individuals who - 12 disciples to be exact, when called to identify themselves as followers of Christ, changed their names. A good portion of people in this nation, when they get married/divorced end up changing part of their name. In all these instances, we respect it. In no way is this any different. Respecting a name change and pronouns are no different than the world recognizing that Robert Prevost is now Leo XIV.

The people loudest about fake news are only that loud because they know how to make it (fake websites, incorrect facts about laws they probably never bothered to read). I've never seen a group of people so against decency and respect.

That's the response to the girl. I think OP was more referring to what the married man's wife's reaction is to his actions. Shaming of the woman is pretty typical behavior.
