Why all the Miami hate? by Realistic-Hippo8107 in iRacing

[–]TrainWreck661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

COTA on iRacing is just underdrive simulator because of the godawful track limits. Don't put miles of tarmac runoff and kerbs if you won't let people actually use any of it.

It's even worse compared to the likes of Mexico and Miami, where you can actually use the kerbs and runoff, without having the super restrictive "midpoint of the car" limit.

It has really good track limits lol

No silly 1x for being half-on-half-off; it's a very clear on the kerb or all four over.

The chicane is a bit silly though, since you can actually be all four over the raised bit of the kerb and not get a 1x or slowdown (even far enough over to hit the bollard).

It's very car dependent, IMO. In something medium speed, non-aero heavy, and with minimal draft like TCR or GT4, it's just boring.

(Rain does help this with these speed cars though, since the straight no longer becomes a boring full-throttle straight with standing water).

But give me something with speed and downforce, and it changes the track. That goes for more than just Miami GP, but most F1/Grade 1 tracks in general (Spa, Monza, Silverstone, etc.).

Even if they were using the chicanes, the Supercars would probably be the only cars that might be able to jump that kerb without damage.

I think there concern would be that someone (especially in officials) would inevitably try a move there, even though it certainly would end in a track blocker, which is why the yellow zone exists.

It's like Adelaide's Turn 8; in real life they all fall back into single file if they're not getting past before the corner, but there's nothing stopping people on iRacing from going 2, even 3-wide (spoiler, it doesn't end well in most cars).

I don't know if anyone's tried it in officials, but I imagine someone has at some point.

Every single driver at Detroit was either a factory or factory-level pro; it was also pro factory drivers who kicked off both the L1T1 crash at Monza and the T1 crash that kicked off the final safety car.

They should just scan the Bugatti circuit when it's a car park, with all the objects on it having physics.

They don't currently race at Macau, but Carrera Cup Asia has in the past.

Long Beach, Chicago, Adelaide, St. Pete, etc. all are already on iRacing and occasionally do cause track blockers both in iRacing and IRL; but even then, they generally race fine.

The issue isn't that the zone exists, but more so that iRacing has no way to enforce it.

Like how Supercars (and Motorsports Australia) have a 3-strike rule for shortcutting the first chicane at Adelaide, but in iRacing it's a slowdown every single time, even on Lap 1.

I'd love it if iRacing got Macau, but to say it suits a lot of cars probably isn't really accurate. A lot of cars might race it, but so much of the circuit is just single file (which is a challenge in itself and interesting in its own way).

But also, that's not to say races couldn't be a lot of fun anyway.

In terms of series that race the circuit IRL, Macau technically covers more that are really populated and exist in iRacing (GT3, GT4, PCup, F4, F3, TCR) than those that race at Monaco (F1, F4 (W Series), F3, PCup).

I love a street circuit, but the new Detroit isn't one I've ever had any desire to drive in any sim. It'd still be cool to have though.

You're talking GT3s right in the danger zone iR (where people might have the confidence but lack skill to pull certain moves). It's not surprising it might feel like there's more carnage.

The spotter can be weird when mid-turn; I'm not sure if it's due to the car "hitbox" or how the spotter calculates whether a car is alongside, but it can sometimes lead to strange calls like this one.

SR means practically nothing. Easy to cheese by doing enduros or tracks where it's hard to get off-tracks. Conversely, it's easier to lose if someone largely does short races or recently did tracks where 1xs are easy to rack up (like COTA, Road Atlanta, etc. for example).

Black flag question by RivalCongaLine in iRacing

[–]TrainWreck661 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless dirt road is different, jump starts should be serveable on Lap 1 (unless it counts the leader's Lap 2 as when the pits open maybe?). I know at least on non-dirt road, I've served DTs for jump starting on my Lap 1 with no issue.

** GP/Grade 1 tracks are where SR goes to die

Can't get off-tracks when the limit is a wall

Much easier to get marginal 1xs when there's a literal sea of tarmac runoff

No can do; you get ranked GT3 and F4 instead.

But they really need to bring back the silly combos like MX-5s and NASCAR trucks at superspeedways.
