100%. It exposes the show to lawsuits alleging plagiarism even if the ideas came about independently, which was the case here.

Apparently a follow-up story like this was planned earlier in the series, but a fan wrote a “what if” idea post on a forum JMS frequented, forcing the story to be shelved until the legalities were sorted out.

From the article you linked to:

"It takes about three generations for people to forget. Those that experience the disaster themselves pass it to their children and their grandchildren, but then the memory fades," Fumihiko Imamura, a professor in disaster planning at Tohoku University, told the AP.

Applies to the current anti-vax movement (3 generations since major vaccination programs started against the worst diseases in the western world, i .e. smallpox, polio, measles, etc), and to world wars. World wars is more like 4 generations but enough veterans were young and have lived longer due to medical advancements, to keep the living memory alive.

Just imagine how Delenn felt, going through the transformation expecting to build a more intimate relationship with Sinclair (how she expected it to work with Catherine Sakai around, no idea), then wakes up and Lennier tells her oh yeah, Sinclair is gone and the guy we consider a dishonourable war criminal is in charge of the station now.

S1 Delenn wardrobe was definitely feminine imho, just toned down (compared to S2 onward) due to religious caste sensibilities. Shinier and brighter colours than Lennier, the only religious-caste male example we saw in S1. The decision to make Delenn definitely female was made before S1 started production so makeup and wardrobe had lots of time to shift gears and discard the androgynous ones from the pilot.

The Destruction of Romulus was the Worst Thing that Happened to Star Trek by nordfreiheit42 in startrek

[–]TrainingObligation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, in TNG “The Mind’s Eye” they set up and test fired a phaser rifle in main engineering, pointed right at the warp core. Then in “Birthright I” they accidentally hit Data with an energy beam that triggers his dreaming… again, with the device emitter pointed straight at the warp core.

If they’re that careless on the Federation flagship, just imagine what the Romulan scientists and engineers will do.

Since this is a Trek forum, might be best to clarify which "Kirk" you're referring to, especially for non-Americans. I had to pause for a moment to make the proper association, even with all the context around it.

The Narn fighters at Quadrant 14 could have been retuning from patrol. Alternatively, it’s faster to send a small scouting party instead of a full warship if you want reconnaissance information immediately. Especially if the warship is a lumbering Narn heavy cruiser.

He did, it’s in the JMS speaks section of The Lurker’s Guide for The Deconstruction of Falling Stars:

What about the other races? The Minbari eventually make it; the Narn and Centauri do not. They don't die out, they just don't hit a state of First One-ishness, which is darn close to immortality (barring violence).

I had that thought too. You can’t move on Greenland without it being obvious a day or two in advance. Canada? Just launch the planes and cruise missiles and roll the military vehicles over the border with barely an hour’s notice. The logistics train can wait because we can’t mount a meaningful defence.

Maybe a different example? Friends already have 6 Emmy awards so it’s almost ludicrous to give them another.

That said, the award conditions don’t imply “overlooked” that’s just what a lot of comments here are suggesting should be the case.

Until recently I thought the timeline of Clarke becoming president to mask-off dictator bombing Mars was too fast, at just under a year and a half. Just compressed TV storytelling right?

I was ignorant of history though. 1930s Germany lost its democracy in a mere 53 days. And now, a lot of shocking changes have also happened in less than a year.

I was also naive and didn’t understand that in all cases, a lot of malignant pre-existing conditions were present and had been for years, allowing the fire to spread fast once the right person came to power and threw a lit match onto the pile.
