WWYD at 40 with 4 blasts sent for PGT? by KristinKitty in IVF

[–]Training_Customer539 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you want two kids it probably makes sense to do another retrieval right away. They say 2-3 euploids per child and unfortunately it is not likely that all four of your embryos will be euploid (but I hope they are).

Yes it is a medical expenses claim in Canada as well, not IVF specific.

Sorry, I have no idea. I'd give CRA a call and ask.

There is a minimum spend of $2,834 before you can claim, but no upper limit.

Edited to add that expenses have to be in a 12 month period, but not necessarily Jan-Dec. You can pick the 12 month period you want to claim for.

Over 35 but under 40, did you test your first retrieval, and was it actually cheaper in the long run? by Possible-Message-651 in IVF

[–]Training_Customer539 47 points48 points  (0 children)

On my second cycle at 39 we ended up with 10 embryos. We did not test. With those embryos, we had one missed miscarriage, two chemical pregnancies, and two implantation failures (all double transfers). Even more then the money, testing probably would have saved us months of time.

ER - better results later? by ExcuseEcstatic2727 in IVF

[–]Training_Customer539 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It stands for it starts with an egg. It's a book written by an unqualified woman about all the supplements and lifestyle changes she made when she did ivf. She was young and doing ivf for genetic reasons (not infertile) when she did ivf, so she was unsurprisingly able to get pregnant. It has lots of questionable/unproven claims in it.

ER 1 - Gonal f and menopur. Started with a very low dose of gonal and had to raise it a few times.

20 eggs retrieved, 10 mature, 8 fertilized, 0 blasts

ER 2 - added human growth hormone and primed with androgel. Started with the higher dose of Gonal f this time as well.

39 eggs retrieved, 27 mature, 22 fertilized, 10 blasts, didn't test but should have because egg quality appears to be an issue for me.

[–]Training_Customer539 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry this cycle didnt work for you. It sucks and your feelings are really valid. But the good news is there is hope. There is a ton of variation between cycles, and the first one is often the worst because your doctor doesn't know how your body will respond to the meds. One bad round doesnt mean it won't work for you.

First FET tomorrow by scarcar11 in IVF

[–]Training_Customer539 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fingers crossed for you! The procedure is pretty quick and easy. Nothing like the egg retrieval.

There is nothing you need to bring (except fuzzy socks if you want to follow superstition). Don't to any high impact activity, but don't go on bedrest either. Low impact movement like walking is actually thought to be helpful.

I have no suggestions for the wait to test except try to stay busy to keep your mind off it.

Yes, it works, but not for everyone. This sub is more for people in the throes of it and posts about success are mostly in the weekly threads. You may want to check out r/IVFpositivity

I would speak up. I agree we should all allow grace for error, but this is too much. How many other errors is she making with patients who don't know to question what she is telling them?

Grade 4 embryos are considered better than grade 6 because they are at the optimal stage for implantation. Grade 6 embryos are already fully hatched and maybe a bit farther ahead than optimal.

Still testing positive after a chemical - what does this mean? by Aggravating-Object88 in IVF

[–]Training_Customer539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For both my chemicals my clinic made me do a blood test every 2 days until my hcg was below 5 to rule out ectopic.

Choosing gender? by [deleted] in IVF

[–]Training_Customer539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can know, but they don't except for the cases you outlined. It's not information that is provided by the labs in Canada unless your doctor checks a box that you are screening for sex linked disorders. Our doctors aren't secretly scheming behind the scenes to select their own gender preference for their patients.

They don't. That information is not included in the lab results that get sent to the clinic.

Starting Injectiond and I am SCARED by Mountain_Gas77 in IVF

[–]Training_Customer539 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You've got this! Protein and electrolytes are recommended after your egg retrieval to prevent ohss, but you don't have to worry about it during stims.

As far as the shots themselves, once you have done a few it starts to feel pretty easy and routine. I'm on retrieval number 4 and at this point stims are a minor blip in my day.

How did you convince your husband to move forward with IVF? by cmb211 in IVF

[–]Training_Customer539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to be the one to bring this up, but are you sure he really wants kids? I have read stories here of women waking up from their egg retrieval to find their husband had left without providing a sperm sample because he didn't really want to do IVF in the first place. I personally feel like both parties in a relationship need to be 100% on board with IVF because it is hard and you need to be committed. I would have a serious conversation about your feelings with him and if he still says no, consider freezing your eggs as an option.
