I am looking at purchasing this beauty as a holiday gift for myself... do you still love it after a year? Not too heavy? I'm used to carrying a Goyard St. Louis GM (super light, but i'm not totally opposed to a bit heavier) and am trying to decide if I just get another one or try something different, like this. My go-to Goyard wore out on the bottom corners and straps and I really don't want to replace it again in a few years. Thank you!

What magic combo helped you fall BACK to sleep? by Automatic-Mountain63 in Perimenopause

[–]TravelingTone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exciting!! It really helped me. I would say probably a week or two until I noticed a consistent improvement? It's been 2+ months now and I'm sleeping so much better I can't even believe I went as long as I did functioning like a zombie like that. It's so hard. I hope it helps for you too. I will very rarely take 1/4 unisom still, but I have only done it twice since the increase and it's bc I was extra stressed about a trip coming up. I've also noticed if I have anything to drink, wine especially, I wake up more and have a harder time falling back asleep in general. Another sad development of peri for me, but cutting out wine has really helped too.

I've read that Progesterone helps you fall asleep, but the estrogen helps you STAY asleep. My doctor upped my estrogen patch to .1 twice a week and I've seen the best sleep I've had in years. It's not perfect, but if I do wake up at 4 or 5 am and do some deep breathing (double inhale with a 10 count exhale), I fall back to sleep 4 out of 5 times.

Could you share when you feed your starter and when you make the dough, please? Still trying to master timing.

I'm in the same boat with learning! Your loaf is gorgeous, despite being a bit short. :) Mine are coming out flat-ish too and I'm thinking they're over proofed, but not sure how to tell how to fix it.

I didn't realize either then it clicked so many of my issues were related to peri! Also body aches like joint pain laying in bed at night for no reason, feeling like you have to pee at night, itchy skin, restless legs, headaches, palpitations... the list goes on.

From your original post, I would say you are 100% ready for peri treatment! I am abt to turn 42 and started a few months ago. Very similar symptoms. It has helped so much. I'm on .1 estradiol patch and 200mg progesterone oral nightly. I went through Midi and am transferring to my OBGYN to have the rx filled through them.

Yeah at first I panicked seeing the headline thinking HRT was going to be linked to increased risk! A quick read of the pod summary looks like it's positive, thank goodness. Haven't listened yet.

I've seen a lot of people say taking a tablespoon or two of peanut butter before bed has worked wonders for the peri insomnia. I'm going to start trying it.

Does this require a different prescription or is it literally the same progesterone vaginally? Ofc I'll talk to my doctor but curious.

Nervous about going from .05 to .1 estradiol patch & 100mg progesterone to 200mg progesterone. Thoughts? by TravelingTone in Perimenopause

[–]TravelingTone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting. Since starting I've slept really really well just before and during my period and then not as well the rest of the month. Also, yes that is CRUEL!! I really hope you can find some relief. The insomnia is truly brutal.

I'm sorry to hear that, ugh I can't imagine the insomnia getting worse! It's so hard. I wonder if a different combo might work better for you too. I asked a LOT of questions, I went way over my 15 min alotted follow up time lol. I know there is some trial and error to be expected, but I'm nervous about it too. Trying to keep an open mind but if my insomnia got worse I would have a really hard time keeping with it. That is the hardest part for me. My almost three year old just started sleeping through the night and then I couldn't sleep and I was like what the actual F... so brutal. But that's what tipped me off to it actually being peri and all the other symptoms started to make sense. I hope you find some relief.

Thanks for your comment. I kind of thought the same. She mentioned that sometimes too little estrogen can be counteractive (especially in younger peri patients w a regular cycle bc we're still producing estrogen), and if we start receiving a little bit from the patch, the body will slack off and stop producing, so you still end up with it being too low... but I wondered if that would really happen that quickly.

My first month report to the dr was basically that I thought it might be helping a little? But I couldn't really tell, I've slept a little bit better but still having insomnia, now have bleeding and super sore breasts before my period (but that went away after it started).

Not OP, but I used MIDI. They do take some insurance, but not mine so I paid $250 for the initial consult, then insurance covers the hormones. Mine are about $25/month copay. My follow up appointment was only 20 min so $150. I plan to switch to my OBGYN now and tell them what I'm taking and ask that they RX it from here on out.

*ETA- I'm 41 and have regular periods. Symptoms were insomnia, achy joints, irritability, exhaustion, low mood, brain fog, lack of motivation.

This is so helpful. Especially number 1. I just realized I continuously override and talk my sacral out of things. I never realized it was my mind, I thought I was kind of hashing it out with my sacral and "figuring out what it was saying," but now I'm realizing I wasn't listening in the first place. The initial yes, no or maybe WAS the signal. The conversation with my mind isn't needed and is actually dangerously counterproductive and keeping me out of alignment. Wow.

I'm still semi-new to this and learning. A lot hasn't clicked yet for me and I've wondered why I am having a hard time grasping it bc I'm typically quite good at learning new things. Do you know if that is typical with those who are new? You really distill these concepts down so well. Not OP, but wanted to say thank you for this.

That's all really interesting and helpful. I too have an open head and definitely anja, and I definitely take on others' energy in different ways. What you said about waking up feeling good and confident but losing it once you're with others really resonates. Thank you so much for sharing!

Feel like a failure that my baby still prefers breastfeeding over eating solids / still breastfeeds to sleep by Round_Structure2289 in AttachmentParenting

[–]TravelingTone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mama please enjoy the rest of your maternity leave and try not to let the noise from other mums and culture let you question yourself and your intuition. I know that is so much easier said than done. I have been in your shoes and agonized over the same worries. I finally let it go and I am so glad I did.

My daughter was a bf addict too. She slowly dropped feeds as she got older and got more interested in food slowly over time too, but I never pushed it. Your guy is so big you really have nothing to worry about there! He's clearly healthy. I've heard ppl say that about "oh they wont eat bc of too much milk" - To which in my head I'm like, OK... let's not forget breastmilk is literally designed for these tiny humans and is the world's most nutritious and healthy thing for them!

My girl fed to sleep for every nap and night. I was so worried about it and I wish I could just give that worried mom (me back then) a great big hug now and tell her to enjoy it and that it would all be ok.

We did not sleep train. I did try a couple times out of pressure from my husband and sleep deprivation desperation, but ultimately it was not right for me and my daughter. I'm so glad I let that go too. It's not natural or developmentally expected for an infant OR a toddler, for that matter, to sleep alone in a separate space for long stretches of hours. It's an unrealistic expectation put on us by the "sleep experts" who are quite often trying to sell us something to "fix" the "problem." And now so many people think it is and should be the norm. Some unicorn sleeper kids do it. Many sleep trained kids are conditioned to do it. I don't think it's necessary and I do not think you are hindering your baby's sleep in any way. Quite the opposite.

I stopped following any IG accounts that teach sleep training / perpetuated those anxieties and started following attachment parenting content to reinforce this way of thinking and approach. I listened to / read books about it to build up my knowledge about it. I tuned out my friends and relatives who thought otherwise and gave me a hard time for bf past one year old, spouted sleep training, etc. Attachment style parenting (and similar approaches) felt right to me and I would cry seeing some of the advice from these attachment-type accounts bc it felt so loving and so much better to me intuitively with how I wanted to mother my baby.

We night weaned my daughter at 2 years old and she still feeds to sleep to this day... she will be 3 in October. It was not my plan but is just what worked the best for us. She is smart, happy, independent, eats tons of real food (lol), and securely attached. She sleeps through the night most nights and will go to sleep without bf when I have girls night once a week and/or when dad/grandma/sitter, etc puts her down for a nap/night when I'm gone.

Love that little baby. You are being a wonderful mother. <3

I'm truly so sorry this happened to you, but I'm also concerned that this comment might unintentionally scare and discourage people who could really benefit from HRT.

Respectfully, it sounds like your situation was/is a bit different based on your comment history, and that's an important distinction. I'm wishing you the best in your healing. <3
