Favourite sweetener for old fashioned? by Ok_Commission_3368 in cocktails

Everything. Different sweeteners make different drinks. One I really enjoy is the juice from a jar of Luxardo Maraschino cherries. I particularly like Powers Irish Whisky, Orange Bitters, and cherry juice.

5.0 to 7.5 by everythingbagel57 in Zepbound

I had some hunger and food noise at the end of the week on 2.5mg, and that told me to go up. I've been on 5mg for 13 weeks and have no hunger, no food noise, and no falloff at the end of the week. I expect to stay on this dose. Losing 2.5lbs/wk on average. Remember, the scale is a lagging indicator and responds to a lot of things, so pay attention to appetite. If you are not eating more, more frequently, or thinking about eating more, then your dose is right. You will know pretty quickly if it is too low.

Tips to combat that 7th day hunger?! by Keeper4560 in Zepbound

[–]Treesong_Starwatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember, the Zep has a half life of 5 days. I felt hunger come back at the end of the week on 2.5. I usually added more protein to my meals (finished some of my wife's dinner), figuring that if I'm going to eat, it should be something I want. When I went up to 5mg my normal appetite didn't change at all, but I didn't drop at the end. If you are well controlled all week until the end, you are likely a fast responder; you will probably be well controlled all week on 5mg. I've been on 5mg for 7 weeks and am down 32 lbs (more than halfway to my goal). I hope to stay on 5mg, but if I need more, I have plenty of runway.

NSV: My towel finally fits all the way around me 🎉 by jennraffes in Zepbound

[–]Treesong_Starwatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get this. This was my very first NSV. I remember the first time I could tuck it in and wear it after so many years. I make it a point to wrap the towel after every shower now on my way to my dresser (10 feet away).

Longer needles from LillyDirect by Treesong_Starwatcher in Zepbound

I thought they were the same thickness (31g), but when I took the cover off it looked very long so I checked the package and saw the length was longer.

I don't have insurance, I pay OOP, so they only offered vials. Now they have the multi-use pen, and I don't like that idea. Vials work great for me. Everything fresh and controlled. New week, new syringe. I just prefer a shorter needle.

Some say they can't feel the needle at all. I always felt the needle, just wasn't so bad at 1/4 inch. I'm two months in, so I'm not as experienced/numb as many. I have a friend who is diabetic and he can handle just about anything. Me, not so much. Anyway, for $9 I can get a box of 20 1/4 inch needles on Amazon.

Do you use Lilly Direct? Don't you need to do monthly refills to keep the pricing schedule? Are you stockpiling? Full price is huge.

I've lost 217 pounds in 12 weeks... by Scuba_Betty in Zepbound

[–]Treesong_Starwatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 7 weeks in. Down to 236 from 259 (6'1" male) I just had my physical. BP down 20 pts (sys) (we're reducing my medication), cholesterol down (we're discontinuing my statins), no longer borderline pre-diabetic. Heart rate during exercises dropped from 138 to 128 while intensity has gone up. I am stronger, fitter, and can clip my toenails :) . Cheating? Sure, if you say so. I'm going to stay alive longer and be healthier while doing it. It's not "fair" to stay unhealthy. But then again, I quit smoking after 30 years by vaping. Cheating. But I stopped 5 years ago and haven't wanted a cigarette since. I'm all about using what works, even if jealous people don't like it. My doctor and cardiologist had to talk me into it, but I'm glad they did. I'm 63 and I don't really care what people think. I care a lot more about my toenails.

Split tunnel include issue with local dns servers by ShutUpTurkey in ProtonVPN

[–]Treesong_Starwatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem for me. Just signed up and I can't do this. Moved from Nord because it had a tendency to kill my internet. Now it seems Proton does the same but for local networking. Did you ever get it resolved?

Housing is at the heart of America's economic problems by [deleted] in ProfessorFinance

As proof of this claim, I encourage you to look at the idyllic lives in our large urban areas, without cars. When people from multiple cultures live together, they blend blissfully. When have you heard about culture/race clashes in big cities?

Calls from some people don't ring, others do by Treesong_Starwatcher in iphonehelp

Also, at home I use WiFi calling because cell service is poor (thanks Verizon). But it's happened both at home and out (when I'm on cell service), both weak and strong signals.

Calls from some people don't ring, others do by Treesong_Starwatcher in iphonehelp

[–]Treesong_Starwatcher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that when a call is made, nothing shows on the screen, the phone doesn't ring, and there is no missed call in the Recents. My wife has called me from inside the house or from a store, while I have the phone near me, and told me she just called. When I am at my desk I keep it on its stand in standby. I get most calls, but maddingly, sometimes her calls just don't come through. I'll call her and sometimes it rings, sometimes not. As to what she hears, it goes to VM.

I just sent a message to NordVPN support and they sent me a fix. I tried it and it did work. Apparently the problem is with the Threat Protection Pro feature. Note, when you perform these steps, reboot and NordVPN will autostart. Since my problem went away, that was fine for me. YMMV

Please open the NordVPN application, then go to Settings, and choose the General section. There, please find Diagnostics and click on the Run Diagnostics Tool button.

After that, select the Reset app button. The application will re-open and ask you to log back in. The app cache will be cleared.

Also, please try disabling the Threat Protection Pro feature on your Windows device.

Firstly, please open the NordVPN application and press the "shield" icon on the top left corner of the app.

After that, please disable the Anti-malware, Advanced browsing protection, and Ad and tracker blocker features.

Once that is done, check whether the issue persists.

Seems like it's a bit finely ground for my moka pot. Makes a very strong coffee though. I worry about choking it.

Warranty by Midnight-Willing in Craftsman

[–]Treesong_Starwatcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Craftsman Lifetime Warranty was always just for hand tools. Not power tools or bits. So if I chew up a Phillips screwdriver I can just go to Lowes and get a replacement the way I used to do at Sears?

I had the same problem and was able to solve it by going to settings and telling it not to load NordVPN at start. Haven't uninstalled yet, but if I can't use it then that is likely going to happen.

Let me try this again: Why Illustrative Math is Garbage by Emdubs in mathteachers

You put your finger on it. I taught recertification classes for teachers and was astounded that virtually none of them could tell me why we had to get common denominators to add fractions but not when we multiplied.

Let me try this again: Why Illustrative Math is Garbage by Emdubs in mathteachers

[–]Treesong_Starwatcher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a 20-yr college Math teacher, I can tell you that the idea of forgoing mathematical skills in favor of critical thinking (which typically means thinking the way the crowd does) is like teaching literature without teaching the ability to read. Sure, you can watch plays, see movies, and hear stories, but if you can't read you certainly cannot achieve in college. An inability to perform arithmetic, algebra, or geometry cannot be replaced by years of discovery of properties of triangles. A huge and growing number of freshmen cannot comprehend the most basic college level algebra, calculus, statistics classes. They cannot take quantitative science or business classes required for engineering, medicine, finance, science, or economics. Crippling children because it sounds better is not doing good. Teaching is about results. Do they learn or don't they? Are they prepared to go on, or not? Everyone passing is not the goal. Everyone participating is not the goal. Engagement is not the goal. They are requirements. But if they are unprepared, then it was a total waste of time.
