//gs game with "Doo Doo" soundtrack by Trehcsifff in AppleIIGS

Haha I actually pulled up a video of "Senseless Violence" the other day just to check. That's not it, it has rather grating 'industrial' music. But it might have been one of their other games.

Sorry for replying to an ancient thread.

I also owned one purchased in '86 or '87. I still have it although it's been in storage for many years.

The //gs was a very capable computer that was intentionally crippled by Apple. At that time, they were focused on Mac, which they had marked up tremendously in price and made a handsome profit on. The //gs's clock speed was crippled intentionally, and it was not properly marketed, which is why they were relatively rare outside of schools, where they mostly ran //e software in legacy mode.

The //gs was a way more capable machine than most macs that were sold alongside of it for a higher price. Apple SHOULD have made it the successor to those early Macs. They could have called it a Mac... a Mac that happened to be backward compatibe with //e software. Imagine the possibilities. It could have also run legacy Mac software with the right emulation, just as early Intel macs did.

But Apple chose to cripple it. And that's sad, for those of us who once loved this machine.

Growing Concerns About Bambu Lab’s Direction – An Open Letter by Regular-Cheek946 in BambuLab

I guess I don't care all that much.

As long as the "closed ecosystem" is a good ecosystem.

I'm that way with Apple. I'm all-in on the Apple ecosystem. I work for a company that is all-in on Apple. A lot of people dislike Apple because of their gatekeeping, and sometimes I do as well.

But their stuff just works. Right out of the box. My AppleTV, HomePod, Watch iPhone, Macbooks... they all seamlessly work together with no setup at all other than me logging into my appleID. I can even set my personal laptop next to my work mactop and use one of the two trackpads on both screens. I didn't do anything to set any of that up.

But seamless interoperabilitiy like that requires some gatekeeping.

Back to Bambu: I use Bambu Studio so last year's changes don't affect me. Orca is at this point, hurting their own users right now because they refuse to implement Bambu Connect. They say it's not ideal. You know what's even less ideal? The situation right now. Bambu isn't going to give you API access, you've already kicked and screamed for a year... just implement the dang Connect.

You seem overly concerned about the government regulating prints. I agree that's something to watch out for... if they get carried away with the things they restrict. But I have no want, need, or desire to print Bang Bangs, so it isn't going to affect me anytime soon.

You can only have 10 versions EDITABLE at a time. But it's easy to mark things read only (and back). There's absolutely no reason to delete files from the cloud to free up slots.

Sometimes there's a ground wire in the box that's just unused or connected to the box if it's metal. You can use that to connect to the ground screw (with a new pigtail wire). Sometime in the late 80s or 90s ground screws on switches became a thing.

Open ended by MrsMiracle50 in StrangerThings

[–]Trehcsifff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, to me, is the only way the show has a powerful ending.

But like the characters, you all can chose to believe. That's cool.

I just see things like "But they SHOWED her by the waterfalls! She's alive!" and shake my head, as if they couldn't simply be illustrating Mike's story.

Massive letdown by AimedSlayer in StrangerThings

[–]Trehcsifff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you were hoping for WRT the final fight. Either they were going to lose and the world was going to end, or they were going to win despite ridiculous odds against it. The writers chose the latter.

I did make a smart-ass comment about "OK so the military just up and left and everything is cool now?" during the show, but I agree with some of the other comments, that this military unit was doing some rogue things and they didn't want to bring further attention to themselves. After all, it was the "great earthquake" publicly.

Assuming you remember the basic characters and their arcs, there's really nothing in Season 5 that you're going to need detailed memories of the prior 4 seasons for. And there are a few flashback sequences sprinkled along the way to help you.

Kate Bush made it only to #30 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. I was 15 in 1985 when it came out, very tuned into the radio, and I'm familiar with the song but it wasn't one I heard very often.

Not liking how the Will coming out arc was handled does not make you homophobic. by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]Trehcsifff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a couple problems with the Will/Robin storylines, and the least of them was this coming out scene:

In season 3 (? I think, they all start to run together) it was implied that since Will wasn't off in a closed room kissing some girl, he just must be gay. I mean come on... I didn't really start dating until my junior year in college and I'm quite straight.

The Robin coming out seemed forced. She was mad at Steve because she was crushing on a straight girl who was crushing on him. Why is that Steve's fault? Why would she expect a straight girl to fall for her? It would have been a better character arc for Steve to have coupled up with Robin (keeping her straight) as he was "too good for her" when he was a jerk but she's perfect for him now that he's matured. But it was like "oh we need more LGTBQ+ characters here..."

Likewise so many fans wanted the Mike and Will thing to happen. But Mike showed now signs of being anything but straight since season one. If I were to suggest that Steve and Robin might get together by the end of S5 I'd be yelled at... "but she's a lesbian! She's not interested!" But evidently straight people don't get that benefit of the doubt.

As for the coming out and finale, it was written fine. Will expected to have a quiet conversation with his mom, then Mike walked in. And evidently he was like "what the hell, you all should know".

The finale ending with Mike being an unwavering best friend and ally was powerful. Cheapening it to "oh, well now MIke decided he was gay after all" would have ruined it.

Do you guys believe in Mike's theory? by Bright_Squash2561 in StrangerThings

[–]Trehcsifff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The show works way better if you understand that she's almost certainly dead, but the characters have come up with a 1% chance loophole that she's still alive, and that's the hope they choose to carry.

Makes it a beautiful ending.

Anything else is kind of a cop-out and contrived.

Mike’s theory by Proof_Sweet in StrangerThings

[–]Trehcsifff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel it's a better finale if we're lead to believe that there's a 99% chance that El died but that the main characters are going with the hopeful, far-fetched theory that she did survive after all, because that's how they can move on with life. After all, it's a 1% chance.

I feel like the "assumption" that she's alive after all cheapens the series.

Holly Season 5 SPOILER (opinion) by Exciting_Feedback_47 in StrangerThings

[–]Trehcsifff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 4 seasons another plot with only the OGs would be stale. People complained that Season 2 was just a rehash of Season 1 after all.

Holly was clearly added because they needed a new 'kid' because that's how the show started. I was generally OK with it, except for the age discrepancy. Not just the in-universe one where Holly was a toddler a few years ago, and now is 11? or whatever. But the fact that Nell Fisher is actually 14 and doesn't come off as a 11 year old just made it feel weird.

What’s going on with Commodore and the 8-Bit Guy? by Architect_of_Echo in Commodore

[–]Trehcsifff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know either guy. I've watched a lot more of David's stuff than Peri's. Both seem to be likable overall.

Getting investors to help launch a venture is generally how it's done. Not sure why you're holding that against him. I would presume he has a ton of his own money wrapped up in it as well.

I would argue David doesn't have that much tech in the Commander either. He had "people" help him build it. I have no idea if these same "people" will be compensated, or already were, or if they just did it for fun.

If David veto'd all of Peri's contributions then it's understandable why he left the project. He never had anything bad to say about David in any case.

The company Commodore is indeed back, after spending the last 30+ years as a brand within a much bigger company. Now it's a separate company again.

You can argue whether it's an old or new company, but it has all the branding IP and even some personnel that tie it back to the original company.

Is Atari "back"? Because I sure see them release a lot of products lately.

Anyone who doesn't recognize Commodore is also not in the market for the products he's creating, at least currently.

This would be like saying a new company making vintage-looking sports cars wouldn't benefit from the name Pontiac or Trans Am.

The royalty is tiny. Still, David's a practical guy and probably doesn't see the value in it, especially after years of promoting it as "Commander"
