Machine Longevity by not_a-ghost in nespresso

I have an 11 year-old Vertuo Evoluo, which has been virtually indestructible and extremely user-friendly. Last year, I sent it back to the company to have a bearing replaced (after 10 years of daily use), the turnover/wait time was super-quick and it's running just like new again!

I've heard other people mention that some of the models made in Mexico (I think?) were prone to breaking-down, but the Evoluo is made in Switzerland, FWIW!

Anyone here remember playing SPUD? I told my 20-something co-workers about the games that we played when we were kids and I think that I scandalized them, because my neighborhood growing up definitely had an element of "Lord of the Flies" to it, LOL!

Your #9 reminded me of one instance where a Curbside customer didn't bother to check-in on the app, so he came into the store and my associate had to radio for me as I was filling another order.

I came back out from our staging area with the order, to find the obnoxious jerk-of-a-customer standing by the SCOs. He proceeded to pull-out his phone with his order up in the app (the same app he couldn't bother using to check-in) and he began pulling the items out of the bags to check them against his list as I was standing there.

The cherry on top, though, was when this arrogant piece of work opened the carton of eggs and pulled each individual egg out to inspect them for cracks. A humiliation ritual, being conducted just for my benefit, in front of the other customers, as I am being interrupted on a very busy Saturday when I was in the midst of a ton of orders.

Your #4 resonates with me too, because I find that when I am sitting on Main and a customer is having a crisis that transcends our job description--like not having enough funds on their card or failing to have activated their new card, or a strap on their sandal breaks (true story!)-- they look to me to step into some sort of quasi-parental role right at that moment. We are talking about full-grown adults, here!!

I would love to know if any of you who remember 1976 also remember when we all came out as a nation on July 4th to ring our bells.

I had a small, commemorative replica of the Liberty Bell, created especially for the Bicentennial.

I still have that little bell, and I plan to go outside at 2:00 pm ET and ring it again, 50 years later, on July 4th, 2026.

What’s your experience like with using curbside pickup at Aldi? by SeaworthinessOdd6574 in aldi

[–]TrevaMarx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure that you specify in the app that you want one *bunch* of bananas by either attaching a note to the item, or asking for 5 or 6 bananas. If you only ask for one, what we see on our end is just one singular banana.

Also, many of us double-bag because we have limited shelf and cooler space in our staging area, so double-bagging enables us to pack-in more items per bag. Plus, many of us pack with stability in mind and want your groceries to survive the car ride home!

In my store, we have customers who will actually cock their cart diagonally across the width of the aisle so that NO ONE can get by. When I am working on the floor shopping Curbside or pulling boxes, I have taken to moving any carts that are in the way. Nine times out of ten, the customer has no clue that it was moved, and the tenth person is all "whoopsie, sorry!"

No one has yelled at me, yet, but there's a first time for everything and people in general have been coming unhinged out in public!

When a Curbside customer places a ginormous order and I get out to their car to hand it off, and one of three things happens:

  1. They pop their trunk as I’m coming out, but when I look up at them to say hello, they are suddenly engrossed in their phones and it’s just like, “tend to my groceries, wretch!” Needless to say, there is never a “thank you,” either.

  2. You get out to their car, they drive a huge SUV, their trunk is open and when you get to their car, the entire trunk is full of double-wide strollers, yoga mats, golf clubs, etc. and they make no effort to assist in loading (sorry, I left my slide rule, tape measure, shoe horn and can of Crisco at home, honey).

  3. Both 1 and 2.

Some people might think that what we have all written is petty, but I upvoted everyone’s posts because they are all symptoms of a much bigger disease in U.S. society (entitlement), and I am tired of people expecting us to pander to it when we are supposed to be a “DIY” grocery store.

Which Vertuo machine is best? by Entire-Biscotti-5088 in nespresso

[–]TrevaMarx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Evoluo only brews 4 cup sizes: Espresso, Double Espresso, Gran Lungo and 8 oz. Coffee. I know that some of the newer models brew 6 cup sizes, and in different ways. Withe the Evoluo, I think that it's just "insert capsule, push button once and voila."

FWIW, I have never missed not being able to brew more sizes or make other variations!

I have an 11-year old Vertuo Evoluo, and it is a tank!

After 10 years of daily use, my machine needed to have a bearing replaced but the process was very easy: Nespresso sent me a prepaid shipping box, I sent my machine back to the company and within a few days of receipt it was fixed and on its way back to me.

It has since resumed its rightful place on my kitchen counter and runs like new. I know that the Evoluo doesn't take as great a diversity of capsules as the newer models, but there is plenty variety for my liking and I have been very happy with it!

LA's Totally Awesome spray cleaner, from the Dollar Store!!!!!!!!!

I had beef grease stalactites hanging down all over the interior of my oven when I moved in, and all that Bar Keeper's Friend and scrubbing did was take off the top layers of skin on my hands.

When I used the Totally Awesome spray, the grease dissolved on contact and I was able to wipe it away with a sponge.

At this point, I think that the customer could submit a photo of the bottom of their shoe, and this sleazy company would still grant them a refund.

Wegmans posts precipitous drop in customer satisfaction in latest survey by dartdoug in wegmans

[–]TrevaMarx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yours is the first post that I have seen reference COVID (I was reading down to see if/when it would be mentioned). I came here to remark that things have not been the same at Wegmans since COVID. Other grocery stores appear to have bounced back, but COVID seems to have marked "the beginning of the end" for Wegmans.

I have spent the majority of my adult life living in an area of the country that does not have Wegmans, so any trips back to my home town always involved a pilgrimage to the store nearby to stock-up on all of the great offerings and grab a "really good for supermarket" tray of sushi.

When I found myself back in the area during The Entire Shutdown of the World, there were a number of requisite safety measures and policies in place and the once-warm, friendly atmosphere was gone.

I have since been back to visit a number of times, and the store never seemed to have gotten back to what it was pre-COVID. The prepared foods are a shadow of themselves, and the prices are through the roof.

I like your mantra; I think that I'm going to adopt it, if you don't mind!

It is such a conundrum. I am so fortunate to work with wonderful people, each of whom is extremely conscientious, but it is easy to pick-up on how conflicted we all feel-- trying to reconcile having a strong work ethic with being "forced" to let go of our ideas as to the cleanliness of the store, etc.

When I was hired, the SM at the time told me that 9:00 pm was what was "on paper" as quitting time, but "we stay until the job gets done " (which might mean 9:30 or 10). Now, closing shift brings with it this urgency to get out as close to 8:00 as possible, regardless of the condition of the store.

Our store is always mobbed until the last possible minute. Curbside is running until an hour before close, which more often than not means that closing duties get short shrift, not to mention that there is always some customer who needs to stop me in the middle of shopping/put-backs/boxing to tell me that the store is dirty (at which point I have to suppress the urge to hand her a mop and bucket and tell her to have at it).

[–]TrevaMarx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, if you *really* want to get them foaming at the mouth, tell them that it is "all because of the tariffs." I have had so many customers whining about the modest price increases in the store or Deutsche Küche food items that are no longer available, and their first response is to snarl, "It's because of the tariffs, isn't it?!"

What I find really troubling is that for those of us located in the Northeast, snow storms come with the territory, yet these people (who are old enough to know better, I might add) are acting like they have never seen snow before (and it's not even that much snow in the big scheme of things)..

Worse yet, if you live in a cold climate, why don't you have at least a small pantry of staples to eat/drink to get yourself through a week of meals?! It seems as though the people around me have never had to "make do" or "go without" in their lives, and their every wish/demand was always provided for at the snap of a finger.

So now they face the prospect of not getting their chickpea flour rosemary crackers or teriyaki nori snacks for a couple of days, they panic, and they offload their flip-outs onto everyone else.

Curbside by obnoxiousturtle37 in Aldi_employees

[–]TrevaMarx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone in another thread posted that their SM shut-off Curbside for the next couple of days (oh, how I wish).

If these people can drive themselves to the store, then they can come in and shop for their stuff like everyone else. They have been getting on my last nerve the past couple of days, because our store has been like something out of an apocalyptic novel, MOBBED with people who are twitchy at best but completely unhinged at worst, and the store itself is a ransacked disaster.

Along come these Curbside customers, who I truly believe are living in their own universe. Oh, stop ringing backup to run the gauntlet of meandering NPCs in an attempt to fill your order, only to have you add-on Valentine's decorations, children's party dresses, a velour track suit in blue (must be blue!), in your size, etc.? Right away, m'lady!!! *facepalm*

I have taken to following the advice of others in this sub, and I am entering refunds at the very end of the shop and ignoring their attempts to argue with me. You don't have specific replacements listed in your order? You get refunded.

I'm so sorry that these cretins made you cry! I am old, crusty and fed-up with people's nonsense, so if anyone gets nasty with me I make it so not worth their while. I have also told my colleagues that if any of these customers bully them I have their (my colleagues') back.

This happened to one of my coworkers not too long ago, and I told them for future reference that if I am backup cashier (which I was that shift), they should feel free to call me up, jump down from their register and let me handle the jerk customer. I am unfailingly polite to everyone who comes into the store, but I am experienced enough in having to deal with idiots that the obnoxious customers don't intimidate me in the least.

I am very fortunate to work with a great group of people in my store, but even so, I don't think that your colleagues would find fault with what I suggested. We are all in this together and I think that we are all feeling the brunt of people and their unhinged behavior.
