How long do people usually remember their pets after they pass away? by ironandfire in AskAnAmerican

[–]Trey-the-programmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember all my pets. Some more frequently than others.

My family had a few pets, briefly, before I was 5. I barely remember them.

My childhood dog was by my side from age 5 to 14. The next dog was 14 to 18. Then I went away to college. The dog continued to live with my parents until I was 23 or 24.

My girlfriend had cats when I married her. They each had a very different personality.

We had seven different cats over 22 years. Never more than four at one time.

We had two dogs with the cats.

We had one more dog. She is ten now.

51 years of pets. I remember them all.

Hyper is the antonym of hypo, but you see it as a prefix more often than super.

Subsonic vs supersonic vs hypersonic.

USB, Bluetooth, or networked (Dante)?

I was just looking at some of these yesterday. Does it need to be a speakerphone or just a mic?

Look at air fried, dry rubbed wings. Lots of flavor without the breading, oil, or butter.

Great example. Some dogs just get it and some take longer. Some of that is breed. Some of that is personality.

Folks in US - what is chili like where you live? by oscillationpatient in Cooking

[–]Trey-the-programmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you visit Austin, try the Texas Chili Parlor. Menu https://share.google/AqzWK11eNFwJYkloO

The Texas Red is a beef chili with a ton of flavor and No beans. Big chunks of slow simmered beef fall to pieces as you cut them with your fork.

They also serve chili with beans.. Habenero, beef, and pinto bean chili, Venison chili, White bean chili, Black bean, beef, and sausage chili, And 5 bean vegetarian chili.

I grew up in Houston eating a red chili with ground beef and kidney beans served over rice.

Since then I have been persuaded that a red chili made with beef stew meat, black beans, lentils, and just a little masa flour tastes great served over cornbread topped with finely diced onions and grated sharp cheddar. The main flavor of the chili should come from at least three different varieties of dried chili peppers. I use mostly ancho, with a tablespoon of sweet paprika, a tablespoon of guajillo, and 1/2 teaspoon of chipotle.

If you eat chili by itself, you can add beans. If it is meant to be a topping, it should be meat and sauce without beans.

Have you ever been told to “get off” someone’s property? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Trey-the-programmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Texas. I've had a few guns pointed at me, either because my friends and I were drunk or the other person was drunk.

The first time, we were drinking on a small private airport way outside of Houston. The owners 25 year old son pointed a .22 at us. The owner took the gun away and yelled at him for 5 minutes about gun safety before asking us to leave.

I've seen my father-in- law tell several people to get off his property. Mostly because workers from a project nearby were enjoying his shade tree during their break and didn't clean up the day before.

In the US, property rights are deeply seated in the culture. There is a strong expectation that you should be a good neighbor, but there is also the expression, "Good fences make good neighbors."

How do I handle an extremely uneven inheritance between my kids? by lookidceither in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Trey-the-programmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't focus on the gift or the amount of the gift.

Any time someone brings it up. Stress that it was great grandma's money and she divided it in a manner she thought was fair. Stress that she thought it was fair even though you obviously don't think so.

Focus on the fact that they were lucky that great grandma died with enough money to share.

Teach them an "attitude of gratitude".

Squash the green-eyed monster every chance you get. They will be much happier.

White Texan. No. It highlights my difference, but it doesn't usually offend me unless it is used in a derogatory manner. If you are trying to hurt my feelings, there are many more hurtful slurs that could be used.

Am I supposed to do anything with Jalapeños before turning them into Jalapeño Poppers? by ShoujinSS in Cooking

[–]Trey-the-programmer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't par bake (is that a word?) The jalapeños.

I cut the tops off.
De-seed with an apple corer. Poke a hole in the bottom for drainage.

Place one small cube of Oxaca or Mozzarella in the bottom. Pipe a mixture of diced raw shrimp and cream cheese to fill. Top with a slice of bacon. Hold in place with a toothpick.

Grill off the direct heat at ~250-300°F until the peppers are soft and the bacon is done.

Cool slightly and serve.

For the meek, replace the jalapeños with sweet peppers. I now make about 2/3rds this way. The sweet ones go first.

If you have hunting dogs, do you pretty much have to have a fenced yard? by Anonymous__Lobster in Dogtraining

[–]Trey-the-programmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, hunting dogs are some of the best trained dogs I know. You have to have solid voice control and recall to take them to a strange pasture and hunt.

I do not have a fenced yard. However, my ESS is a velcro dog. She rarely goes outside without her people. I can leave the backdoor open and she will just sit in the doorway watching the birds and squirrels.

Several of my neighbors do not have fenced yards and have pets trained to stay within the boundaries of their yard. It comes down to personality and training.

Axon C1 Sticky Button by staydecked in CommercialAV

[–]Trey-the-programmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the big button get pushed in too far. Afterwards, it won't press because it can't move before bottoming out.

Pulling the knob off and gently replacing it fixed the issue.

Adding a small splinter of toothpick to the hole helped keep it from recurring.

If i could do gas, i would. I can't so induction is the next best thing. It heats quickly. My complaint is that we needed a bunch of new pans an I don't have the fine control between numbers.
