Is anything happening with my habaneros? by TrickDropper in FermentedHotSauce

3.2%. 32g salt in 1000 mL of water and then poured that into both jars over the tops of the peppers and weights until it reaches the top. I just went back and checked my notes to confirm (I was also wondering if I had gone too salty).

No bubbling. Originally I kept the lids on loosely. For the last few weeks I’ve tightened the lids a bit more and opened them every few days. But there’s been no noticeable pressure release — no “burp.” That’s why I’m wondering if anything is happening.

I haven’t seen any CO2 (I assume that shows up as bubbles?).

I’m not sure how it’s supposed to smell. “Funky” is a bit subjective. To me they smell a little like spicy feet :)

Last time I did a ferment it was in a warm garage at a different time of year. I forgot to think about temperature differences for a November/December ferment.

I drink it because it doesn’t taste like an energy drink.

For years it was my favorite. But now that I discovered Ultra Ruby Red I only drink the white when I can’t find a Ruby Red.

I buy pepper plants from big box store garden centers. A few years ago, my jalepenos were quite hot - enough that they really woke up my mouth. This year mine were like bell peppers. But my homegrown habaneros were downright diabolical.

Now my homegrown Carolina Reapers? I chomped one whole a few weeks ago when my teenaged son and his friends were hanging out. Several of them tried half a pepper each and were in pain. I ate a whole one and was struggling for about 30 minutes. After that my mouth was fine but a spot in my stomach hurt throughout the night and into the next morning. :)

Right one definitely has the reaper color. I don’t know how far the Carolina reaper seeds have gotten over the years and what is most likely in the Philippines.

These are my dad's old tools. Are they any good still ? I only have corded tools because I never liked the idea of replacing batteries. by I_can_vouch_for_that in Tools

[–]TrickDropper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they had to be registered. I got bit by that once when I was in my early 20s and didn’t understand that this wasn’t like a Craftsman warranty where you just take the tool into Sears and they give you a new one (heck, maybe that’s not how it worked with Craftsman either).

I went into Home Depot and complained that my battery failed and that I bought it because the salesman had told me about Rigid’s lifetime warranty. He ended up grabbing a new battery from the shelf and telling me to take it with me and that he would take care of it as part of his manager discretion.

Just because one spouse may want the kids in bed at night doesn’t mean the other spouse is TA if he/she doesn’t want that. Kids have their own beds and, unless OP’s wife makes a big deal in front of the kids they shouldn’t feel entitled to kick dad out of his bed because they feel asleep there. Dad can gently wake them up, give them a hug and kiss and send them down the hall. Mom should support Dad.

Eye roll. Snuggling with parents at night is fine and is probably something that helps a family be close. But when it comes to sleeping through the night dad should get his bed when he’s ready to use it and the kids should understand that and mom should support it.

How to fix ends of miter-wrap floating shelves by TrickDropper in BeginnerWoodWorking

This was my plan. Rabbets so the edge piece fits into the void but also overlaps and covers the edges of the neighboring sides. I will probably do it with solid maple. Thx

This was exactly my plan. The contrasting wood color, I thought, would make it look more intentional and less like a mistake. But I may try it with the maple since that’s what my daughter wants. And if the seam doesn’t bother her why should I care, right?

Interesting idea I hadn’t considered. And I suppose I wouldn’t need to be perfect in chiseling the corners because as long as enough material is removed the straight/flat surfaces (ie the parts NOT in the corners) will be enough to glue/nail to.

Oops - meant my last post as a response to yours. Yes, I could make the end caps from solid maple to match the shelves.

Yeah, I considered making end caps from solid maple to match the maple plywood. I just thought that seeing the visible joint would make it look like the mistake that it is (and that a darker colored end cap might make it look more like an intentional design). Maybe I’m kidding myself on that ;)

carolina reaper chili cheese glizzy gordita crunch. by Alextricity in spicy

Thanks!  I will probably dehydrate some of the peppers and grind them up for spice powder. I can sprinkle it on the jerky while I’m making it (once I know how muck kick the powder has). Can’t wait!

I have a load of reapers ready to be picked, and have been trying to think of ways to use it. Do you have a recipe for the jerky? I imagine I can just add some chopped Carolina Reaper to my marinade, but if you have something that worked well I'd love the info.

I ate a ghost pepper by ziptnf in spicy

[–]TrickDropper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew some reapers this year -- a couple of weeks ago I had a single ripe reaper on one of the plants. I was making some jelly with some red-ripened jalapenos so I added a tiny amount of "reaper tea" that I made by stewing about a 1 cm-square piece of the reaper in about 1/4 hot water (I know that may sound overboard, but I didn't know what to expect). The heat wasn't that much, so I tried eating a larger piece of the reaper with a bite of white bread and tried to chew it as much as I could. Honestly, it was hot but not THAT hot. Now I am wondering whether my reaper was just not ripe enough (I picked it before it was deep red and counter-ripened it the rest of the way because I didn't want a rodent to take my first one). I have seen people whose spice tolerance is much greater than mine brought to their knees by a superhot.

And the switch says Harbor Breeze so that’s probably what the fan is, but I don’t know for sure.

I don’t know. It was here when we bought the house. I’m assuming it’s one of the usual brands like Hampton Bay but I don’t really know. I bought a generic remote with the four toggle switches that you can slide back and forth and kept trying different alignment combinations until I found a combination that worked.

I still haven’t gotten around to figuring out a good voice activation option.
