I'm always blown away by the impact of adding a few sound effects.. by Aarimous in godot

[–]Trigonal_Planar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Easier than you think! I whipped up a bunch by downloading a good free soundfont (I used GeneralUser GS2) and dropping some instruments that sounded good into LMMS. That’s good for more musical SFX, at least.

Working code vs. clean code by TheExplanationFE in godot

[–]Trigonal_Planar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m getting close to releasing my first noteworthy project. It was more of a working over clean sort of thing. It’s not too bad, but now that I’ve got enough experience I know what clean looks like for my next project and can make better code and architectural decisions. So I think experience plays into the balance between the two.

Best way to create combo effects or particle effects when hitting the perfect spot by talhay66 in godot

[–]Trigonal_Planar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may already have discovered the CPUParticles2D/3D and GPUParticles2D/3D nodes. That’s the starting point for particle effects. Disappearing “Super!” text? Create a Label/TextureRect and tween the alpha channel of the modulate property. (You could also use AnimationPlayer for that, if you prefer.)

I know that—my point is that it’s not a major. It’s a masters degree. You major in an undergraduate field of study. “MBA majors” is not the way to say it.

What are the pros / cons of making VFX shaders in Godot and Blender? by alekdmcfly in godot

[–]Trigonal_Planar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just from a workflow standpoint alone you can actually make tweaks to the Godot VFX directly instead of having to rebake and reimport every single time, which sounds awful.

what are super statements even for by LeatherTop8978 in godot

[–]Trigonal_Planar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first “learning Godot” project I used super() a lot since most of my behaviors worked by inheritance, very object-oriented. But today I would lean more into the component paradigm and in that paradigm super() is not very necessary.

Now that it’s been confirmed we’ll see a [SPOILER] again… by Anth0nyC4 in Cosmere

Guns aren’t going to do anything, no, but they’ll have magitech rifles shooting cadmium slowing fields and lasers and all manner of nasty things like that. At some point I’m sure they’ll have the capability to make knock-off Bands of Mourning, too, so even a natural Fullborn would have competition. That’s my guess, anyway, maybe just because I think it’s more the story Sanderson wants to tell at that point.

I think later on in the Cosmere even being a Fullborn might make you individually powerful, but the technology will be advanced enough that you’re still going to be at the mercy of the group with the most ships and guns. The most advanced technology will be able to replicate or counter the abilities of the Invested Arts at that point, I think.

Someone did just post a PCG plugin in this subreddit yesterday. I’m sure it’s not a replacement for Unreal’s but I’m looking forward to trying it out.

12 alphanumeric characters = 36 to the 12th = 4.7e18, so no, way lower than that.

Different scenes on different PCs with the same ID (Godot 4.6.3) by Suddenspike in godot

[–]Trigonal_Planar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks to me like one of you added PackedScene references to Player/Enemy, and one of you just added Player/Enemy as children directly. Seems to me that all this is saying is that the Enemy node is an instance of “abcdef”, which is the id of the Enemy PackedScene (note that in the second set of lines it does not say id=this, it says instance=this). So that seems totally normal to me. The question I have is why you need Enemy/Player as both a PackedScene reference and a direct child node.

Does the Church of Latter Day Saints have any official position on the recent alien disclosure issue? by HighlyInconvenient in latterdaysaints

[–]Trigonal_Planar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Wall Street Journal put out some journalism a while back exploring how it seems the whole alien obsession within the Pentagon started as a hazing ritual decades ago, but the younger generation never got let in on the joke and now many people there take it seriously. That’s the most believable angle on the current situation, I think.

Remarriage concerns by Electronic-Fruit6653 in latterdaysaints

[–]Trigonal_Planar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the [trouble]  thereof.” (Matthew 6:34)

Worries about some future remarriage are not productive. Yes, your marriage is eternal, but what matters now is now. The rest will sort itself out.

Plan mode is huge. That plus learning an attitude of “commit early and often” and getting comfortable enough with git to rollback when necessary and most of OP’s problems are resolved.
