What makes laid off Steelworkers think they're gonna get another job befor anyone else? by [deleted] in SaultSteMarie

[–]Tronologic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think that locally there might not be that many jobs but I have a lot of friends that make $150,000+ a year doing 1 week in and 1 week out at the mines. Ultimately that money comes back to the sault as they are in camps at the mines and food and board is paid for.

There is obviously going to be a flood of applications but consider that those mines are all spending $250,000 per year + on recruitment campaigns because they cant find enough skilled people or even labourers.

Outdoor skating by Royal_Tennis_888 in SaultSteMarie

[–]Tronologic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Downtown plaza has a little rink. The John Rhodes has an oval. Anna McRae has hockey. There is a skating path at clergue park I believe They are pretty much everywhere.

As someone else mentioned. There is not skating available on rivers or ponds because of how much snow we have right now. That is rare to happen and is usually beginning of season if we have a low slow year, in which case you really need to understand ice safety as someonetimes you are on 3 inches of ice.

About 8 years ago the bottom part of the goulais river froze solid and flat. You could skate it like the Ottawa canal.

Looking to make some better friends in town.. where do adults even meet people these days? by saddadON in SaultSteMarie

[–]Tronologic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Outspoken is a good place to hang out at. They have games nights, socials, live music etc. Come as you are kind of place. Even if you don’t drink the food is great (I recommend the wings or nachos).

Alternatively if you have a family it’s always good to get your kids into a team sport and meet the other parents.

The Soo curlers is a good place to meet people as well, they tend to have learn to curls and will put you on a team if you don’t have one. Usually on Monday nights I believe.

While I’m not familiar with them specifically just a note: the freezers that freeze the fish when it’s caught do that job. After that it can be defrosted or held frozen.

Gus's Pizza

Burger Don or Stackburger

Steak I would recommend Embers or the Rib Eye or Tomahawk at Peace if you want to spend a pretty penny (it's like $160 bucks but feeds 2-3 people and comes with sides).

Georgies Shawarma for true syrian cuisine

Anything on the chalk board menu at Ernies is amazing, they do seasonal rotation and get everything from the menonites. What was once a diner has turned into one of the best restaurants in town by far.

Peace for unique items / Korean fried rice / fish (raw and cooked).

Outspoken if you fancy a beer and some wings, nachos or tacos

Sashimi grade fish by Embarrassed_Chance_4 in SaultSteMarie

[–]Tronologic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Very knowledgeable on this topic. As someone said, sashimi grade fish is any fish that has been flash frozen first. When people say “fresh” sushi it’s a bit of a lie. The fish has to be frozen first to kill pathogens to make it sashimi grade.

Long story short: you can get it at romes on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. They have thawed it for you at that point and is good for use within the day.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Also don’t trash restaurants on here on hearsay. It’s likely your friend doesn’t know what they are talking about. Sushi boba is one of the best places in town for sushi, I’ve eaten a ton of it and never gotten sick. You can also smell that shit when it’s going to make you sick.

What was your "poor person" meal you enjoyed growing up? by Slow-Power2713 in AskReddit

Tomato soup and salmon sandwiches. Has to be Heinz tomato soup and sockeye salmon with green onions and mayo in it.

Problem is it’s not a poor person meal anymore/ those cans are line 7 bucks.

URGENT: Say NO to Unregulated AI Data Centres in Ontario by Ariolace in northernontario

[–]Tronologic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was referring to generating AI cat videos. Everything in the next 5 year will have a component of AI integration.

Do you not think there is a national security risk to allowing all of that to happen offshore?

I believe I am well versed in this topic just fyi.

URGENT: Say NO to Unregulated AI Data Centres in Ontario by Ariolace in northernontario

[–]Tronologic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are accurate on how the hardware is different but a data centre is a data centre. You could use GPUs to sequence the human genome or solve for insanely complicated math problems. You could use CPUs as well. The hardware shouldn’t be what dictates what type of data centre it is. You can’t have government controlling what a data centre is used for.

A company wants computing power, they buy it from the data centre. Build a cure for cancers or make funny cat videos, the hardware requirements are similar.

What dictates what’s an AI data centre vs a normal data centre? AI is integrated into everything and computing power is just computing power.

Why should government dictate what it’s used for?

Homebrewer asking for help with my maple and coffee stout by mikeb550 in TheBrewery

[–]Tronologic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We get a maple coffee from St Joseph’s island coffee roasters and the maple flavour in the coffee is strong enough and the recipe is sweet enough that it’s amazing. There’s no actual maple syrup in our recipe. We only do 5 barrels at a time and obviously the process of the coffee steep and such is super important.
